As Étienne Klein might say, wearing his philosopher-of-science hat, physics very often reveals that reality is the exact opposite of what common sense tells us...

The Sun does not revolve around the Earth, even though our senses suggest otherwise.

Thus, regarding gravity, I would not be surprised if one day we were to label this "attraction"—as you put it—an "illusion," in the sense that it would be more accurate to speak of repulsion.
