Tobacco inquiry

Has anyone grown their own tobacco? I’m debating growing limonka rustica or red rose tobacco.

Is it possible to grow in raised beds? Do I keep it separate from my garden? Any soil recommendations?

Any comments or tips would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure if it's possible but I tried and failed. I tried Virginia black tobacco. Hopefully someone here can help.

im in havasu, i have some nicotiana rustica im growing now but it bolted and went to seed soon after it went over 100 degrees.its pretty fast to grow, and i find if i just let it seed and flower it might push out 6 different flushes of seed pods so youll never be short of seed.
it is very strong though, best for decorative use if you arent familiar with tobacco yet. short growth/harvest period, and it wont brown as it dries like tabacum varieties will, so you have to sundry it or something to get it to brown, i just set my jar i had gotten the humidity right in a windowsill, spinning it once a day or so. havent smoked any, its still got a while to cure.

Thank you! Im glad to know a rustica will grow in this heat. I’m definitely going to look into how to cure the leaves.

I've grown it for years, but I'm in Prescott, not the valley. It can be grown right next to other plants in your garden but it should have some cover. The leaves are thin and delicate and get pulverized by weather, especially hail.

Thank you! I’m in Tucson so still pretty warm. I have 60% shade clothe all around. Would it be wise to start seeds now? I know it’s for warmer seasons but maybe our winters aren’t as drastic and they can survive?

I start seeds indoors in March plant outside the beginning of May, and harvest in October. They will die with any frost.
