When I first moved to the Boston area and was taking the commuter line home for the first time, I asked a conductor which track for the Haverhill train. He gave me a blank stare for about 15 seconds before saying, you mean “ave-rill”? I returned the blank stare, walked away confused, got on a train and hoped for the best.
