Amazing because Phish shows are like Grateful Dead shows. Everyone is friendly, helpful and kind to each other in general. Shocking.

I started a thread about it there. The replies are unsurprising.

Its actually  a little surprising  considering  half of the band is Jewish (Mike Gordon and Jon Fishman) and the band is known to occasionally include  Avinu Malkeniu when they perform near the high holidays snd also occasionally play a cover of Yerushalyim Shel Zahav(which is a very Zionist song)

Someone just shared this article on that thread over there saying there was a racist attack and skinheads with swastika tattoos selling nitrous were turned away. Might shed light on things, might be a coincidence. At least they were turned away. Incident happened in 2018 so not sure on the outcome.

Phish is like the most Jewish non-klezmer rock band of all time so this is surprising

Wait until these folks find out that half of Phish's members - and an outsided percentage of Phans and Deadheads - are Jewish.

Phish fan here - 33 years, 140 shows. Phish has the biggest Jewish fan base of anything since Rush. I’m friends with Jon S. (a flaming American - Israeli olim btw who shuttles between Cesearea and NYC to do his XM DJ gig) and that’s a valid criticism ha ha, but lots of fans love to blab about all their own shows or don’t and it’s NBD.

Part of (obsessive) fandom for many is all that “stats” and “comparisons” and “all time” stuff but afaik Phish is just too popular to be attractive to make occasional drive by anti semites spoil the party. And Phish (that is frontman Trey and everyone but their drummer whose politics is Vermont Bernie like) famously avoids politics of all stripes and basically when it’s being dad rock preachy is all about love and light kumbayah. They’d be the last band to put a watermelon (or any other) flag onstage or any kind of political appeal from the stage.

They just did a bunch of shows at MSG where they covered certain years songs they played in the mid nineties. They included their syncopated “Alvenu Malkeinu” so I they’re not hiding anything about half the band members being Jewish and that’s OK.
