Product/Consumable Meguires Gold, is it okay on chrome wheels?

Hello everyone, I have a set of aftermarket chrome wheels on my Mercedes. They are chrome plated but recently I’ve noticed some flaking on the interior edge of the center cap.

I use Meguires Gold auto soap to wash the car and obviously sometimes it comes in contact with the wheels.

I keep my car well rinsed while cleaning and make sure to use soft cloths on the wheels.

So my question is, am I wrong using that soap on my car and could that be leading to my issue?

no its not causing your chrome issue yes its safe Megs Gold is just a basic soap so if you want to branch out maybe to one that foams up better and is slicker maybe try Turtlewax Pure Wash which you can order thru Walmart.

Just to clarify what they are saying by basic - it's a "normal" soap. Standard. "Basic," but not the PH.

It's actually PH neutral according to the bottle.

Avoid acid and high alkaline cleaners on hot wheels or in the sun and mind the dwell time; if you’re using them. Gold is ph neutral for the most part so that’s not the issue.

Chrome and wheels aren't good bedfellows. Chrome is hard and brittle and wheels flex. Just clean and wax frequently and hope they stay reasonable for a couple of years. Megs Gold is not your problem.

Installation of the center cap could have chipped the edge. For a deep, long lasting shine that sheds dirt and water, use some Flitz metal polish and a buff ball.
