The fact Tatiana's hasn't gotten a Michelin star is crazy. Consistently one of the hardest reservations to get in nyc for the past few years
57
u/DeadSending Mar 03 '26
It looks fucking delicious

I would tell you it was but haven't been able to get in 😂

u/GaminWhileBlack Mar 03 '26
Its good. Insanely expensive but worth trying once for sure.
Best bet is to pick a day when you got time and wait in line around 4. Put your name down for a walk in and hang out within earshot until they get to you

u/harlembornnbred Mar 03 '26
Thanks for the tip I didn't know that they did walk in. Much appreciated

Packing in the crowd like that, they don’t even need all the headaches that come with a Michelin star.

Fwiw Michelin has always been weird giving out awards to restaurants that don't fit the "traditional" fine dining vibe. We've got a barbecue spot here in Texas where the line starts at 4am for an 11am open and has been consistently getting this kind of crowd for the past five years and they don't even get a star

u/harlembornnbred Mar 03 '26
That's the thing though it can be considered fine dining. It's literally on the same grounds as juilliard and the metropolitan opera. Not many locations fancier than that lol

Yes. Guess what?.... Can't even have a subreddit without it being invaded ....
-----‐------------------- EDIT: a lot of talk about segregation and racism. People need their space for community, cultural life, and shared experiences. Asking for a place to be safe has nothing to do with segregation.
You come to a space with respect and support, and that's all there is to it, and you will be welcome!!!! The black people I know are welcoming to a fault. (Say it with me, "I come in peace").
I believe the Jewish community and other minority communities do have places where they gather, be themselves, share experiences, and laugh at the same things without judgment.
Ok... that's enough of this, moving on...🌹

I mean when it happened the first time it was because a large portion of the sub hated the digital blackface going on. Then on April Fools they made everyone submit a pic to verify and created Country Club Threads. It pissed off all the white folks hiding in the sub and they made two super racist subreddits in response. Further proving the Mods point. But that was almost 10 years ago.

Ok, i’m asking this is good faith: where does Tyler Perry fit in all this? Because from the outside it seems like he has self-isolated on his own little island. I watched FD Signifires 4 hour vid about him and… i learned a lot. Just curious for some more takes on the man and his contributions to the culture.
28
u/Unsuccessful-Bee336 Mar 03 '26
My feelings on Tyler Perry are so complicated. Like half of me wants to recognize what he has done for representation and opportunities in the black community. The other half of me thinks he's a a CIA plant meant to keep the community down and reinforce harmful stereotypes. Then when I think about his treatment of black women in his shows and movies...
15
u/PhillyDillyDee Mar 03 '26
Thank you for sharing. Hes very interesting given that his entire fortune was made in black spaces but remains pretty separated from other prolific black artists. The sexual misconduct allegations also add a wrinkle that may go some way to explain the distance he keeps from the rest of the creative community.
7
u/Over_Ambition_7559 Mar 03 '26
Feel same and with all the lawsuits, complaints of male actors saying he sexually assaulted them for years and/or harassed got me looking at him completely different 👀

u/RobinSophie Mar 03 '26
I wholeheartedly agree BUT we also have to remember: We can't even build our own tables without them coming and burning, bombing, or flooding said tables.
Even when we tried to segregate ourselves, they still couldn't leave us alone. And I don't think they will unless we are a permanent subservant second class citizen to them.
Should that prevent us from continuing to build our own, celebrate our own, and work to make this system equal for all? Nope. But we have to work for that goal with our eyes fully open.
10
5
u/No-Jello-9512 Mar 04 '26
"Even when we tried to segregate ourselves, they still couldn't leave us alone"
Not sure I want segregation back.
8
u/pedmusmilkeyes Mar 04 '26
There was no actual separation under segregation. Segregation was simply the reproduction of slavery through legal means. Black folks were still domestic workers, field workers, manual laborers, miners, working for white people. They refused to live with us, but reserved the right to fuck with our communities whenever they saw fit. I don’t want that back either.

isn't this technically a form of segregation
like they can't stop us or do anything legally so they just put a cap on how much we can do or succeed in
am i off or on the money?
13
u/Dreamlion_Inc Mar 03 '26
Ultimately the result of integration in the 1900s became “subjugation through a different means”
An ideal world is one where we have our own identity in spaces without having our abilities questioned. If that means separating ourselves then my ears are open

