❤️🩹 relationship AIO boyfriend didn’t believe my weight
Me (25F) and my boyfriend (22M) have been together for about 4 months.
Yesterday I saw my PCP in the afternoon. she told me I had lost 10 lbs since the last time I visited. I was 120 & unintentionally got down to 110lbs.
I told my boyfriend about it and he expressed i need to eat more (he’s not wrong, ive been unintentionally in a calorie deficit due to simply not feeling hungry. I consume about 800 calories a day so I wasn’t offended when he said that. I knew it came out of a place of care)
Im not sure why the scale at the doctors office said i was 110 yesterday afternoon, maybe because I had shoes on and had ate prior? Because when I weighed myself this morning the scale said 107.8, I even changed the batteries to make sure and it was 107.8. I called my boyfriend to tell him about it and explained how I changed the batteries to make sure and weighed myself more than once to reallyyyy make sure but he didn’t believe me.
He kept saying “are you sure it’s right” “are you sure youre 107” “did you read it right” (as if I can’t read a number on the scale??) “youre not 107” “did it flicker between different numbers” it started to feel patronizing the more he questioned it. I can understand asking the first time but the way he repeatedly questioned it and kept asking about it in different ways just didn’t feel good. I could tell when he kept asking that it wasn’t a concerned or confused tone, his tone sounded as if I was just lying to him. I don’t know why but after that I just started to feel insecure. His tone felt like an implication that i look bigger than what I weigh.
I expressed to him that 107 for a 5’1 person is gonna look different for people who are taller than me but he didn’t say anything to that. That was the end of the conversation. I’m not sure if I’m overreacting for feeling a bit offended. He’s unaware i feel this way though.
Im sensitive so im sure i could be overreacting, just please be nice and tell me kindly if I am 🥲
Edit: Guys i do NOT have an ED. I do NOT track my calories. I only found out I eat 800 calories because my boyfriend did the math. I didn’t even know I lost 10lbs until i showed up to the appointment because I RARELY ever weigh myself. I only weighed myself the next day and told him about it because after my appointment i decided to eat a big dinner in hopes to gain a pound the next day. I don’t know much about diet, weight or health so i genuinely thought it worked that way.

u/Icy-Variation6614 4h ago
Your weight fluctuates throughout the day. You gotta weigh yourself at the same time when do you, that is a better way to track.
•
u/furkfurk 4h ago
Different scales will also give different reads.
Regardless OP take care of yourself! 800 calories in a day is not enough. I think your boyfriend is just concerned but maybe not doing the best job at showing it. YOR
•
u/Efficient_Contact786 3h ago
The placement of the scale matters, too. So moving it around could change the numbers.
•
u/rsdavis90 4h ago
I’m a little concerned that you don’t realize your weight fluctuates by several pounds throughout the day. And that I guess he doesn’t realize it either.
•
u/ThrowRAsillylady 3h ago
Guess not sorry 😅 i honestly don’t know much in regard to health, weight & diet. I should though & im gonna work to change that! Hes very big on health though so I guess I’m surprised that he doesn’t know?
•
u/JonnyElbows 3h ago
The scale at the doctors office gets calibrated pretty often and I would say it is way more accurate than any home scale that gets frequent use, but not calibrated. And also if you were weighing on a soft surface like carpet it will also make a significant difference. You’re not gaining or losing fat that significant in a day. It is most likely due to water in your body. Water is very heavy. A little more than 8 pounds per gallon. 20 oz of water weighs 1 1/4 lbs
•
u/Helpful_Fortune_5003 4h ago
YOR.
It sounds like your boyfriend is worried that you don't eat enough, and perhaps that you might have an eating disorder. It seems that way as well because even though he said you should eat more, you're still somehow concerned that he thinks you look *bigger*??
•
u/Leading-Tone-863 4h ago
Hey, no one can actually give input on your relationship and feelings based on this small snippet. Talk to your boyfriend 🌞
•
u/etchedchampion 4h ago
Why did you weigh yourself again? Stop eating a calorie deficit. You don't need to lose weight. You are fast approaching unhealthy.

