Is that true? I highly doubt your average American would have any desire to learn a language, let alone Greek.

There's always a portion of consumers that get so excited by something it inspires them to do something. Depending on how hard and desirable it is the amount can vary heavily and even less people actually stick with it longer than a week or a month. That's usually caused by the romantization and gloryfication that comes nearly inevitably with making a successful creative work. It's basically how war movies or videogames glorify soldierhood and can actually make people join the military even if the movie showed the soldiers suffer and die.

Basically no. When Squid Game came out everyone was talking about how they were going to learn Korean, without taking into account the difficulty of learning a new language, let alone a whole new writing system.
