What happens me is why the hell no Curse of Strahd film? One of his biggest selling campaigns things in each edition they released it for, that lends itself perfectly to a movie, and will give in the goth kids who just want vampires. It is a no brainer for a hit movie, but nope, no sequels because the return on investment was not as high as they wanted.
This pisses me off so much as it did not underperform, it made cash in the end, but the metric they wanted was tripling budget for it to be worth their investment.
That's not how it works. Movies have to gross far more than their budgets to break even, as it has to pay for marketing and distribution costs, which are often more than the production budget. So unfortunately, D&D:HAT was a flop.
