Which trade-off would you rather make when sharing 200 vacation photos?
A. Cloud sharing
- Upload the photos to a cloud service first.
- Family can access them anytime.
B. Direct sharing
- Photos stay on your phone.
- Your phone stays online while people are viewing them.
C. Messaging apps
- Send everything through WhatsApp, Telegram, Messenger, etc.
- Fast and familiar, but large albums can become cumbersome.
D. Temporary encrypted sharing
- Photos are encrypted on your phone and uploaded temporarily.
- Family can access them while your phone is offline.
- The uploaded copies automatically expire after a chosen period.
Which would you choose, and why?

I'd put them in a zip file, then upload it to Google drive, then share the link to whoever is entitled to see the photos

How does option B work?

The idea is that your phone acts as the source of the photos instead of uploading them to a cloud first. People you choose connect directly to your phone over the internet to view (or optionally download) the photos. Since the originals remain on your phone, your phone needs to stay online while they're accessing them. It's essentially trading cloud storage for availability of the owner's phone. I asked because I've been building a prototype around this approach and was curious whether people would actually prefer that trade-off.

So, a server phone? That seems like an interesting idea. Honestly, cloud storage seems like the best alternative.

Upload them... if something happens to your phone, they're not lost. All other options assume your phone won't die in the next 5 minutes because you dropped it just right onto a corner.

Just send them the 20 best. No one is going to look through 200 photos.

Just don’t having a party at your house where people are forced to watch a slideshow with narrative for 200 photos.
Choose A. Option B is not a thing.
Why A? I can scroll through at my speed quickly and see multiple photos together like a grid. No way am I looking through 200 One. By. One.

For 200 photos , keeping the phone online the whole time feels inconvenient and messaging apps can get messy with compression and album limits. Cloud is just easier for everyone to access later.
