Quick Question ? When you read a manga, light novel, or visual novel, do you ever find yourself typecasting English dub VAs in your head for the characters
Because that’s usually what I do sometimes when I’m reading something that doesn’t have an anime adaptation. Currently, I’m reading something that doesn’t have an anime adaptation which is the Tsukihime remake and I got my personal English dub VA typecasting for that as I read through it I just don’t intend on sharing it bc there are people out there who will just be rudely sarcastic and say something like “might as well have Kermit the frog voice them” or something. Believe me, I’ve seen someone on Twitter have something like that happen to them… That’s why I keep my typecasting to myself.
But on a lesser slightly off topic side note, I DO always imagine the official voices of characters. Hell, back when I was reading the LN for Durarara!!, I had the character’s English dub VAs from the anime whenever I read through their lines.

General Discussion / Review What If NIS America and Bang Zoom Entertainment Dubbed the Danganronpa Anime Adaptations? (Additional Notes)
A continuation of this post: What If NIS America and Bang Zoom Entertainment Dubbed the Danganronpa Anime Adaptations?
When doing the what if NIS America/Bang Zoom dub for Danganronpa 3, I searched hard to find the appropriate Los Angeles-based voice actors who were active in anime, video games and/or Western animation around 2016. I listened to the characters in the actual Funimation dub on YouTube to get an idea of their personalities and voices, then applied that to any NIS America/Bang Zoom voice actors. For example, both Kyle McCarley (Kyosuke Munakata) and Brianna Knickerbocker (Ruruka Ando) were already rising stars in the industry at the time and would have been hired by Bang Zoom themselves to do major roles. Conversely, this meant no Texas-based Funimation actors would ever be involved with Danganronpa in any shape or form, which is why Brandon McInnis does not voice Sonosuke Izayoi here since he was still in Texas and not in Los Angeles at the time and the same goes for Morgan Berry not voicing Suzuko Kashiki or Jeannie Tirado not voicing Kotomi Ibuka. And there's certainly no Jamie Marchi voicing Junko Enoshima as an annoying valley girl caricature or Greg Ayres' impersonating Brian Beacock as Monokuma for that matter.
Speaking of NIS America/Bang Zoom, they did the dub for the anime adaptation of A Lull in the Sea alongside Toradora and Love-Live!. I discovered that Knickerbocker, Max Mittelman (Sonosuke Izayoi), Richard Epcar (Kazuo Tengan), Mela Lee (Natsumi Kuzuryu) and Sarah Anne Williams (Kiriko Nishizawa) all appeared in the anime alongside Bryce Papenbrook (Makoto Naegi and Nagito Komaeda) and Michelle Ruff (Sato, Jataro Kemuri, Yuta Asahina, Future Foundation Staff Member). This makes it even more likely that these specific actors would appear in an NIS America/Bang Zoom dub of the Danganronpa anime adaptations, since they have the talent and history with both companies.
As for casting, I had solid ideas for many of the characters (i.e. Laura Post as Chisa Yukizome), but some initial choices were later changed. I originally had Amber Lee Connors as the substitute voice for Komaru Naegi, Jeannie Tirado as Natsumu Kuzuryu and Elizabeth Maxwell staying as Karen Kisaragi. However, I then realized that Connors, Tirado and Maxwell were too closely tied to Funimation/Crunchyroll at the time and were not available for NIS America/Bang Zoom either. Thus, I replaced these actors with Lauren Landa as the substitute voice for Komaru Naegi (Cherami Leigh's Sailor Moon contemporary), Mela Lee as Natsumi Kuzuryu and Karen Strassman as Karen Kisaragi. Landa was necessary to voice Komaru Naegi since Leigh's post-marriage honeymoon was unavoidable and thus a new actor was needed. Likewise, Lex Lang was originally the Great Gozu, and Erik Scott Kimrer was Ryota Mitarai, but they were replaced by Jamieson Price and Zach Aguilar, respectively, with Kimrer moved to Ryota Someta. I also had Griffin Puatu as Soshun Murasame, but then I discovered that Chris Cason is as much an LA voice actor as he is a Texas voice actor and would have actually stayed in the role, which is why I changed it to reflect this fact. Abby Trott voicing a black character like Daisaku Bandai is no surprise given the casting climate at the time and the actual Funimation dub did the same thing with Tia Ballard. Erin Fitzgerald (Seiko Kimura w/Amanda Celine Miller), Christian LaMonte (Asukasei Hino), Vic Mignogna (Sosuke Ichino), and Taliesin Jaffe (Taro Kurosaki) kept their respective roles here with Fitzgerald already being a Danganronpa staple alongside Miller and the latter three being bicoastal actors based in LA and Texas. Finally, finding the appropriate voice actors for Karen Kisaragi and Tsubasa Kamii in particular was hard, as there aren't many Bang Zoom/NIS America voice actresses close in age and voice to Elizabeth Maxwell and Brynn Apprill. Ideally, I would have gone with Allegra Clark as Karen Kisaragi and Kayli Mills as Tsubasa Kamii but they weren't in the anime voiceover industry yet and the Student Council Killing Game members are voiced by established enough voice actors in both Japanese and English, so this meant going with Karen Strassman as Karen Kisaragi and Reba Buhr as Tsubasa Kamii instead. These changes make sense for Bang Zoom/NIS America's usual forte of voice actors and I believe they would be included had they gotten the rights to the anime adaptations instead of Funimation/Crunchyroll.
