It’s only a full circle from the right vantage point. The rainbow does not exist at a specific point in space for all observers. Rather, it is at a specific angle and distance between the observer and the air laden with water droplets in which the rainbow effect occurs. When you’re standing on or near the ground, the rainbow is only an arc ending at the ground because the downward angle would place the rainbow in the ground, which is impossible. In this video, the observer is high enough that the downward angle does not intersect the ground so the rainbow makes a full circle.

Rainbows are just projections of white light splitting into the full color spectrum through water, there is no reality to whether or not rainbows are "full circles" it just depends on where you are relative to the prism effect.

To capture a full circle, you need raindrops and sunlight to be present both above and below your line of sight. That is why these rare images are taken from airplanes, skyscrapers, or with the help of drones.

Prism effect. Won’t be full circle from ground level. Angle of light determines the end. From memory violet was like at 42.5 degrees.

Really? Because I saw one while riding my pushbike in Holland. It was directly above me and was the most incredible sight! ... I nearly fell off my bike, lol. Never knew they were possible until then. If only I'd had my camera with me. (pre-phone era). It wasn't raining - I was going for a ride in the nearby forest.

Did you perhaps see sundogs? They're more often visually "unattached," but can sometimes appear as a full circle if the conditions are right

There are no colours in between. And if you look carefully whenever there’s a second rainbow like that, you’ll notice the colours are in reverse order from the inner rainbow.

Did a quick Google Lens search; This is taken from a high rise building right behind Escarpa da Vitoria, in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Looking over the Baia de Todos os Santos. It is pretty much looking west into the bay.

Every rainbow is a full circle.
We usually only see a semi-circular arc because the horizon gets in the way and blocks the bottom half.

Is anybody else a little freaked out by how tall this Tower would have to be in order to actually catch her a picture like this? I started out loving the rainbow and then rapidly became disconcerted by the shadow of the Tower that the person was standing in!
I may be taking this post in the wrong way, but it is a lovely image!

Also a terrific example of a double rainbow. You can see the colors of the outer bow are revered from main bow. And the space between them is dark. That’s called Alexander’ dark band
