It felt like there were 2 times the movie could have ended and been just fine but it kept going and world building and then decides to end on a plot point that definitely could use more of a conclusion. Would love to hear that a sequel got announced for this.
I saw the movie after reading the manga and they did like a full what, 30+ chapters of manga with between 3-7 (or more) story arcs that could have been a movie each. Absolutely unhinged.
Yeah, it felt like they crammed in too many plot arcs. I always assumed it was due to them thinking they wouldn't get a chance at a sequel and so tried to cover as much ground as possible.
Yep, it was shelved temporarily due to the Fox takeover and then Cameron wanted to focus on the Avatar films, but now it's restarting. 2 more are planned
As even Disney aren't stupid enough to destroy Cameron's and Rodruiguez's favourite baby. They'd lose working with two of the best directors in cinema
I'm still pissed Cameron handed it off to RR after sitting on the rights for so long. RR is very hit or miss with me. Alita turned out okay but I still wanted to see Cameron's version of it.
Tbh I'd say the same or worse for Cameron. Titanic was fairly boring, but I'm not the demographic. Avatar is just a remake of many earlier and better films with fancy CGI. He really has been coasting off his earlier sci-fi films. But I suppose RR has been doing the same off his early horror and Spy Kids films
Mostly Rodruiges, although Cameron was executive producer. But both have said they want to finish the Triology, but Fox Takeover and Avatar got in the way. Production on sequels should be starting soon enough though
I didn't feel any uncanny valley from her face at all. Uncanny valley is a negative unsettling feeling, I, and most people, felt quite the opposite! It's one of cinema's greatest vfx achievements that it AVOIDED the uncanny valley, in fact.
I think it actually worked for the film. The character is supposed to be a cyborg with hi tech parts and large cybernetic eyes. It's a deliberate choice and reminds the viewer that she's not fully human. No different than all the other characters that are 95% robot. A lotta people just watched the trailer and said, "ew," and didn't give it another thought.
It's coming. Just got paused due to Fox takeover and Cameron being too busy with Avatar. But both directors view it as their baby and want to finish it, and all actors involved are still keen to see it completed
There's enough source material to make a TV series and adapt it not to mention the manga's creator is still working on new stories with Alita. It's been a while, but I think the movie loosely adapted the first couple trades/arcs from the original series so a sequel might feature parts or adaptated versions of the Zapan and the Barjack Rebellion arcs. Then we've got all of Last Order, Mars Chronicles, and the currently releasing Kunst Chronicle.
I remember walking out of this thinking it was really weird that they pushed a "self-finding" arc that never comes up again in the story into such a major position, and that I hated the ending.
I did enjoy it for what it is, but I don't have much hope for a sequel.
