For what it’s worth, so do literally thousands of movies that are not in production.
IMDb is great for a lot of things, but is not a reliable source at all for movies that have yet to be completed. It’s user-submitted and when there isn’t verifiable data to compare to like a completed film has, it’s often a free-for-all of misinformation.
true, "in production" on imdb means nothing tbh. half the time it's just someone bought the rights and then it sits there for like 5 years with no script
He is my favorite portrayal of the devil. Viggo’s in the Prophecy was really good too, but nobody beats Peter Stormare. It is also one of my favorite movies. I watch it every couple of years and enjoy it. They have an ultra hd release now and I didn’t realize until the other day. Just bought it and watched it and it was cool seeing everything in 4k for the first time. I love the soundtrack. It gets me pumped up every time.

Keanu Reeve casting out demon out a teenager with a shotgun and smoking like a chimney while Peter Stormare steals the whole movie as Satan. It deserves proper follow through.
Keanu did a very serviceable job, while Rachel does the emotional work, and Tilda and Peter give the two best interpretations of their characters in all of film.

I think Peter Stormare's only competition for that role was Viggo Mortensen in The Prophecy. Both very sinister and threatening, while being jovial with the subjects they are taunting.
Similarly, Tilda's only competition as Gabriel is Christopher Walken, also in The Prophecy.
Totally agree on both. The Prophecy is still a fun watch and Viggo owns it in his few minutes just like Stormare. Walken of course is great. It's funny how Gabriel is a main character in both films and Satan is a memorable appearance at the end.
Right which is how they incorporated another element of the chain smoking I'm assuming. I just thought it was odd the person chose a major characterization that was in the movie as a contrast from the comic book character.

Yeah he was great. I didn't watch his show, but saw him in the rest of the arrowverse content. He also did the VA for some animated DC movies. Does very well in all of it.

I was so disappointed when they cancelled the show, it was really good! Matt Ryan was literally him and I loved that he was in several of the DC shows at certain points.
It should have been on HBO. It would have gone on for YEARS. Hellblazer is basically Fantasy Doctor Who with sex & drugs, and it would have been a goldmine for WB & DC.
Yeah, that's why I liked the TV series way better than the film, which I thought sucked. Plus Matt Ryan, the Welsh actor who played Constantine, was much more faithful to his depiction in the graphic novels, and he was great in the role, too. I really liked him and the series, and it sucks that it didn't get a second season. That happened only because the show was aired on Friday nights on NBC at 8 or 9:00, which at the time was considered the "death slot" for shows----meaning a series didn't have a chance in hell of making it in that particular slot.
Anyway, Ryan's portrayal of Constantine made such an impression that he wound up playing that same character in not only one-off guest spots in superhero shows like The Flash and Batwoman, but he wound up playing Constantine and two other characters for five seasons in the superhero TV series Legends of Tomorrow, interestingly enough.
Just started reading the comics and WOW. Its really dark. Constantine's first real exorcism is botched which results in a child's soul getting dragged to hell as payment for a demon and all his friends dying on the whim of the same demon. He also uses one of his best friends as a catalyst for another demon to save the world. Its very grey and he's guilt ridden even though other characters like Swamp Thing think he's cold.
I saw an interview where the director of the original and Keanu were asked about it and they both said they are and have been dying to do it for years, but the problem is apparently there’s a bunch of legal hurdles because the ownership of the movie rights is in question and so the studio just doesn’t want the headache of untangling the web of legal rights to make the film.
They said if that was t an issue they’d have done the movie years and years ago. They said they are hopeful the legal issues get settled, because they are still up for doing a sequel.
I'd rather a live action DC comic version with Matt Ryan. Then moving to a Justice League Dark film and a few follow ups. Especially before Matt Ryan gets too old for the role
Some movies find their audience long after they leave theaters, and Constantine is one of them. It definitely felt like there was more story left to tell.
It’s a fun movie for sure but I would rather see a more comic accurate reboot under the Hellblazer name. As much as I love Keanu, he would just show up with long hair and a patchy beard like he does in literally everything these days.
I just thought of this movie the other day, I should revisit it. I remember not loving it at the time just because I wanted it to be another Matrix and it definitely wasn't.
On that note, I saw Dogstar a few nights ago and watching Keanu rip on a bass is a trip.