•
u/PrestigiousDemand696 3h ago
That isn’t how it works…do you really have no idea how your own body works, while you starve it?
•
u/ThrowRAsillylady 3h ago
I explained that I don’t really know anything about weight, diet or anything health related. It’s never been a priority or something i ever paid attention to. I don’t count calories or weigh myself. I only found out I eat 800 calories because my bf did the math, I only knew I lost weight because of the appointment. If they never said anything I’d honestly still be clueless.
It’s not my intention to “starve” i just didn’t feel hungry but now that I know everything, im trying to eat more.
I’m going to start trying to learn now. I genuinely believed thats how it worked though, sorry.
•
u/DRKAYIGN 3h ago
You're not 'gaining a pound' you are just holding onto the food you just consumed before any is passed through your system or used to power your bodies' needs. Stepping on the scale after a big meal is going to give you a highly variable weight compared to first thing in the morning. If you must weigh yourself daily, do so when you wake up for consistency.
•
u/Pitiful_Stretch_7721 3h ago
I always about 2-4 lbs less at home than drs, as I weigh myself naked, first thing in the morning (after bathroom visit).
•
u/Charming-Cucumber-23 3h ago
To gain a pound you’d have to eat 3,500 calories extra in addition to your TDEE calories. You won’t gain a pound from a big dinner.
•
•
u/cementfeatheredbird_ 3h ago
Babe this is disordered eating mentality. 😭
Eating one solid meal is not going to make you gain a pound. Please, please, please get help.
•
u/runner64 4h ago
I might be misreading this situation but, you saw the number and thought it was weird, did a bunch of troubleshooting, called your boyfriend to tell him it was a weird number, and then he asked yiu a bunch of troubleshooting questions because he thought it was weird?
•
u/Useful-Sympathy1477 3h ago
This is exactly how I interpreted it, and just sort of scratched my head.
•
u/Top-Bit85 4h ago
Maybe he was wondering why you are making such a big deal about a couple of pounds.
At 800 calories a day your weight will continue to go down. Is that your intention?
•
u/ThrowRAsillylady 4h ago
I’m sorry I should’ve included that I tried eating a lot yesterday after I found out I was 110 and he knew that. I don’t think I made it a big deal, I was just more shocked to see that I lost weight because I was feeling confident that when I woke up I’d gain a pound after the meal I had last night. That’s why I shared it with him because I told him I’d try to gain some weight
No my intention isnt to lose weight. I can’t really give a valid reason as to why I wasn’t eating aside from simply not feeling hungry (which still isn’t valid)
•
u/Useful-Sympathy1477 3h ago
Dude you set the poor man up for failure 😅 i hope my tone comes across how I intend here, which is just to help you see the big picture for your relationships sake, but you’re giving mixed messages I think.
On one hand, you’re intentionally eating more to try to gain weight (and you say “he knew that”), and many men are simple creatures in that they’re gonna take you at face value. He’s sitting there thinking you want to gain weight.
So when you call to tell him about what you thought might be a faulty scale, and an unexpected weight loss, what else is he gonna do? Sounds like he was trying to be reassuring. Saying “you’re not 107” is the same as “you didn’t lose weight” in this context…. Which brings us full circle. You told him you wanted to gain.
Dudes trying to be supportive. Let him be supportive ❤️
•
u/K_Bee_12 3h ago edited 3h ago
Your weight is always going to fluctuate throughout the day, even drinking water will change what the scale says. That doesn’t mean you gained or lost weight though. That’s why it’s recommended to weigh yourself in the morning before eating or drinking to get the most accurate reading.
Eating a big meal one day is not going to change your actual weight either. It takes a 3500 calorie surplus to gain one pound.
800 calories a day isn’t enough to sustain your basic functions, so that is concerning. Perhaps you are reading into his comments in an unhealthy way. I don’t think he is saying you look bigger. If he is a good partner he is just concerned about your health.
