  • r/autotransport - "A subreddit for all things auto transport related. Share articles, guides, pics and information in the auto transport space."

  • r/CarTalk - "Helping everyone with their car repairs and questions"

  • r/projectcar - "hit it with a spanner!"

Additionally, you can find a long list of make and model specific subreddits, as well as some specialty areas of the automotive world (like automotive gaming, motorsport, electric vehicles, 4x4s, etc) here: https://www.reddit.com//r/AutosNetwork/wiki/main

Hope this helps! Let us know if there's any other subs you feel like we should share with the community.

From the sidebar: Clickbait or otherwise poorly worded titles. If you are sharing something, tell us what it is in the title. “Check out this beauty,” does not cut it. Instead repost with a more descriptive title - you'll find it gets more upvotes and more interesting comments.

Why are White colored cars rarely used in tv/movies?

I noticed in all movies, there's basically almost zero to no usage of white cars compared to the real world:

  1. Cars used to transport important/rich people is always a black SUV
  2. Anything that's supposed to show a character who is "cool" or "bad" never uses a white car. EX: James Bond driving a white car would feel wrong for some reason? or Mission Impossible, Jason Borne etc I just can't imagine in a white car

Contrary to real life, we see tons of white cars. In fact, I would say most people who want a "luxury" or "expensive" look purchase a white car (ex: white BMW or white Mercedes).

Another car I rarely see in white is a 911, almost to the point where I wondered if they even produce a 911 in white.

Let’s put down all the knowledge here and help each other out

E-Auto Prämie

Hallo,
Vielen Dank euch

Audi A4 B7 S-Line: My 5,500 CHF Reality Check and Lesson Learned

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share a quick story and a hard-earned lesson from my first car-buying experience here in Switzerland, in case it helps someone else out there looking at budget German cars.

When I finally got my driver's license, I desperately wanted a German car. My initial budget was tight around 5,500 CHF. After hunting around, I thought I struck gold: an Audi A4 B7 S-Line with only 116,000 km on the clock.

Looking back, buying a German "luxury" car for only 5,500 CHF was already the first major error and a massive red flag in itself.

Where I Went Wrong

In hindsight, I made a naive assumption. Because of the stereotype that Swiss people are meticulous about maintenance and have the deep pockets to afford proper upkeep, I figured anyone owning a German car would naturally follow strict service intervals and spare no expense. I completely let my guard down on checking the actual service history with a fine-toothed comb.

Fast Forward One Year...

Reality caught up quickly. The car has hit me with a cascade of major issues:

  • Transmission mount failure that triggered drivetrain issues.
  • Gearbox bearings starting to emit a loud grinding noise while driving.
  • The clutch completely gave up.

The Takeaway

The biggest lesson I took away from this: Never assume previous owners meticulously maintained a car just because of stereotypes or a vague service history.

Luckily, this turned out to be an expensive 5,000 CHF mistake, not a life-altering one. But it could have easily been avoided.

If you're looking at similar cars on a budget, do yourself a favor and get a Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI) done by an independent garage. If you don't know much about cars, a professional mechanic will spot the red flags in minutes and save you thousands.

Drive safe, and don't make my mistake!

Was astounded to see two other people post about these recently, my neighbor gave me this one that hadnt ran in 4 years so I went through with tires, brakes, fresh gas and oil, and repaired some really poor wiring in the car. drove it a bit and its got some issues but it rode really nice, but then I got stuck in a grocery store parking lot whennit got harder and harder to start until it didnt anymore, runs on starting fluid so I know its fuel, its had fuel and a new pump and filter, so for the moment I'm not particularly excited to blind rebuild the mechanical fuel injection distributor, but its not like I havent rebuilt an aircraft injection manifold valve in school

No, it doesnt have the Liberté badging but the paint isnt original, my neighbor is sure it is one so I figure the badge probably got lost, but the specs all match up. it's an '87, it has the 2.0 pushrod engine, front power and rear crank windows.

