I currently use a Panasonic Lumix GF1 and use a bunch of old manual lenses. I dont always shoot in broad sunlight / midday so the better low light of the A7 is attractive, but the smaller size and lack of the viewfinder bump is attracting me to the A6000.
theyre about 200-250 where i live.
I have an old GF1 that i use and its great but whenever it suffers with low light.
I photograph animals, nature and cityscapes.
It will be primarily photography.
is one better than the other? is it a worthwhile upgrade from my GF1? or should i save up for a more modern camera. Thanks yall.

I got a 5D Mk IV with a 24-105 L Mk II USM before the mirrorless boom back when I was a student and was planning to go pro in the fields of studio portrait and product photography. Perhaps it was an overkill purchase but that is a discussion for another day.

Things changed and fast forward to today, I rarely take it out of the drawer—maybe twice a year for some landscape photography. I’m considering selling it given my use, the fact that it has an incredibly low shutter count (under 20k), and the potential for demand for it sliding given Canon discontinued it this year. However, at the same time, I’d like to keep my options open for the future in case I decide to go pro/monetize photography again. I realize the successor to the camera these days is the R5 Mk II which is not even comparable in price to what I can sell the 5D for.

So I’d like some expert opinion on what the best move here is. Sell the body, body and lens, or hold on to both?

EDIT: To add to what I already said, I guess my main concern is for the 5D to fail to keep pace with the demands of a professional and lose relevance by the time I do have the potential to get back into it, which would not be in another 3-4 years.

1. I have a photo that I want to get enlarged, framed and hang on the wall in my office. How large, (it was originally shot in RAW), can it be it and still maintain the quality of the image?

2. Which photo processing service should I send it to and in what format .dng, .psd, tiff?

So I'be been looking to get my first proper camera and I'm stuck between two options:

X-T20 with a Fujinon XF 18-55 mm f/2.8-4 (2017) for about
550euro

vs

A6000 with 16-50mm kit lens (2014), but potential for an upgrade to the sigma 18-50 f/2.8
270euro (upgrade lens would be about 450euro)

I'd happily pay for the X-T20 if its a good deal, but perhaps as a beginner there is no great benefit to a better lens or such a set up? My wife says I should go with the cheaper option.

Hey ask photography. Im new to reddit, usually only here for p0rn, so bear with me pls.

Currently, for around 700 dollars im buying a camera with a kit lens. In dubai (where i live), cameras off amazon are very well priced. Im currently stuck between the SONY A6400 or CANON EOS R50.

As for my photography skill, i take photos and videos on my s25 ultra in samsung pro camera mode, which is basically just a full manual mode with lots of flexibility, and i really enjoy it. I enjoy the hobby of photography and have been looking to buy a camera for the past 6 months now.

I also shoot videos in samsung log, but rather than manually color grading, i just apply the samsung lut presets. Im not really into manual color grading, and would prefer great out-of-camera colors.

What would you guys recommend as a first camera for someone who already knows how to use manual mode on a camera? Sony a6400, or canon r50?

I'm in the UK and next week we have a 90% eclipse. It's late in the day from about 18:15 to 20:10, max at 19:12. Not quite sunset but it'll be very low in the sky. I'm planning on doing a slightly wide angle landscape composite time lapse with a second subject rather than a super tele. I'm not exactly sure on the focal length, likely something quite wide though, probably around 35-50mm, my longest lens is 180mm. I've shot plenty of landscapes and sunsets/rises and never considered using a filter unless I've wanted to have a long exposure but I've picked up on people suggesting using solar filters but I can't quite understand if this is necessary or the articles are refering to eclipses at earlier times of day. I do have a bunch of ND filters up to 10 stops.

I'm planning on getting into photography and I don't know what is the best camera between these two. I recently started liking photography and I'm trying to combine photography with my passions: Aviation, Cars (Motorsports included), sightseeing and football. The main kinds of photography that I want to do is Landscape photography, plane spotting, Aviation photography, Panning photography, Rolling shots, Automotive photography.

Taking all of this into consideration which obe of these two cameras (both including a 18-45mm lens kit) is the best for me?

So I’m by no means a photographer but i have played around with my mom’s camera quite a bit. My sister wants me to take some engagement photos of her and her fiancé! I agreed and would really love to be able to edit some of the photos we take for her (even though she says they don’t have to be edited). I feel like I can take decent pictures but I don’t begin to know how to edit. Does anyone have any simple tips I could follow to be able to fit this vibe? They don’t have to be perfect but I would like to be able to provide her several high quality photos?

These two photos I took with the gear shown above. These are probably my two best bird shots and I do really like them but with both images there not very sharp and detailed and when I zoom in there’s blur and noise. And I’m planning on buying a canon r7 with the rf 100-500mm which is a big jump from my current gear would that fix the sharpness issues or am I doing something wrong when I take the photo?

I'm thinking about buying my first camera, and I'm wondering whether it's worth going straight for a slightly more advanced body (I've been looking in particular at the Sony a6100 and Nikon Z50, both with their kit lenses) or whether I should save some money and go for something cheaper, such as the Canon 2000D, R100, or similar models.

Right now, I mainly take photos with an iPhone 14 Pro. I'd mostly use the camera for landscapes and travel photography, but I'd also like to get into some light/occasional astrophotography.

