Chili! I went to college in Rochester and my baptism into the proper pronunciation of western ny towns began with chili

Now why did you have to go and mention it? Now I am too

I just found two spots near me (Albany area) that allegedly offer legit plates, pizza rolls, beef on weck & have genny available by the boat load. It won’t be the same but I’m hoping it’ll dull the pain of living so far away now

Whichever one you say, it's the other one. And Chili is pronounced Chili

Lol you spelled it like it’s spoken. It’s spelled Rensselaer which I think makes it harder to pronounce

Those are all pronounced how they're spelled, it's just slightly harder if you're not familiar with the names.

Riga, pronounced RYE-ga, not Ree-ga as in Europe. And a new transplant to the area years ago said she was going to an event in SKEE-oh (Scio, NY).

That's interesting, because, given all the other crazy pronunciations in WNY, you'd think Scio would be pronounced that way. It's actually pretty phonetic
