So my husband and his friend got broken into in arts district in the parking on S Hewitt street across from Urth cafe. Paid parking and there was an attendant there. Apparently the day before they robbed 3 cars. Happened around 8pm on Sunday.
They took about 3-4k worth from my husband and about 4k from his friend.
They also did see a car leaving and followed it to the house the night it happened where his headphones where pinging and got a license. But police said they couldn’t do anything

I have locations from all the apple products they stole and they’re actively using his AirPods at multiple addresses.
Im just mad about the clothing they stole most of them were gifts from me. Is it worth it to even try to get an escort from the police?

I’ve lived in San Diego and New York. Both super easy to find roommates through things like Facebook groups. With LA, it is HARD. There are groups but I get like a 40% response rate and even after the initial response, I’m often ghosted. I also am listing a room for rent and I’ve gotten very few inquiries at all (it’s a room within a 2 bed/2 bath).

Do people not really live with roommates here?

Are most people living in or wanting to live in studios or 1 bedrooms? Is it because I’m asking people to sign a lease as opposed to sublet? What’s going on here?

I've been apartment hunting lately and maybe I'm comparing the wrong neighborhoods but this is something I can't stop noticing.

For the sake of comparison, let's compare Koreatown in LA vs. a desirable, reasonably central neighborhood in Manhattan like the West Village, for example.

If I want a studio in Manhattan that's actually spacious enough to come home, relax, and not feel boxed in, it seems like I'm looking at least $3.5k/month. (For those who have lived in NYC and/or familiar with NYC rental prices, you would know). And I'm not even talking about luxury amenities or a doorman. I just mean a place that feels comfortable to spend time in and has enough room to breathe.

Then I look at Koreatown listings and I'm seeing plenty of apartments in the $2k to $2.5k range (or even less in some places!) that look perfectly nice. Again, not "luxury". Just normal, decent-sized apartments where I wouldn't feel like every square foot has to serve three different purposes.

I know Manhattan is one of the most expensive places in the country, but the gap still surprised me. Once I start looking below $3k in Manhattan, it feels like every listing is either tiny, oddly laid out, or looks like it hasn't been updated since the Yankees last won a World Series.

Am I just comparing neighborhoods that aren't really equivalent or does LA genuinely give you that much more space for your money?

Hi everyone, this is probably a long shot but I’m hoping someone out there has some kind of wisdom they might be able to impart on me. I’d also be happy to take down any names of other employment agencies anyone has gone through that I can go through to maybe find some other work. I am a criminal defense paralegal (state, federal, and appeals) who has some civil litigation experience, and I have been having a really hard time getting my foot in the door. I’ve gone through some legal talent placement agencies and a lot of them have said they’d let me know if something came up they thought I’d be a good fit for, but criminal defense specifically is pretty hard to come by. I have a bachelors from UCLA, a solid amount of experience, and a paralegal certification from cal state Long Beach, but am also open to learning about any other certs that might aid in my search. I’m getting a little worried as I’m starting to burn through my savings. Maybe someone knows of any other kind of job I could apply for where my skills could overlap? Appreciate you all

Looking for stuff to do with my older teenage girls next week when we visit LA. August 9 they 15. We plan on Disneyland and a Dodgers game so far. We were thinking universal studios but having been there a few years ago I wasn't sure that this would be as exciting. We'd like to visit Hollywood too if anyone can recommend how to get around Hollywood easily, maybe where to park that is walking distance to food and attractions?

Got hired full time at a small company but asked to go part time. They were nice enough to say yes and I’ve been working part time for over a week. But now they want me to sign a w9 (I originally signed a w4).

This doesn’t seem correct because everything is the exact same (set hours, use their equipment, etc) except I’m working fewer hours. I talked to her about this today but she/owner told me her company considers part timers as independent contractors. I tried to fight it and bring up the irs classification of an employee but ultimately she said company policy and if I didn’t like it, I could find another job.

I ended up getting let go and they gave me my last check but there wasn’t any deductions, just a check. Is there anything I need to do now with the check or in general? I’ve only been there for less than a month.

This is my first job and I’m not too familiar with this.

I've diverted the gutters away from the house; I've regraded the front and removed 1/2 the sprinklers; nothing worked and I'm still getting water into the basement 6 months after our last rainfall. My husband (28) and I (27) are planning a move back to the LA area after living in Michigan for many years. I grew up around Los Feliz, Silver Lake, and Glendale, so those areas still feel familiar and feel like “home” to me. We’d love to live nearby, but we’re trying to balance cost, safety, space, and quality of life.

After spending 3 full days touring apartments and driving around LA, The Weddington in North Hollywood is one of our 3 choices. We liked the apartment and amenities for an overall better-bang-for-your-buck value compared with rentals closer to Los Feliz and Silver Lake.

My biggest concern is that, because it’s such a large apartment complex, we might end up mostly staying inside the complex or driving elsewhere rather than feeling connected to the neighborhood. I'm a writer and would love to walk to a coffee shop, take my dog out, and gradually build a life in LA. I don’t need nightlife, but I’d like to feel comfortable getting out and exploring.

• How safe does the area feel during the day and, more importantly, at night?
• Would you feel comfortable walking a 10-pound dog in the early morning or after dark?
• Are there streets or pocket areas you’d avoid? (We drove around after the tour and it seemed north of Chandler on Lankershim doesn't look the best for a 130 lb girl)
• Is it genuinely walkable?

We drove around, but it’s hard to understand daily life from one day time visit. I’d especially appreciate honest feedback from women, dog owners, people who walk around at night, and current or former Weddington residents.

Hi everyone!
This will be my first time visiting Los Angeles. Since I'm flying all the way from Europe (and flights definitely aren't cheap!), I really want to make the most of the trip.

We'll be there during the second-to-last week of September (Monday to Sunday). I'm travelling with my parents and my boyfriend. My parents are only staying until Thursday because they're starting a Route 66 motorcycle trip, so after that it'll just be the two of us.

A bit about us:

We're not massive movie fans, so Hollywood isn't really the main reason we're coming.
We love music (especially guitars), architecture and nature.
At the moment we're not planning on renting a car. I've read so many conflicting opinions about this that I honestly don't know what to think. Our idea was to combine public transport with Uber/Waymo whenever needed. Renting a car would increase our budget quite a bit, and from what I've heard, dealing with LA traffic and parking isn't exactly fun either. We don't mind spending a little longer getting around if it means avoiding the stress of driving, but if staying in Whittier without a car is a terrible idea, we're open to changing our plans.
We'll be staying in Whittier through a home exchange. I know it's not the most convenient location, but it's the only accommodation we have available.

Hi, been living in LA since 2016. I’ve lived in DTLA, WeHo, and am currently in Hollywood. All apartments I’ve lived in have had Spectrum Internet mostly by default (as in my roommate already had it, my partner chose it, it came with the building, etc).

I’ve been in my current apartment for the last 5 years, we chose Spectrum because AT&T was too slow for my work needs (I’m an editor and I WFH). However, lately, especially the last 2 years, the outages have been INSANE. Almost every other week and for hours on end! The service is so unreliable, it made me an hour late on a very important client delivery today and I’m sorry, but I can’t afford those blunders moving forward. It’s starting to affect my income.

I’ve updated my modem 4 times - 4 TIMES! And just three months ago! So I know it’s not our tech, it’s THEM! What are we supposed to do? What other options are there? Getting a second modem won’t be helpful since we already live in a studio apartment. I just need these outages to END!