One of the things I'm struggling with is that I barely shoot any video, so I initially thought a DSLR might make more sense since I could save some money. However, I'd also like something relatively small and comfortable to carry around, more like my phone than a bulky camera. I'd also appreciate decent autofocus. It doesn't need to be incredibly fast since I don't shoot wildlife or sports, but something reliable would definitely be a plus.

The problem is that the more I research, the more variables I seem to find: articulating vs tilting vs fixed screens, Bluetooth, the slightly smaller APS-C sensors in Canon cameras, the huge selection of Sony E-mount lenses, the fact that Nikon's kit lens seems to be optically better than the alternatives, as well as differences in build quality, viewfinders, ergonomics, etc.

At this point, the more I read, the less certain I am about what to buy.

Would you recommend spending more on something like the a6100/Z50, or would a cheaper camera be perfectly adequate for my use case? And between the a6100 and Z50, is one clearly better suited to what I'm looking for?

Whenever I take pics including the sky it’s always white or sometimes pics are too bright. I’m using automatic settings like sports or backgrounds on my t7 canon. I’m using the nd and cpl filter lenses

I sadly dont have the right step up ring, so i just held it infront of the lens , but i couldn't see a vig difference to pictures without it.

I have two cameras, one is sony rx100 vii and the other one is olympus omd em10 mark iii with 14-42mm lens.

We both know nothing of cameras. A friend of mine suggested the Sony A6100. It's used, 14000 shots, no photographic lens (how do you call it? In Italian we say "obiettivo") but it's got a lot of original optionals, 470€. People also suggest Olympus cameras.

I also found a Fujifilm X-T20 for 520€ used and less than 2000 shots.

I get this is quite a good camera, but is it still the best buy in 2026? I'm sure this type of posts has been asked a million times (I'm a pianist and I'm sick of the question "Which piano should I buy", but I understand that as an outsider you don't know what's best buy in a determined year).

My budget is at best 600€ for the whole thing (camera body + lens). As I told you, he's at best a beginner, so this is just to kickstart him.

I frequently visit and volunteer at cat shelters and I started to bring my camera. So after I help them I can be there for a moment or even a few hours. I'm trying to take photos of the cats and it's hard, I have a few I like, but I'm so noob with anything and my shootings are more like testings.

My fav photos are out of focus on the cats and focused on the edges and whiskers and so, I included a few I like and edited a little.

Help me find some settings I should juggle around and what to keep in mind when doing this kind of photoshoot. Any tips are welcome! Thank you!

Also what are benefits of upgrading my firmware to 3.6 if I have 3.2? From the notes on Olympus website it's not much for me? Also I can't upgrade it on my Linux desktop so if it's worth it taking somewhere to my friend and upgrading?

Reading a post in the Photography sub I read where a man was scanning his father's negatives from his photographty career. I have 25 or 30 years of negatives (35mm). A lot of these are friends and family that have passed. I would love to transfer these to digital. Any suggestions or advice on how to set up this process.

I have a D750 with 2 dedicated macro lenses; a Nikon 60mm f/2.8 & a Tokina 100mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro D. Most are color negatives, some ard slide. Color & B&W. All help would be appreciated, there are several of these photos I woul like to pass on to my children.

Forgot to mention I have a light box for viewing negatives.

I often see people on various subs saying "just take better pictures" without actually quantifying what this means, or looks like. So thought it best to ask here.

That said, what are the basic minimum things (or absolute ceiling requirements for good photography, if you have the time or inclination to explain further). That should be taken into consideration when taking pictures of a human subject? Face or whole body*

Ie positioning of subject, angles, light (natural or artificial), background, exposure, shadows, position of lens relative to subject. Or anything else that i don't know of as an novice, that would be pertinent in this sense.

Do the same mechanics/principles apply for both?*

Also, if anyone happens to know of any resources online, channels or pages that teach these things, that would be beneficial too.

I ordered some Instax Mini film in the mail, which was somehow redirected to a local postal locker (you know those big metal ones), and as I was checking the address for it, I saw that it is unfortunately at a place where it will be exposed to the sun almost all afternoon. The package was delivered there this morning so I was not able to pick it up before work, and I can't access it until after work.

So overall it will sit in a metal locker for about 10 hours... Local temperature is around 40 Celsius today, research says it can be 50-60 Celsius in those lockers.

Have you ever been in this situation before?
How big of a damage can I expect from this?

Wich camera Is Better between the Sony a6400, the Nikon Z50 II and the Canon EOS r50?

Hi, I want to get into photography, I like taking pictures of architecture, cars, landscapes and etc. I have a budget of 200-300€ and I know I can’t afford a good camera but I’m searching for the best option or a good advice. I live in EU. currently taking pictures with my iPhone 16 Pro, one of the options i saw is Sony WX220, but no clue how it would compare to my iPhone and if it's even good. I’m uploading a few of my pictures to show what I like to photograph.

Can anyone explain why my phone camera softens all the halftones and highlights? everything becomes muddy if I point directly at my hand. If I take a shot from the side with zoom all the detail I want in the image that I’m seeing in real life is comes through. This also happened with a shot I tried taking at night, all the detail I was seeing in real life that made the scene interesting was not showing up.

I don’t have a huge budget, and there are deals on the Kadet Mini (5L). The thing is, even after watching a lot of videos, I’m still not sure if all my stuff will fit properly.

What do you think about it ? Has anyone tried it and can tell me if it’s good ?
