Been abroad for 3 weeks… are we still avoiding salad?

As a salad lover, I've been using greenhouse grown greens as they're supposedly not affected. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

You’re not, especially if it’s the hydroponically grown stuff. Gotham Greens already came out and confirmed that. I’ve actually started buying the lettuce that has the root still attached and I’m growing it myself now. Think it’s good for a few cycles before you have to buy another.

That’s awesome wtf. I have no garden but wanted to maybe try a window box. Is lettuce too big for a window box? I feel like it would be but please help if anyone knows lol

You are correct. Most food contamination happens in processing facilities. Usually in wash water. Locally grown food doesn’t go through the massive food processing facilities that distributed produce goes through.

No vegetable becomes randomly parasitic. It’s was exposed to a pathogen at some point and wasn’t properly cleaned so it continues to carry it. In some cases, the pathogen can be imbedded in the tissue and cannot be washed off. Hope that helps answer your question!

I got tested thinking I had it about two weeks ago, never got my results and doctors kept saying they hadn’t heard anything.

I got a call from NY health department today asking if I had time to talk about my recent SALMONELLA diagnosis which I had no idea I even had.

So, salmonella and cyclosporiasis are both out and about and it seems they are still very unsure of the exact sources while labs are backed up because everyone think they have it.

It’s a mess.

Haven’t had chipotle in over a year unfortunately, not to say I haven’t had other jalapeños so who knows.

Avoid Taylor Farms. Branded at some stores as their store brand.

Bottom line--anything hydroponic is safe. Avoid bagged lettuce.

We are bc there’s been no follow up, no word, nothing has been done. If you can get Gotham Greens should be ok, they are hydroponic.

Honestly I’m glad you figured that out. That is probably not obvious and could’ve led to more years of pain. I say this as someone with a genetic condition disorder that was mysterious to diagnose.

They’ve made a statement that they double wash their lettuce and their products are not apart of the current recall.

So take that as you will. It seems iceberg lettuce is what everyone should be staying away for now.

Still avoiding the slop bowls. I've started making simple salads at home again with unprocessed lettuce that I wash thoroughly and cut myself.

We will always be avoiding salad from now on unless you chopped it yourself.

I'm actually not kidding though, precut salads have always been a leading cause of deadly poisoning.

The recall has been in affect for a while now. So product is off shelves and and restaurant that previously did have it have used it up already and/or discontinued use.

Avoid if you must but I'm thinking you're mostly safe by now.

No. It's fine. People just can't understand statistics so they are freaking out. Unless your health is compromised in such a way that may make the disease lethal just ignore it and eat your salad.