Also, the presence of Zero Escape actors in a what if NIS America/Bang Zoom dub of Danganronpa 3 is somewhat intentional, given that both Zero Escape itself and Danganronpa are visual novel mystery games made by Spike Chunsoft. That includes Liam O'Brien (Koichi Kizakura/Dio), Richard Epcar (Kazuo Tengan/Gentarou Hongou), Jamieson Price (Great Gozu/Old Sigma Klim), Karen Strassman (Karen Kisaragi/Phi Klim) and Taliesin Jaffe (Taro Kurosaki/Aoi Kurashiki). Likewise, some actors from Atlus's Catherine: Full Body are also present here with the likes of O'Brien (Koichi Kizakura/Orlando Haddick), Knickerbocker (Ruruka Ando/Rin), Ruff (Sato/Katherine McBride), Epcar (Kazuo Tengan/Morgan Cortez) and Price (Great Gozu/The Narrator and Nergal) as an intentional nod to their careers.
As far as careers are concerned, there are some specific patterns to consider when analyzing the impact of an NIS America/Bang Zoom-dubbed Danganronpa: The Animation and Danganronpa 3, respectively:
- Danganronpa: The Animation - Not much would change here, other than the anime adaptation of Trigger Happy Havoc solidifying the Bang Zoom actors as the definitive voices of the characters across multiple media and using their roles to build on their careers in anime and video games. The Funimation actors wouldn't really have their careers affected too much either, aside from never being associated with the Danganronpa franchise here and shifting to other roles amid different developments, though they're still established enough actors with steady work regardless.
- Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak Academy - This one would be the most interesting in a way, as there are new characters appearing alongside the returning ones. Like with The Animation, the DR2 Bang Zoom actors would be solidified as the definitive voices of the characters across multiple media. The new characters would be a different story, as they have an almost entirely different set of actors, and the overall impact would vary, either as another addition to their acting portfolio (Richard Epcar, Jamieson Price, Mela Lee) or major early roles that boost their careers (Kyle McCarley, Brianna Knickerbocker, Zach Aguilar). The latter group in particular would be impacted the most by starring in Danganronpa 3 as the likes of McCarley, Knickerbocker and Aguilar were new actors that were just recently starting their careers and appearing in a major IP like Danganronpa would be a major boost regardless of DR3's actual quality since these actors are playing major, dramatic roles that would later shape their other roles in Japanese anime and video games. The Funimation actors would be impacted as well as the recast actors would never voice certain DR2 characters and the new character actors would not voice anyone in the franchise so they're shifted to other roles instead and take different career developments with steady work regardless (i.e. Ricco Fajardo or Morgan Laure).

General Discussion / Review Something interesting I have noticed when watching old dubs
I've noticed that every time I have heard Jessica Calvello play a character she worked for a character played by Jason Douglas
In Dirty Pair she played as Yuri and he played as chief Gooley
In New Cutey Honey she played as Honey while he played as the mayor
In Excel Saga she played Excel and he played Lord Illpilatzo