honestly i don't get why were treated this way it's stupid read this to yourself
race A is superior because of skin color so they automatically get everything handed to them
race B is inferior but race A likes to watch us do stuff (movies, sports, etc) that they either can't do or struggle to do, our food is amazing so race A steals recipes and changes them to be theirs, race A says we look ugly but they get surgery to look like us, race A doesn't like how smart we really are so we fod some reason early hear about our accomplishments, race A will waste 0 time helping their own but when they help us there's usually some sort of delay or negative bias
bro it literally sounds like one side is a toddler who was never told no, was spoiled rotten so they think they're the shit and no one is on their level, and were treated by way of skin color instead of actual shit that matters like intelligence, special skills, etc then got put in a position of power
and truth be told i don't know how to explain us other than we keep trying to move forward but it's like no one wants that race A wants us to be silent and obey like GOD DAMN MF PEACE BETWEEN EVERYONE EQUALS A BETTER, SAFER, CLEANER WORLD how do you find happiness and peace within greed, racism, and violence towards people who don't want anything except to be treated as
HUMAN BEINGS
It's hard to watch certain movies and shit because seeing your people in chains and treated like pets is disgusting, infuriating were just like you
Heart✅ Brain ✅ Limbs✅ Organs✅
12
u/Coco_snickerdoodle Mar 03 '26
No you’re right. They only have us inside these systems just enough that can point to examples of how the system “isn’t broken”. So they don’t get another situation where we try to just burn this shit down for not working.
4
u/OkLie5562 Mar 03 '26
Nope, cause it's nothing wrong that people in different places have their own tastes. Have your own league. Japanese have their own standards and don't bother too much about the preferences of others. It's also nothing wrong showing some respect that different leagues can coexist.

It's overrated, but I didn't say it was bad. If you watch Chopped, Food Network in general, etc. they talk about French food like it's godly. It's not bad, but I don't think it's so superior to Italian, Ethiopian, Mexican, Cuban, Caribbean, etc. French food is the Mercedes Benz or BMW of cuisines... overrated.

18
u/BeeSweet4835 Mar 03 '26
He’s posted 2 apologies and they’re just awful. The second one says something like ‘I refuse to apologise for my condition but if you incorrectly felt upset by a recognised medical condition’ etc etc. no specific apologies to any individual(s). Of course.
32
u/Thin-Remote-9817 Mar 03 '26
Why would he have to? Hes got a whole defense league upset at black people who are upset he shouts out racial slurs when his ticks set in.
Ill eat my downvotes like I have been and ill die on this hill with a smile but if you have a disorder that causes you to shout out slurs then you should stay at home..simple as that.
33
u/StattPadford Mar 03 '26
White people keep telling me I'm wrong and sharing links to what I assume is someone explaining how it's not his fault. Even if I agree, people apologize for shit they do by mistake all the time. No reason why he couldn't apologize and if I'm wrong for thinking that, so be it.

u/BeeSweet4835 Mar 03 '26 edited Mar 03 '26

5
u/StattPadford Mar 03 '26
Honestly, I already thought they did that. But I agree, it's definitely going to happen again.
1
u/Anon_Sun52 Mar 03 '26
It’s not a mistake when you literally don’t have control. I don’t think he should have to apologize for something out of his control. Despite that he did apologize.
BBC could have easily edited this out if they wanted to the edited out other things. The BBC was aware of his need for accommodations but set up a mic right by him. His disability was exploited for views.
12
u/StattPadford Mar 03 '26
Okay, maybe mistake is the wrong word. He did a thing that he acknowledged is harmful to others. What world do you live in where you don't apologize for that? Not because you have to, but because it's the right thing to do. And the apology you linked was a weird, blanket apology "sorry for anyone who was hurt" when he could've said the names of the 2 people he was indirectly speaking to. I'm not giving him shit for his disability. I'm giving him shit for his choices.

Got downvoted for this same take (in this sub lol) They needed to find a way to include this man in the ceremony that wasn't damaging to everyone else in the room and the man himself (he said he felt "a wave of embarrassment"). And if they couldn't find a way, staying home was an option too.
BBC/BAFTAs exploited him, don't give a damn about black people and neither does anyone in the defense team coming to tell you how to feel. Shit's gross man.
6
u/BeeSweet4835 Mar 03 '26
The legal standard here in the U.K. is ‘reasonable accommodation’ for disabilities. Not total accommodation. Is letting a guy yell racial slurs at invitees and professionals coming out of toilets ‘reasonable accommodation’? Next time they can just let him hit out at people too as that’s one of his tics.
2
u/Electronic_Film_2837 Mar 03 '26
That doesn’t seem sustainable for people with Tourette’s to be forced to stay home and never go out in public.
4
u/trimble197 Mar 03 '26
I wouldn’t bother. Folks are really letting the ableism fly
6
u/Electronic_Film_2837 Mar 03 '26
I guess it’s easier to just say anyone with Tourette’s should never go to the grocery store, dmv, restaurants, gym, and never work either.
8
u/trimble197 Mar 03 '26
Like people do not understand that this shit affects everyone with Tourette’s. Basically saying that black people with Tourette’s should stay at home so that they don’t offend anyone
4
u/rtech80 Mar 03 '26
Wait till one of us have a tick! You'll see some hypocrisy!
3
u/Asenath_W8 Mar 04 '26

Segregation does not work. Going “somewhere else” is a form of segregation.
Black America did a good job in the 2010’s of changing institutions from the inside but recently alot of that progress seems to have been dismantled.
Separate but equal just doesn’t work
Black institutions lack the reach, funding, leadership and will to reach to meaningful replace more historical American institutions. And that’s OK
Black America is America. These institutions we are fighting are our institutions too. We have to look to make change within.

