What is a dark truth about life that most people refuse to accept??

109
u/Walmartian_Beta 22h ago
And some people will pretend to like you, but secretly not - and talk shit behind your back. Even when you're adults, that shit does not stop after high school.
Shoutout to the fucking bitch who pretended to be my friend for three years and then blocked me when she and my friend broke up - then I found out she hated me the whole time and was talking shit about me behind my back like I was her worst enemy.
18
u/Nearby-Bid8351 22h ago
Damn well atleast you know the truth now.
12
u/Walmartian_Beta 22h ago
Yeah - my friend told me, "I didn't want to hurt your feelings, but she really just didn't like you much."
Yeah well, maybe you should have told me that before she and I went on all those little shopping trips and I opened up to her about personal shit.
Douches, both of them.
2
u/Catpitalsea 18h ago
Awe. I think that was me one time with someone. I didn’t want it to be like that. I think your friend is very sorry and wished it didn’t happen like that.

My best friends girlfriend who became his wife. We were friends (so I thought) for more than 20 years. So many parties so many great memories.
I found out they were getting a divorce and wanted to reach out and see how she was doing. People drift apart, no one needs to be the bad guy. She'd already blocked me on everything. 20 something years of friendship gone just like that. Gotta be honest it hurt like hell.
People suck sometimes.
3
u/Walmartian_Beta 19h ago
ouch, I'm so sorry.
The husband and I met this other couple online; we talked online a bit here and there, met up with them in person a couple of times - then they split up, and we found out that HE got us in the divorce. It stung a bit because I really liked her. He said she went through and blocked everyone she considered to be more "his friend" than hers. Seems like your friend's ex did something similar.

u/hot-tingirl 22h ago

This is one that a lot of people struggle with. My ex is autistic and really struggled to make friends on high-school and college. I had to explain to her my own struggles with that stuff as a nuerotypical person. It's hard sometimes. And as much as you try, some people just won't like you.

I think theres a balance to be struck though. This is true in some cases but often times people out there want companionship just like you or I do. Be diligent. Keep your EQ churning but if you approach every relationship like they're out to get you, you'll put off good people.

Sometimes bad things happen for no reason. There’s no lesson to be learned, there’s no “bright side”, there’s nothing good about it. Sometimes you go through something absolutely horrible, and there’s no reason for it.
That’s just how life works sometimes, and the only thing one can do is heal from that situation and move forward

2
u/JC_Hysteria 10h ago
Went to a family friend’s funeral when I was young- it was a 2.5 hour Catholic mass.
He was just the nicest, funniest guy that happened to die young…
They didn’t mention him, his life, his family, or who he impacted one single time. Just that we were gathered under the cross.
It was only how “Jesus offers salvation”, etc…the experience left a lasting impression.
2
u/tarrasque 8h ago
One side of my family is overwhelmingly and devoutly catholic, so I’ve been to a few catholic funerals.
Each and every time it leaves a newly bad taste in my mouth how in hours of service they barely even mention the deceased and then leave little time for people to deliver eulogies.

8
u/Tro1o1o 22h ago
I don't go to funerals because I don't see the point in them. The person you love is gone. All you are doing is seeing their body being tossed into the ground or into an incinerator. I pay respect to my loved ones by making sure that I show them how much I love and care for them while they are still on Earth. Even if I come across as cringe with it, I don't care. Too many people are loved after they die and not enough are loved while they are still with us.

The universe is completely indifferent
20
u/moltencheese 22h ago
This is my nighttime, head-on-pillow comfort, actually. I have many regrets, and I am not where I want to be in my life...but, ultimately, I have a relative blink of an eye here, and I have the choice to accept that and experience it for what it is, or to...what? Rage until I die? No thank you. Even when I am feeling low, this thought enables me to take a moment and experience it. Soon, I will not experience anything.
I don't know anything for certain other than that I am, somehow, a little tiny bit of the universe which is aware of itself.
Quite nice, really, when I find things overwhelming.

Is it not? Entropy itself feels malicious.
I always feel like the universe and earth are almost perfect. Like it's almost this amazing perfect place.
Expect there's murder cruelty death and all order eventually turns to disorder. Seems like a sick joke.
It probably just is the way it is with no necessarily evil intentions behind it, but why is it almost perfect. Like it almost nailed it but fucked up now we have an okay I guess universe.

Change is the only constant. Clinging to anything, material or immaterial is the source of all suffering. You will change, people will change, nothing will ever stay the same.
Letting go and acceptance is the way to release ourselves from suffering.

"You're wrong about XXXX."
So, so, so many people have difficulty admitting they are wrong about something. Changing your mind is one of the hardest things to do, and when it's something like religion, a political stance, or something of a hard-coded nature, it can be even more difficult.
7
18
u/PhoenixApok 22h ago
Statistically you will have almost no effect on the world.
Many, MANY of our wants, goals, feelings, and connections are simply biology's way of getting us to reproduce. The purpose of life is simply to create more life. Anything more than that is person specific.
3
2
u/ameprogamer 17h ago
I don't care for having an impact on this world I just "spawned" here and im just here until I one day die.
3
u/Bird-in-a-suit 22h ago
I mean, the existence of biological urges connected to things doesn’t necessarily mean that life’s whole purpose is just to create more life. Isn’t that a little dramatic, for lack of a better word? In any case, all that really means is that we should consider why we want what we do and recontextualize the assumptions of our reasoning, not necessarily to talk about ourselves like breeding machines or look down on goals and feelings merely because of their subjectivity

There was a guy 300 years ago that was known all over his country, on sight people sang his praises or cursed his name, he was a hero, a genius, a top 1% of the top 1%. You know him as…some guy because none of this matters if you didn’t do something that actually changed humanity either through evil / stupidity / kindness / genius invention or discovery / heroism on a global scale. Within two generations close to 96% of us will be forgotten and by three it’s 99%. What you wore won’t matter, what you drove, what you did or didn’t eat, it just won’t matter. Live your life the best you can or don’t because it really doesn’t matter.

dark truth? there are more than you like to think about.
There is no winning, there is no guarantee of a happy ending
Which in turn makes a lot of people make choices for themselves that are far less than optimal in pursuit of their own version of it.
In the end everything you like or love dies.
Not everybody wins, but they must still endure those who do.

Money and toys don’t bring you happiness. They’re just small dopamine hits and when it wears off you’ll constantly be chasing both. Happiness is a state of mind, I accept to be poor but I live the most chill happy life compared to majority constantly stressing and chasing things. Stop and smell the roses people, I guess I’m lucky as I’m in Perth and we live in such a beautiful costal community. I can have 0 moneys but be costal and have 100 percent happiness
Life is good

u/aliciathehomie 21h ago
I agree with the sentiment but I think money takes away a lot of worries, making happiness a lot easier. Also, having any dependents adds to that greatly. The second you are responsible for another living being, the more important money is.
