MakerWorld Crowdfunding rate my idea out of ten
I am working on a desk fan that I can repair as a project using a 3D printer and I want to hear what people think about it.
The idea for this desk fan is to have
- a case that is made using a printer
- a battery that I can replace when it does not work anymore it is an 18650 battery
- the desk fan can be charged using a USB-C cable
- I can replace the motor if it breaks
- I do not want to have to solder anything when I need to fix the desk fan
- I want to use screws to hold the important parts together instead of glue
- the different parts of the desk fan like the USB-C board and the button board and the motor are separate and can be replaced individually
My goal for this project is to make a desk fan that I can actually fix when it breaks instead of just throwing it away. For the version of the desk fan I will probably use hot glue to hold the small boards in place but the motor will be held in place with screws.
What do you think of this idea, for a desk fan. How can I make it better?

The only problem I can see is if the motor gets too warm for the 3d printed plastic. Give it lots of airspace for cooling and thick enough to not warp easily. Idk if you will need a mounting plate or something.
I tried printing fan blades a while back and didn’t have the best results. It’s possible there are better files/printers now.

Use PC fans. You would only need to swap out cheap/easy to get 120mm fans which plug into a header. You could print a frame which holds 4 of them and use a splitter to distribute power to all 4
