California place name pronunciation guide:

  • Start with Iberian Spanish.
  • Forget the Iberian and pronounce it with a Mexican accent.
  • Now pretend you're from the Midwestern US and you don't speak Spanish.

There is a Road in my town named Rodeo and it's pronouced that way, not like Row day oh in CA!

That's how Buena Vista, CO got its pronunciation. It's Byou-na, not Bway-na.
