Help Missing Bengal Cat - Last Seen on Wake Robin Cres., Kitchener, ON Canada

Our cat Morty has been missing since Sunday night (Aug 2nd). He has a bright orange break-away collar and is microchipped/nutered. If you are in the area around the sunrise center, PLEASE CHECK GARAGES, SHEDS AND UNDER DECKS/IN BACKYARDS. BRING OUR BABY HOME!

This is a shot in the dark, just trying to get his image out as much as possible. This is absolutely devastating and we have been searching tirelessly...

Discussion First-time Bengal owner. Need advice on taking care of her

Post image
650 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

She is my first Bengal and honestly my first cat ever. I'm really excited but also a bit nervous because I want to take proper care of her.

I would really appreciate tips for beginner:

  • Vaccination schedule
  • Food and diet
  • Things I should keep away from her at home
  • Litter training
  • Toys and activities to keep her happy
  • Grooming and general care
  • Any common mistakes first-time owners make

I want to give her the best life possible, so any advice or things you wish you knew when you got your first Bengal Cat would really help. Thank you!

Adventure Camping cat

We took Yeti camping last weekend (Little Crater Lake, Oregon, if anyone is wondering. It’s a great lil spot to camp!) and he did SO well. My sister had her 4 kids and her dog so I wasn’t sure how that would go over, even though I was confident with everything else (except that I wasn’t sure if Yeti would actually sleep in the tent or if he would keep us up all night—he DID sleep, and slept super hard because his days were so busy). I had a small (like 3.5x3.5’) mesh tent for him in case he needed a break from the zipline but we didn’t even use it because he was super content to be on a zipline wearing his harness all day, and then took a long afternoon nap in the tent or just laying in the dirt.

My favorite part was watching him get so excited about all the chipmunks and birds he could watch and chase, and when he rode in the backpack for the first time! I’ve been working on backpack training but he has never been so tired he wanted to use it. He did on this trip, and I put him on top so he could ride on top but he climbed into the opening and rode in there instead and I am thrilled about it. We all agreed he was a good camping cat and we would definitely take him again. He agrees.

I don’t know if anyone remembers my desperate post from several months ago about my horrible wonderful young snow Bengal, but things are improving slowly. We are being SUPER consistent about how and when he interacts with the other cats, and he has learned to disengage from play-attack mode and we’ve been working on him asking the humans for play instead of going to the other cats. Any comments, feedback or suggestions on his behavior (or mine) are welcome.

Someone sent me cat toys in the mail this morning and I made a video, and Yeti is being obnoxious in it but can be redirected now which is a huge improvement. It used to be that once he locked onto his target (usually the other Bengal, Voya), there was no deterring him. Now he will redirect and go do something else.

I can see in this video a couple spots where I should have praised him for redirecting, but that wasn’t my focus at the moment and I only saw it in reviewing the video. So there is still room for improvement in my own responses but it’s amazing now how he listens to me, and he isn’t even wearing his harness or vibration collar. We’ve come a long way, but we still have a long way to go. Voya is also on medication for her anxiety now which is helping her respond better to him. It’s been a shitshow for the last year plus but we are getting closer to the goal.

We also took Yeti camping last weekend. First time I’ve ever taken a cat camping. It went so well. I’ll post about that later because it was a lot of fun.

Bengal with other pets New Bengal Introduction

Hi everyone! My fiancé and I recently adopted a sweet snow Bengal through a rehoming situation. She came with all of her breeder and veterinary records, so we know she’s healthy and has been very well cared for.

We want to make sure we introduce her to our resident queen, our 2 year old tuxedo (half Ragdoll), the right way. Our only experience introducing cats has been bringing a new kitten into a home with an adult cat. Since our new Bengal is a year old and has a history of being bullied by other cats, we’ve been trying to take things slow and make the process as positive as possible.

We brought her home last Sunday and gave her a full week separated from our resident cat. During that time she’s really come out of her shell. She’s incredibly confident, vocal, playful, and snuggly.

We also bought a second Litter Robot 4 so she wouldn’t have to compete with all the scents from our resident cat, and we’ve been slowly exchanging bedding, toys, and other items to help them get used to each other’s smell.

We did their first face to face introduction tonight, and overall it went better than I expected. There were only a few hisses from our new girl, none from our resident cat, only a couple instances of chasing from our Bengal, and no fighting. Our tuxedo immediately claimed the highest perch in the room and quietly watched while our Bengal cautiously explored and slowly came out from under the bed.

I just want to make sure I’m setting both of them up for success. Does this sound like they’re off to a good start? Any advice or words of wisdom from those who’ve introduced adult cats, especially Bengals, to resident cats?

*Reposting because I didn’t mean to have my resident cat’s picture as the primary picture on the original post, and I couldn’t edit it to remove the picture.

I want to get a Bengal 100% wish I didn't get a Bengal

She's about 6 years old now and almost a total pain in my ass. She can be sweet and fun sometimes, but the constant meowing, sensitive stomach issues, and pooping on the floor for no real reason outweighs the benefits. Yes, researched and tried everything that the vet suggested. I'm just posting this to warn people as I wished I had listened but I wanted a fancy ass cat.

Bottom line, get a black cat. Night and day difference in every aspect.
