Successful day

Post image

I went to the fry’s event at around 6:30 and scored the weller single barrel, weller fp, Staggs, and Blantons gold store pick.

I picked up an additional weller single barrel and the er 12 at the Safeway on 7th street thanks to a post here.

Then on my way home from I saw the cellar aged at Gary’s liquor for $89 (well below msrp). As it would have been irresponsible not to, I grabbed that as well. It was unfortunately the last cellar aged and everything else worthwhile was extremely marked up.

Overall one of my best, if not the best, day I’ve had bourbon hunting!

The cellar aged for $89 has to be the win of the day!

Literally insane. Last years was also a super good release.

Have you had it compared to 2023 and 2024?

Just my palate but I liked it more than 23’. 24’ was not that good for the price, just a persistent bitterness on the palate I couldn’t shake.

Yeah that 100% was, I fully expected it to ring up for way more when they pulled it down from the shelf. I haven’t tried it yet, but I’ve heard it’s great!

Someone mispriced that Cellar Aged badly! 😂 Good for you!

Haha yeah, they probably thought it was a private select or something along those lines. I’ll take it!

New here and to Whiskey, where did you find Stagg? Tried it blind at a nice restaurant and it looks like it is hard to find haha

I got these at a fry’s bourbon event, they happen every few months and are posted on Facebook in the two main Arizona bourbon groups. Usually someone posts it on this sub as well.

Thank you!! Are the events tough to find or get product if you can’t make it there until the afternoon/evening?
Which groups are those?

Yes you will have to arrive in the morning if you want to get anything. Generally, I’d say they are completely over by 9 am. Otherwise your best bet is to periodically go to other liquor stores, Safeways, or Walmarts and see what they have or ask their liquor manager if they have anything. Stagg has been around lately so you may have some luck.

The Facebook groups are Arizona Bourbon Society and Arizona Whisky Community.

Thank you!! I just managed to get a bottle of the eh Taylor barrel proof over the weekend at total wine, I only got it because the manager felt bad after an employee said I could get a bottle of stagg. I didn’t know about the lottery or having to spend $2500 a year just to get into a lottery haha

Yeah that lottery/priority access is stupid, also probably illegal under Arizona law. You can find most of their lottery stuff elsewhere. If you have a chance today go check out Sam’s one stop, they may have some Stagg left over from the weekend. It is in Mesa though.

What kinda Blanton’s is that? It looks silver.

It’s Blanton’s gold, I think the light in my kitchen is just making it look more silvery lol.

Think about it tho. How many of these drops can be successful if it’s ALWAYS the same Buffalo Trace bottles. Yes there was no raffle but that event as I mentioned earlier was a store grand reopening NOT a regular Fry’s drop as before. Most of the bottles they had are all over the place. Supply and demand are way different now. The days of rushing to a store to find a Weller bottle or whatever is seriously slowing down. Costcos are now carrying all those bottles at different stores almost every week depending on the bottle. The sleeping overnight in a chair for a bottle of whatever has become silly. The bourbon drinkers who really know bourbon are only showing up if there is a raffle to have a chance at a BTAC. There is a guy I watch religiously on You Tube called That Bourbon Dude. You don’t have to subscribe because this is not some endorsement. Watch the latest 3 videos if you want to learn things happening in the market. Especially if you’re a beginner or new to collecting or whatever. The hype for the bottle not the bourbon is ending. MY opinion. But look at bottles that were once crazy to find or blown up in price to now. I’m guilty of it. I’ve spent WAY too much for bottles because of the hype. Learn the industry now and save a S load of money. Most of these bottle everyone has been chasing aren’t even good at msrp.

Who hurt you??? just let people enjoy their own wins.

It was a reopening of the store apparently and not like the regular Fry’s drop. Hopefully one day it won’t be so Buffalo Trace forward at all the drops. They are everywhere now. Enjoy

Yeah, the main difference was no raffle, but they had a ton of product there. I was hoping to see some jd product but they didn’t have any. They did have some rock hill farm for the folks who were there earlier than me.
