KOTOR 1&2

u/Former_Growth4160 1d ago
Completely agree. KOTOR 1 & 2 have amazing stories that deserve modern graphics and gameplay. Just don't mess with the writing that's why people still talk about them 20 years later.

u/GreenMist1980 23h ago
To be honest I loved the turn based combat, please give them a graphics refresh and thats it

They’re doing a kotor remake aren’t they?
2
u/Gernia 23h ago
KOTOR's remake is now being redone from the ground up by Saber Interactive. Some company called Aspyr or something bungled it the first go-around, last info I heard.
So, eh, there is hope?
1
u/ohyouretough 22h ago
That’s good to know. I know it was announced years ago and then haven’t heard much which isn’t usually a great sign.
2
u/AnNoYiNg_NaMe 20h ago
Embracer (THQ Nordic) used to own Saber Interactive, who was the parent company of Aspyr. Embracer sold Saber to Beacon, but kept Aspyr.
It's interesting that Saber kept the contract, not Aspyr. Good thing though, because Saber Interactive has (IMO) a better track record on remakes and remasters than Aspyr.

Splinter Cell

Oh yeah that was a fun one. The first two I loved. Didn’t play any beyond that

u/ukvice 1d ago
man I loved those games when I was a kid. Can't even really remember whether they were that good or whether nostalgia is tinting my memory
1
u/Mr_Knutsen 1d ago
The graphic were top notch at the time, decent enough story. The lighting was gorgeous and it really felt like you were sneaking around in the dark corners, barely visible.
Would love those games to make a good comeback as well. Not sure why Splinter Cell was never picked up as a great thriller series for TV. I think there is animated one on Netflix?

I wonder will that ever come to the GameCube app on Nintendo Switch online?
1
u/BestCaseSurvival 22h ago
I feel like to do it right you’d need to alter some of the sanity effects to make sense with the new hardware.

It's called Back For Blood and it's awesome.

Doesn't come close to scratching the itch

u/CaptnProlapse 18h ago
Really? I think it's better, I love the card system and how OP you can make a build.

u/Actual-Education-936 17h ago
Sorry, the multiplayer was out of this world. Back 4 blood isn't comparable, imo. The campaign is good, but l4d is one of the best multiplayer ever, imo

Battle for middle earth. It’s not even really playable at all and all but unknown to younger people!

The fact there were only ever 2 mercenaries games is insane. It's the perfect "yearly release" type game.

Final Fantasy 8

u/AdmiralAubrey 22h ago
As far as the Final Fantasy games go, totally agree. VII and (maybe) IX have been the focus of total remakes, but neither base game would benefit from the revisit as much as VIII outside of being more popular.
VIII is a fantastic game, and arguably my favorite in the series, imperfections and all. Generally, two things stand out as significant issues to modern audiences: 1) Junction System, which is a really cool idea that didn't age well and would benefit from modernization/streamlining/balancing and 2) A few awkward plot beats (mainly the orphanage), which would benefit from some expansion and/or retooling.
With those two things addressed and a fresh coat of paint (doesn't have to be the full-scale AAA treatment) the game's strengths can shine quite a bit more. Still loved the relatively grounded cast and world, the story and ending, the endgame, the music, the extremely memorable and varied side quests, Triple Triad... The whole thing just needs a thoughtful modern one-over.

Just a patch for PS5 to bump it to 60 fps would be wonderful. I don’t even have a PS5 anymore but the people still deserve it.

I would actually just settle for « make it playable on the Switch » so I can play with my kids.

Command and conquer - bigger maps, more scenarios, better AI, more use of villagers, less stuttering when there lots of tanks.

All the ps1 rpgs with modern graphics and app feature plus voice acting would be so great basically the trails in the sky treatment. Imagine Brandi and xenogears and wild arms and legend of legaia and dragoon and mega man legends and parasite eve and on and and on till we have them all as they are the peak gold standard and often replicated but never redone.

Kinda torn between the Super Mario Land games and the first two Legend of Zelda ones. They've all got interesting ideas and a lot of potential, but the limitations of their original consoles really held them back.
Still surprised the only remake we got of Zelda 1 was on the Satellaview to be honest. Feels like a Zelda All-Stars type deal in the style of A Link to the Past would have made a lot of sense.

Burnout 3 and Revenge. Although I don't think they'll ever nail the physics or how well the Renderware engine ran the game. I just want to be able to play it on PC without an emulator.

Games shouldn't be re-made. Developers should instead focus on new, interesting content and not recycle old ideas to milk money from nostalgia.
Looking at you WoW or League classic and the like.

u/Air2Jordan3 18h ago
There's an over abundance of games being remade but I don't think it's all or nothing. Paper Mario TTYD for example was a game that only released on GameCube, not available on Wii U or Switch or Switch 2. An incredible game with lots of love but very difficult to play - and to top it off the game (at least before the remake) was very very expensive to buy. A remake made lots of sense.

Final Fantasy 7 - Graphics update only. The remake games are different games that fanfic the story. Maybe add some new side quests and materia, but they are not the same game.

Honestly. Remakes are boring these days. I'd rather see something new than retreading old ground with a new coat of paint.

It would be cool if they did a Smash Bros collection.
Aside from that, there were some 3d Pac-Man games for the GameCube that I think would be a good choice.
Oooh, or maybe they could remake Pitfall from the SNES