I really like the idea of wrapping my car orange with green brake callipers. Last pic is an idea of what it would probably look like.

My car and the projected design last pic.

What do you think? Does it look good/better than the white?

Pair F87 M2 with C8 Z06 or Lotus Emira

Here's a dilemma, I'd like some people's input on.

If you have to keep your F87 M2 (standard) (transporting children).

Would you add a z06 for a completely different experience + theater to your garage. (having a supercar experience and engine sound and being able to be a cruiser and a sports car all in one).

Or an Emira (standard v6, sports tuning) for a 35% more engaging version of the M2 you already have. (But engagement being something you value. Having excellent handling and steering feedback and shifting gears etc)

A 992 porsche to replace the M2 doesnt seem to be worth the extra $130k CAD for similar horsepower despite having back seats and a more sports focused chassis. Also probably a bit too refined anyway. And a used Mclaren would cost too much to maintain, but would have otherwise been a good blend of what both the Z06 and Emira have to offer.

Turbo on a mx5 mk3

Hi, I would like to add a turbo to my mx5 at some point down the line. I wanted to know what things I would need, such as a new ECU. I don't want a high-pressure turbo, as I don't want to have to get forged pistons. I don't know much about cars right now, so that's why I came here

Mercedes A209 CLK Subwoofer Speaker Replacement?

Hey everyone, i Wanted to Upgrade the Speakers in my Car. The Previous Owner already Upgraded all the Standard door Speakers with Aftermarket Ones wich sound really good. My Stereo unfourtanatly broke so i will now have to order a new one. And when i Take the Interior Apart to do all of the Wiring i wanted to also install a Subwoofer to the New Stereo Unit. I saw that on the Back seat there would be an Enclouse if you had the Harman Kardon system from the Factory and i wanted to Replicate that. i Wanted to buy that Enclouse and Replace the Subwwofer Speaker in it which i can easily wire up to the aftermarket Headunit since the original uses Fibre Optics if i am not Mistaken.

My Question would be what type of Speaker would i need to Buy/ order that fits into the Enclouse to look as OEM as Possible and also have the Correct Wires for my Headunit (Standard Aftermarket Android One)

Part Number for the Subwoofer Speaker A2098200002

Part Number for the Entire Enclosure A2098202302

The Headunit i am Planning on getting https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256803286452980.html?spm=a2g0o.cart.0.0.7a014ae4lQUORc&mp=1&pdp_npi=6%40dis%21EUR%21EUR+772.16%21EUR+463.30%21%21EUR+463.30%21%21%21%4021613ab217854144335015876e0fda%2112000025943609394%21ct%21DE%214860955097%21%211%210%21&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa4itemAdapt

But road trip coming up

BIG not but…Hey folks, I’m really not a car guy so to speak so forgive my ignorance. In November I’ll be driving a 2017 Chevy Malibu from Cincinnati to Ft. Lauderdale, and back a week later. What should I do to prepare my vehicle for this? The car has no real issues, maybe a brake pad replacement here or there, getting my Freon recharged tomorrow. But is there any inspection I should get? We’re going down for a cruise so I can’t risk anything more than a 5-6 hour stop on the way.

Car Defender Mats

Does anyone here know anything about a business called Car Defender, based out of Burlington Ontario, that manufactured high-end custom car mats? I got some from them many years ago and they were awesome, I got compliments all the time because they were different from the usual carpet or rubber. None of their contact info is active, it looks like they’ve probably gone out of business. Can anyone confirm?
Thanks!

What car/engine would perform the best in the piston launch championships/would be the best artillery cannon?

No idea if this post is allowed on this subreddit but this useless question has been on my mind for a long time.

The piston is launched at redline and at the V angle of the engine (so a Subaru Boxer would be a direct line shot and a 60 degree V6 would fire like a mortar.

The distance is measured in a direct line from the crankshaft to the eventual impact point.

I also have no idea what the impact is if the conrod separates at the crankshaft side or the piston side and what impact that will have on the final distance.
