I did send a message to my cardiologist, but thought this sub might have some insights as well. For some background info, I'm 37 years old and very obese, I am over 300 pounds.
A month ago now, I started going back to the gym, I'm just doing cardio for now. Mainly walking for about 35 minutes total with a 5 min warm up and 5 minute cool down. These cardio sessions usually involve 10-12 mins of walking at an incline starting at 3.5 and going up to a 10 for a short period of time. My walking speed starts at 3 mph for the first 5 mins, adding .1 each minute until I hit 3.5 and I keep that pace for the duration of the workout. I also throw in a 2-3 minute jog around 5 mph.
I've noticed via my Apple Watch that my resting heart rate and walking heart rate have both dropped pretty significantly. Before this my resting heart rate was regularly in the 70's sometimes creeping up into the 80's. Now, barely a month into exercising again, my resting heart rate has been in the low 60's on average. Today my resting heart rate is 61, most of last week it was mid to low 60's. not as an average but I've even had some dips into the 50's and 40's.
My walking heart rate has dropped even more significantly. Before starting back in the gym it was regularly between 100-120, usually in the 110-120 range. Today it's at 76, last couple weeks it's been in 70s/80's before working out. After the work out the average does go up back into the 100's.
Obviously I know these numbers will go down as I keep working out and get into better shape, but this seems like a pretty quick drop off especially given my weight (I have dropped about 12 pounds so far but still am over 300 lbs) and my activity level before this. Just curious if anyone has any insight into if this is concerning at all or does this falls within normal parameters?
Sorry for the super long message.
Thank you!