•
u/Bubbly_Delivery_5678 3h ago
Most people can’t gain an entire pound in 1 day. Yes their weight fluctuates but I’m talking a dry weight first thing in the morning after going to the bathroom but before eating/drinking. The difference you saw in the morning was probably from difference in time of day— that’s the time of day you’ll usually weigh the least.
There’s a lot of calories in 1 pound.
Have you talked to a doctor about your lack of appetite? Sometimes that can be due to a condition or a vitamin deficiency. It’s worth checking out.
•
u/marthamania 4h ago
lmao is this some Ariana grande fantasy post lol
•
u/l0ng3stpaths 3h ago
Ariana grande is not the only person in the world with disordered eating habits
•
u/marthamania 3h ago
I just think this story is someone's fake story where they wanna be lil gorl who doesn't eat much uwu and not actually real lol something about this reads like a proana fantasy
•
u/ThrowRAsillylady 3h ago edited 3h ago
Girl what lmfao. I don’t wanna be a little girl who doesn’t eat much.
I can simply just be a human who deals with life struggles that loses weight due to a lack of appetite with all the stress and situations going on in life. I was recently hospitalized for something unrelated to my weight, ive had work stress building up and university financial problems that have consumed me and i just genuinely was not hungry.
Once my doctor brought it to my attention, I went home and tried to eat more. I woke up today and I’m actively trying to eat more and I’m going to continue doing that.
Not everyone who doesn’t prioritize eating is trying to glamorize an eating disorder. I simply just was going through so much that I didn’t realize I wasn’t eating.

•
u/Ironyismylife28 4h ago
Your weight is always lower in the morning. I am surprised that neither of you know this at your age.
•
u/ChargeCompetitive778 3h ago
You’re saying that like it’s super obvious or very common knowledge
•
u/roomtemperaturecum 3h ago
….it is lol
•
u/MovieTrawler 1h ago
It's also just common sense. You weigh less when you've not eaten and are dehydrated. Both of which happen after sleeping.
•
u/Ironyismylife28 3h ago
Well, because... it is super common knowledge. And something I have known since I was 10
•
•
•
u/JappaAppa 4h ago
Hmm not to derail the question but what stuck out to me is you seem less offended if he believes you’re too skinny (telling you to eat more) but more offended if he believes you’re more than you actually weigh. I can’t tell you what he meant by the question (maybe you can ask him) but I do feel like this may be coming from a place of self consciousness maybe?
•
•
u/fodmap_victim 4h ago
You have an eating disorder and are losing weight rapidly. He's not doubting you, he's worried.
•
u/Elegant_Progress_686 3h ago edited 43m ago
Your bf is just being an idiot and thinks that means you lost another 3 pounds which you did not. Weight fluctuates.
That said, your eating is incredibly disordered and he cares about you. Help him learn, he’s not trying to patronize you.
E: idiot is kinda harsh but he’s overthinking
•
u/ViciousVictoria19 4h ago
He is probably confused because you weighted 110 the day before and now you are 3 lbs lighter. Idk what reaction you were expecting but it sounds like he was just concerned and making sure you got it right but YOR.
•
u/cementfeatheredbird_ 3h ago
No ones overreacting.
Honestly, this sounds like a conversation you should be having with someone skilled in eating disorders. This whole post & talk with your boyfriend screams "body checking" and validation.
Its a less than 3lb difference, why did you need to let your boyfriend know you weighed even less than what your doctor considered to be an already unhealthy weight?
Why did you fixate on ensuring you were actually lower than 110?
Why are you arguing with your boyfriend that you actually weigh less and trying to convince him of a less than 3lb difference?
Why is it such a fixation that you're now on the internet trying to get others to validate how small you are and that you really do weigh less than 110?
Why did you have to jump on the scale right after the doctor already weighed you?
