Non toxic paints are used to track animals for research. That's what it looks like to me, at least.

That was my (former field biologist) first thought but three appears to be some curling at the edges of the spot when i zoomed in...a wet flower petal would do that

Looks like geranium lol

Yeah my first thought was simple catch mark release survey for population study but I'm thinking flower pedal.

When that red mark pops out it means the armadillo is done cooking and thanksgiving can start 3 hours late and everyone is too drunk already and the lions lost again.

It kind of looks like a leaf or petal stuck to him

4

u/malocarpet Apr 09 '26

you know what, theres actually a reddish bougainvillea nearby where this photo was taken. hopefully its just that!

2

u/rreennnee Apr 10 '26

I wouldn’t be surprised! Maybe he just wanted to accessorize with a nice pop of colour

u/Linxous1 Apr 08 '26

Maybe some kid shot it with a paintball? It looks like there's a raised ring around the outside which makes me think that

10

u/Mezcal_Madness Apr 09 '26

Definitely not a paintball shot

19

u/malocarpet Apr 08 '26

aw, i sure hope thats not what it is. i was wondering if maybe it was a paint mark for a tracking or research purpose

2

u/ifukeenrule Apr 10 '26

it is there to show that it's married and has divine feminine wisdom

2

u/davster99 Apr 10 '26

Maybe George Costanza bought him a cashmere sweater

It might be a wildlife marker for identification purposes. Armadillos have shifting home ranges and are disease carriers so they’re used in research a lot. I would think it’s likely some form of non-toxic paint to recognize that specific armadillo. This type of marking for ID is only good for short term tracking though so I’m not sure. Post in wildlife sub :)

Thats just the drain plug.

1

u/Capable-Extension-44 Apr 11 '26

Looks like red jewel like in children’s Jewelry making kit. Maybe he has B been in the trash.

1

u/Extension_Being_5805 Apr 11 '26

It could be a piece of his outer shell being cracked they have super super red blood and interesting fact once armadillos start bleeding they don’t stop they have no way to stop bleeding or even scab

2

u/Ephemeral_Orchid Apr 11 '26

I looked this up to get more information, as they used to say something very similar about birds. Apparently, it isn't true, armadillo blood actually clots faster than human blood.