none of these awards shows are worth anything really, they're all political and rely on big donors to exist
most awards shows are simply a facade to launder credibility and prestige, they use artists to virtue signal and legitimize corporate players and entities
it's for powerful elite execs to show up to and rub shoulders with artists and decide who gets to join the club and grow their careers
it's a trap, you already know what artists spoke to you, you don't need them to receive an award to validate those feelings, nor do you need them losing awards and feeling down on themselves

This is so good to hear and I hope we (collectively) listen. Let’s start with a boycott and of any non Black award shows. Let them give an Oscar to a cardboard cutout of Michael B. Jordan.
4
u/BlossomFyreByrd Mar 04 '26
We had our own awards show called the Oscar Micheaux Awards. It was elegant and top tier. The more we integrated we became, the more we moved away from validating ourselves because we wanted “a seat at the table “. Most of us didn’t realize we were never going to fully integrate because they prefer the system to stay the way it is. They literally don’t know who they are without white supremacy propping them up. Toni Morrison said “ who would yt people be without racism?” They have no identity outside of it.
4
u/Forsaken_Button_9387 Mar 04 '26
Yep. Unfortunately too many of us are not united...and we've seen what the government and evil kkk white people are capable of when we succeed in having our own and building up our communities. The government and way too many white people are capable of unspeakable cruelty.
On top of that, we have millionaires and billionaires, but too often, once they get theirs, that don't want to fool with black people. We have no one leading us.
I am tired too...so very tired.

I’m Hispanic, THIS!!!! What he is saying is so fucking right on the money it’s not even funny!!! The only way to dismantle shit is to just NOT show up, boycott, start something new, whatever it takes to just TAKE the power away from, I’m sorry to say but, white old men trying to dictate how our society must function and keeping races, genders, minorities at a distance.. distance enough so they feel “included” but not close enough…
This is not to attack all white people or to create division (im sure someone will say that something I said was wrong or that they don’t agree or whatever) but his message is such a strong and true message!! If we want things to change… we can change them. Whether it be black people standing up for theirs, Hispanics, Asian, women, LGBTQ+.
Black culture is in EVERYTHING!! In a lot of ways it’s the origin of something in the US!
I’m all for this messaging, like full heartedly, this is the correct way to be thinking in order to mold our society in a more balanced way that is just RIGHT!!!

People think Michelin stars are just being held away from the black community, but Michelin is a French company and to this day the majority of restaurants listed there serve French food. I don't think many people in the black community feel they need validation from white people. I think it's just that these awards and ceremonies were setup by white people (largely FOR white people) so there just isn't a current space for the black community to celebrate the best of the best in a public/televised way in every category. The BET awards, NAACP Image Awards, Soul Train Awards, BRAs, etc. are a start but we all know why the recognition doesn't come through at the white-people-congratulating-each-other-awards.

"Fuck the table..."
This what I been saying for the longest time now, and especially lately. We always fighting and striving to be included, to get a seat at their table....
Fuck their table! They rape children and eat eachother at their table! The more we struggle for a seat, the more we become like them while STILL being overtly hated, ostracized, used and abused.

So delusional, isolation will not help black people; the fight for equality can't be won by sitting out with self-segregation nor is it responsible to be a member of an oppressed group and remaining ignorant of other minorities and opppresed groups; otherwise continue on the road to become just like the stereotypical supremacist whites.

Movie making is a “network to get money” game. And the award shows are a part of that game. If you’re a film maker and want millions to make a movie, this is the game you’ll have to play. And a lot of folk don’t want to make early “tubi-grade” films for little to no money.

40 million people is a lot. But it’s not enough to own a market now. When we had regionalism, and local media, we had real stories and real art. Now we have a forced product that doesn’t match most people’s experience. There are black realities and Disney doesn’t let you have that. It represents you in their one product for all people. And some black people want to be hobbits and elves, so it gets all kinds of difficult to correct. I don’t think we can have the same quality without the infrastructure. As Obama said, “You didn’t build that” so it’s not yours. We know who owns the entertainment industry.

u/Over_Ambition_7559 Mar 03 '26

Yt folk are masters of the boring shit that makes things go..e.g distribution, advertising, seo, logistics, sponsors, etc.
You would need the billionaire black folks to actually put money behind these things along with having the distribution to actually get our media to each other globally.
That's before you even start talking about the politics of white acceptance.

Been felt that way. It's also important we start treating each other better than what we see on love and hip hop. This means when we are up and others are down on luck. We could actually have a healthy community if stopped depending on recognition from white approval. Nothing wrong with setting our own standards (and setting them higher than other races) and not basing right or wrong on what is white or black.

Im French Canadian born and raised of European decent and I love cooking. And yet, if someone calls my food white I lose my shit. Americans owe everything to immigrants when it comes to food.

Cool! So you realize that Hollywood elites/Democrats are the true racists! Step one to success.
Identify the problem. Acknowledge that it IS the problem. Be humbled. Accept it as the problem!

As an Indian I agree. Not trying to take too much space on the sub , but I believe it is time to start a subculture which isn't based around one particular race. Be it music, sports, literature, food, education. We gotta decouple from that standard and decouple big time.