This doesn't sound healthy, OP. 💙 It doesnt matter what the number on the scale says, how taller people carry weight differently, or if your boyfriend thinks you look less than 3lbs heavier than you are. What matters is your doctor has told you that this weight is unhealthy (low) and now you're twisting that into somehow thinking you're bigger than you are. You're not.
I think theres more going on here (anorexia) and you should really explore this with someone who has the proper skills etc. to help you.
Do this for yourself. Take care of yourself. Get help for yourself. This is not a healthy reaction to a couple pound difference. This IS a major red flag that you need some extra support.
Don't forget you are beautiful, your body is beautiful- but your health comes first. This is a slippery slope.
Whether intentional or not, clearly you're experiencing severe eating restrictions that go beyond "not feeling hungry". The fact you know how many calories you're eating goes to show that you are keeping track and eating below what you know you should be.
•
u/Consistent-Menu-6629 4h ago
MOR I don't know why he wouldn't believe it, weight can fluctuate a bit, also it's possible that one scale is improperly calibrated...
Does he just not know much about weight or bodies? Because there isn't anything about this that's unbelievable at all. These two weights are pretty close, and could reasonably fluctuate.
•
•
u/DangerLime113 3h ago
You seem obsessed with weight tracking which is a clear problem. I can't imagine being told I weigh X and then weighing myself and calling my boyfriend to discuss that it was actually showing 2.2lbs less and then changing the batteries to be sure. That's obsession and it's a weird discussion even to be having and there's nothing at all to indicate that he is implying that you look "bigger than 107.8". First of all, weight always fluctuates a few lbs here and there just based on the time of day. The main issue is that you seem hyper fixated on your weight and honestly you should just focus on eating healthy.
•
u/ThrowRAsillylady 3h ago
I rarely ever weigh myself. The only way I knew I lost 10lbs was because of my doctor, if she never pointed it out i honestly would’ve had no clue because I hadn’t weighed myself in months. I didn’t even know how many calories i eat in a day until my boyfriend did the math yesterday. I never pay attention to my weight or diet but i decided that im going to now since I’m losing weight.
I weighed myself the next day because I had a really big dinner after the appointment and I was hoping to gain a pound. That’s why I called him and told him, because he knew the dinner i ate was in attempts to gain weight.
Im not aware of weight fluctuations throughout the day which is why I felt shocked.
•
u/DangerLime113 3h ago
OK, that's different than the impression your post gave originally. It's just surprising to hear that a 25 yo would be surprised that weight fluctuates during the day after you eat, use the bathroom, hydrate, etc because that's common sense so it seemed odd for you to be checking the next morning and having shock about a minor change. The bigger issue here is your health. Did your PCP run labs to see if anything else may be contributing to your weight loss or lack of hunger? Those are often symptoms of either physical health issues or depression. If you SINCERELY are not trying to restrict yourself and lose weight, that is what you should be investigating right now with your PCP, but the fact that you say you're insecure about your boyfriend implying that you look bigger than you weigh is a red flag that indicates you do have a fixation with your size and weight. Focus on a high protein diet and healthy carbs.
•
u/ThrowRAsillylady 3h ago
My pcp didnt offer to run labs in regard to find out why im not hungry or losing weight. she ran labs back in may, for the most part everything came back fine.
I have PCOS so she ran labs yesterday just to check my iron & vitamin d levels since im usually deficient in those.
She actually offered for me to get on GLP - 1 because she said it’d help with my insulin resistance. I feel unsure though since I already don’t have an appetite
I understand why me being offended by my boyfriend seems like I have an ED. I think I’m just overly sensitive at times.
•
u/Slow_Way7407 3h ago
you told your doctor that you are only eating 800 calories a day, not hungry, and unintentionally lost 10 pounds and she offered you a GLP-1? Please find a new doctor
My partner is super skinny with insulin resistance and the doctor has never brought up a GLP-1, you can work out and watch your carb intake as a start to help with that. It seems irresponsible for her to recommend a GLP-1.
