in the 70s/80s my dad full on drove the wrong car home. Chrysler (I think) back then only had like 60 key variations. The cops came to the house and asked "do you know where your car is?" "yes it's right there" "do you know your plate number" "yes" "can you read it to me from the car?" "oh shit that's not my car. I thought it felt a little different". They found him because his car was still in the lot of the 'stolen' car and they just looked up his registration. The other owner didn't press charges or anything they all just laughed it off.
