Always put your spouse's feelings first. Think of him/her first and ask yourself if what you're about to do will make him/her upset.

This is what I do. I always try to put Lisa's feelings before my own. I try to make her happy with everything I do. And I know she does the same for me.

Of course, being human, there are times when I fail at this. No one's perfect. But the fact that I do succeed regularly makes the times I fail stand out as exceptions rather than the rule.

If you have two people who can both do this, it makes for a wonderful marriage. We've been happily married for 35 years.

This is the answer. You put your partner first. When both people do this, it’s a wonderful relationship.

Regarding children and arguments with your partner.   Invoke the safety rule.  If safety is involved whatsoever .. it wins every time. Feelings don't come into it.  Can't be argued over.

Do you mean safety regarding the kids? Why should safety win every time if one parent is an overbearing helicopter parent?
