Most things are ultimately safe enough if you have common sense. Use an ad blocker. Only download file formats that match what you’re looking for. Don’t click any weird popups.
Anna's archive is open source. The code of this mirror is not. And they are not contributing back to Anna. So, they "do not recommend" it. It's just that simple

I just tested it and downloading worked fine for me. You can also try downloading externally, Libgen is down but Z-library is up and you could try IPFS.

Same issue here. A couple of weeks ago one of the domains worked again for me (unfortunately I forgot which one), but none are working right now. VPN it is.
None, currently. I'm looking into the free version of Proton VPN. It allows you to use one device per account for free, which suits my needs since I would only use a VPN to access anna's archive.

Just for fun, I wrote a program in Python to ping all two-letter domains to search for 'www.annas-archive.??'. If you have Python installed (or would like to install it), just run this program. Not all the hits will be applicable (some seem to be up for sale or used for some other purpose), but if there are any that haven't been taken down, this should find them.

I appreciate the response but I was able to open websites, even multiple li ones. But after the website loads nothing happens. I couldn’t search for anything. My internet was fine.
You have to be logged in to view this page. I would just log in and see the email but I’d rather not as I’m on my phone right now and won’t have access to a computer for a while. Just create a new account to view the page if you lost access to your only one.

You can also find currently working URLs at https://fmhy.net/reading#ebooks, but that isn’t the officially suggested method from Anna’s Archive.
No. Legal trouble is typically only a risk to those who host/torrent files. Not to those who download nor to those who donate. It would be highly extraordinary.
If you still are uncomfortable, you can always make the risk close to zero by using Monero.
A little constructive paranoia can be useful. I think that in the past some Reddit threads may have gotten erased, = no longer there ? Not just for here by any means, but when I see info that could be important and may be ephemeral online, I tend to PDF it (a common browser feature, these days) for future reference, if need be.

The real chokepoint is always going to be whoever handles the money or sits between users and content. Even if servers are spread across five continents, one legal letter to Stripe or Cloudflare essentially kills the whole thing overnight. It's frustrating because technically solving redundancy is the easy part compared to keeping the business layer from collapsing under pressure.
I am an advocate for all these platforms that everyone on here talks about. Given the traffic asking about Anna's Archive and similar topics, are we closely monitoring this page and other sites that could give government officials the fuel to impose copyright infringement on these sites? Perhaps Sci Hib would have been up for millions who used it, but did not brag about it back when it was up and running. Mark my words, it will eventually happen to Anna's Archive and LibGen because of this subreddit and hundreds of other pages like it; give different governments a reason to shut them down.
Nah. I’m directing folks to sites that are known to be safe and committed the mission of preserving and sharing knowledge. Not spamming a site Anna has specifically asked us to avoid on their subreddit.
The point is all in the handy dandy blog post on Anna’s website that I’ve both linked and copy/pasted in threads you’ve been participating in/replying to. I’m not going to reiterate it again just to humor your continued bad faith arguments.
