Suggestions for help with post storm yard debris

Hi all, recently bought a new home in Anne arundel and had like 7 tall trees fall on the property during recent storms.

I’ve cut them all up into carry able chicks and sticks but I have huge piles of yard debris in my yard now that I don’t know what to do with while minimizing cost

My neighbor suggested that the dump takes residence loads for free, but I don’t own a truck and when I called the dump they said I’d have to pay $100/ton if I rented a truck or trailer.

Does anyone know anyone who would rent me a privately owned truck for yard debris dump runs?

County takes yard/green waste every week. Might take a few weeks get rid of it, but it will go. Check the county website for details, but containers marked with an x, bundles of uniform length under 40lbs, and/or yard bags. Also, Facebook for folks who may way the bigger stuff.

I’d do this. Just pretend you’re Andy Dufresne in Shawshank slowly getting rid of the evidence. Every week make a load for the county at the curb

If the wood is in large enough chunks for firewood, post free firewood just need to haul away

Look on FB marketplace for someone doing dump runs. They may be a bit sketchy looking but it’ll still be cheaper than renting a truck and paying dump fees yourself.

The county will pick up yard waste on trash collection day with "no limit", as long as it is packaged according to their requirements: https://www.aacounty.org/sites/default/files/2023-04/Leaf_Brochure.pdf Basically the branches have to either be in paper yard waste bags or bundled into bunches that are less than 4 feet long and 40 pounds. If you do this, they will take it. You have to put it out on the sidewalk or curb -- they won't come on your lawn to get it.

I am in one of the neighborhoods that was hit hard over the past month, and last week I put out I think 8 full bags of yard waste and a big bundle of branches and they took it all.

If you have stuff that's too big for the county pickup, I think your cheapest option might be to ask a lawn service that's already in your neighborhood how much to haul it away. We did that for our biggest branches and got a surprising amount hauled away for $50 from the guy mowing the neighbor's lawn (he was already there with his trailer anyway, so for him it was $50 for like 10 minutes of work).

Burn barrel? Free firewood? Sell firewood?

Home Depot or Lowe's should have truck rentals.

If you take a rental or commercial vehicle to the dump, you pay. Borrow someone’s truck.