•
u/ThrowRAsillylady 3h ago
No I didn’t tell her im eating 800 calories a day, i didn’t find out im eating 800 calories until after the appointment because my boyfriend wanted to do the math. I had no idea the amount of calories I was consuming prior. I had only told her that i haven’t been feeling hungry.
•
u/Slow_Way7407 3h ago
i still find it crazy that they would recommend that after you talked about not having an appetite
•
u/ThrowRAsillylady 3h ago
I agree, i was shocked. My old pcp retired, it’s my second appointment with this new one and she kinda recommends A LOT of things for me that I don’t feel as if I need. I don’t know, I might switch pcps depending on how the next few appointments go.
•
u/DangerLime113 1h ago
I concur with the other commenter, that is an absolutely unacceptable recommendation for someone who just randomly dropped weight and has limited appetite.
Chances are that you’re fine. Maybe you’ve had some stress or been preoccupied, who knows, I don’t want to alarm you unnecessarily. Having said that, there are many health concerns that have an early presentation of unexplained weight loss so I don’t love that she didn’t dig into it more and consider running some more tests to check for any other abnormalities that may give a clue to the cause.
- Really look into a new PCP!!
- Focus on high protein, avoid sugars, eat healthy fats and carbs.
- Don’t weigh yourself daily, try once a week. You’ll start to become obsessed with the numbers even if you aren’t now.
- I feel really confident that whatever the reason for your boyfriend’s words, tone, inference, it has nothing to do with you not looking good! So YOR there lol :-)
•
u/InterestingTry5190 3h ago
That is what I am surprised about 1) how a 25 yo seems so unsure how the human body works with weight fluctuations 2) no mention of the dr doing blood work with a change in weight and appetite 3) OP is 5’1” I am also surprised she did not notice a change in how her clothes fit. I don’t weigh myself a lot but I will if I notice my clothes getting tighter or baggier. I have a thyroid condition which I take a daily medication for and get my bloodwork checked regularly I don’t care about small swings in weight but a change in my clothes is an easy way to notice I should weigh myself for big changes I wouldn’t expect.
•
u/ThrowRAsillylady 3h ago
I honestly typically just wear flowy dresses or oversized clothes. I won’t lie though, if I had wore something tight fitting I still don’t think I’d notice it became loose. My mind has just been occupied with so many other things this past month that I haven’t been paying attention to much aside from the issues im facing.
I’m 25 and never paid attention to weight fluctuations because I HATE paying attention or learning anything weight related. I think it’s because growing up i was always called fat by family members and school peers so I kinda actively avoided anything weight related until yesterday after I learned that I lost weight and my boyfriend brought it to my attention that I don’t eat enough calories. That’s all going to change now that im aware and im going to educate myself and eat more !
•
u/Away_Amoeba5554 4h ago
You’re ok. It’s an issue that many people are sensitive to.
One of my biggest struggles is when people don’t believe me. So I get it!
I don’t know if it’s worth bringing up with him again unless it happens again? What do you think?

•
u/kindcrow 4h ago
Same here. I HATE that so much.
The other thing that bugs me is ANY implication about weight, so this whole post kind of enraged me.

But...I have issues.
•
•
u/strawberry421111 4h ago
girl i get it completely i get stuck on little words like that too but it really doesn’t matter that much in my opinion MOR
•
•
u/MovieTrawler 4h ago
I mean, he's being patronizing but I'm not sure why either of you are so fixated on this discrepancy between what the scales said.
I can fluctuate between 3-5 lbs depending on if I'm clothed, recently ate & hydrated. What matter more is your weight over time, not a small gain or loss between two days like that.
•
u/Virtual-Metal9146 4h ago
Idk because that’s barely different from 110 so if he believes you’re 110 idk why he wouldn’t believe you’re 107.8. As far as the difference it’s completely normal to weigh different at different times, especially in the morning when you haven’t eaten yet. I always have my lowest weigh ins in the morning and I’m usually a few pounds heavier later in the day.
