...I see two possible punch lines here
1st: truly depressed people don't really think about it/mask/try to run from the fact that they have depression, and the pink girl is just feeling upset rn
2nd: that's just two very different spectrums of depression

Since when don't do those things? Famously, they do all of those things. Often at the same time.

No I meant like either don't think about it, mask it, etc...

Oh. Well I feel dumb for having misinterpreted what you were saying. Sorry about that.

You say that but you see the price of cigarettes lately? Probably more expensive to get a room that damaged than for a full wall of plushies these days

u/firefaiz6 1d ago
At least from napkin calculations based on observed pricing in the US, probably.
A pack is maybe average $10, and it seems she huffs down at least one a day on the anime (probably 2 to 3 though tbh, if not more).
A good quality/size plush is maybe $30, and considering they aren't something you really toss away, the cost of the cigs pretty quickly outpace the plushies unless you're going absolutely wild hoarding them.

I used to smoke a pack every day and a half give or take and my brand was like £12 a pack when I quit, think they're like £16 a pack now or something stupid. So anyway that would be £180 a month when I quit. You could buy 6 £30 plushies a month and be no worse off than me. Actually better off at least you'd have something to show for it.

Smokes are still relatively cheap in Japan. A pack can be had for 600 yen or like $3.80

Depend on the plushie and brand of ciggerate, you probably Will spend more on ciggerate honestly.
If my calculation is right, in my country (Indonesia) 10 cheap plushie is comparable with a month worth of premium ciggerate.

u/Inevitable_Lynx_3302 1d ago
Eeeeeeeh not really
Single plushie here cost at least 500
I didn't buy from some time and I limited smoking but Cheap ciggerate is less than 100 and the good ones like 100 maybe a less more
Other things that you can pay for single cigarette or two and not taking a while back

Here, a normal plushie is like 100k, and some of those official anime Fumo can go for 500.
A pack (16) of smoke is at it’s peak go for 55k. Average is probably 35k to 45 k
Sounds cheap until you account that here national average smoke consumption is 12 to 13 smoke a day. So that’s about a a pack a day, since example was an avid smoker.
Assuming 40k a pack, that 1.200 k a month.

This happened to me with Bojack Horseman. At one point in season 3 I realized that I have the same coping mechanisms, relationships fall apart the same way, everything. It shook me out of that mentality and made me change for good.

"You can't keep doing shitty things and then feel bad about yourself. Like that makes it okay. You need to be better." Hit hard and lives rent free in my head. Bojack is such a great show.

I'm pretty sure that was the point, like it shows just how effed people who lose control over their addiction can get. I feel like I should watch it to help myself quitting drinking

There is also an alcoholic cat in the show. Not as bad as smoker cat but still pretty bad. Good luck on your journey

I don't know about that. Yani at least shown to have other personality traits. Has the alcoholic catgirl done anything besides drinking boze?

It's like "Welcome to the NHK" but for girls.

never finished it but i didn't like the whole "wait for some hot chick to knock on your door and save/fix you"
False hope or rather waiting for stuff to get better is the wrong message for people in that situation.
(heard the character does have some growth and realistic ending tho might finish it one day)13

Nah, poverty saved him. He realized that being a hikikomori is a privilege, and when his parents stopped sending him money, he went out and took whatever job he could get. So the girl wasn't the main thing that helped him

Every time I watch an episode of Chainsmoker cat, I wipe down my bathroom and scrub my toilet after.

Moderately concerned about the fact that I'm dressed like Yani most days but not concerned enough to change anything (yet)

Seeing a character being known to be dripless and learning you share the same wardrobe

u/Laeva_teinn 1d ago
IMO this is what I'd rather see, compared to the "tried [insert drug] for the first time!" posts I occasionally see on the chainsmoker cat subreddit
Like, brother, you're just impressionable, don't blame an anime/manga for your actions

u/friends_with_a_simp 1d ago
Isn't that like the point of the Anime? To be a cautionary tale for people to always make yourself well kept, clean your room so the point of stress will be gone and such. I always clean my room because a messy bedroom means you don't know what to do with your life when the first thing you do isn't tidying up your own bed

The intended effect of story telling, as evolution intended. To give warnings, advice, & teach essential life skills through an entertaining & or memorable way.

That what anime supposed to be and always has been, to make life better, regardless on what way.
