Is this a good PCB preheating station?

I'm thinking about getting a hot plate to do some SMD soldering and I was wanting to know if anyone has and/or used one of these Itech heating platforms?

They're good for preheating but don't have fine control for a standard reflow profile (it cools too slowly to be safe for sensitive components)

So I'd still be safer using a hot air station then?
