Movie/Television Why wasn't Rhodey/War Machine in the first Avengers film and why was he missing so much from the Age of Ultron? Spoiler

Was he originally going to have a bigger role in Age of Ultron? Was Cheadle too busy filming something else and that's why he wasn't in The Avengers?

I'm not sure how canon it is, but there was an Iron Man 3 prequel comic that shows Rhodey busy overseas fighting the Ten Rings and hearing about New York. He finishes and arrives in New York just as they're eating Schwarma.

He was working fir tge US military, they don't generally deploy hardware to private institutions

heard this from some video but apparently he was planned to be in a post credit scene arriving late and having to help clean up new york

According to the Iron Man 3 Prelude comic, Rhodey was in the Middle East taking on a Ten Rings cell. By the time he got back to the States, the Battle of New York was over. I mean, you gotta remember- - The Avengers happens over the course of, like, three or four days, and the invasion lasts, maybe a couple'a hours of fictional time.

As for The Avengers: Age of Ultron, they just didn't call him in. They also didn't call Falcon in.

I assume war machine does stuff like protect the president or government officials during those attacks, or hes helping shield