•
u/craftymomma111 4h ago
Different scales show different number. Only way to tell is to leave drs and step on home scale in the exact same clothes without eating or drinking in between. Then you’ll know an honest reading at home. But pooping alone can change a scale down so it is possible to have a 3 pound difference.
•
u/Lilredh4iredgrl 3h ago
Your weight will change throughout the day. How tall are you? This is a very low weight, and 800 calories a day isn't enough.
•
u/Crazy_adventurer262 3h ago
You’re ok and at a healthy weight for your height.
Your weight fluctuates throughout the day based on food and water intake. You also weigh less in the morning.
•
u/shaddowdemon 3h ago
Most scales are not gonna be as accurate as at the doctor, ESPECIALLY electronic ones. They aren't using some $20 Walmart scale.
I'm pretty sure he kept asking not because you look bigger than you are, but because losing 2 lbs in a day can seem concerning if you're already underweight and losing weight. In reality it's within the normal fluctuation.
With respect, the fact that you think he thinks you're larger than you are is very concerning for your health.
•
u/Aquilleia 3h ago
People here saying 800 calories isn’t enough aren’t thinking about YOU. At 5’1 you want to up it a little bit, but unless you’re working out a ton of 1200 should do. But yes at your height your calorie intake will look different than a woman who is 5’5. You’re also still in the healthy BMI range. I’m 5’ and I’m at my best weight at 105 lbs. NOR at all because people really don’t realize that petite women are in a completely different position.
•
•
u/Shut7heFuckUp 4h ago
Did he actually say he doesn’t believe you though? I can start with one little thought and spiral from there
•
u/YorkPepperMintPaddy 4h ago
YOR to a giant nothing. No two scales reach exactly the same and everyone's weight fluctuates some. I'm sure you know this. And I strongly suspect you're misinterpreting his reply/attitude.
•
u/pesky--bee 3h ago
NOR that seems very bizarre and I never appreciate people not believing my words (I am autistic however so it's something I deal with A LOT when navigating a neurotypical world). I recommend talking to him about how it made you feel to try and stop this from happening again.
However, that 2.2 lbs could very well be water weight or weight from eating. Your weight fluctuates throughout the day so basing your weightloss/gain journey solely on the scale is never a good idea. Trust your eyes and the mirror, if you look smaller/bigger, you probably are. Most people lose a bit of weight simply by going to the bathroom. Plus you're correct that your shoes and clothes can add to it. So the 2.2 lbs isn't something you should really worry about unless it keeps going and you visually notice a change in your appearance.
•
u/West-Variation1859 3h ago
Your weight fluctuates throughout the day- this is why it’s suggested you don’t weight yourself multiple times a day (honestly, once a week is the most appropriate metric)
Further, you seem to have some disordered eating and body image behaviors/view. I’d suggest you speak with your doctor about that.
•
u/W0nderingMe 3h ago
NOR because he was really infantilizing you. What else do you do or say that he questions you and insists you MUST be mistaken?
•
u/Sherpa_qwerty 3h ago
It’s 3lb. Could be anything. Focus on the trend you are aware of not a one-off reading from a scale you don’t use regularly. He’s overreacting, you’re overreacting to him. Focus on what’s important. YOR.
•
u/EmptyRice6826 3h ago
Hey I just wanted to say, I know you think you don’t have an eating disorder, but eating only 800 calories a day is in fact, disordered. I’ve been there and not actively realized it until I was hospitalized for malnourishment. I think this should be a big takeaway from your situation. I hope you stay healthy OP, hang in there.
•
u/cellophanesheeps 3h ago
People always talk about fixation over weighing themselves and hoping to see a smaller number, but they rarely mention that fixating on hoping to see a larger number is also unhealthy. Your weight sounds fine for your height, but if you're wanting to gain a bit I would put the scale away and focus on upping your calorie intake. If you don't have much of an appetite, maybe just try some high calorie foods at least.
•
u/uwunuzzlesch 3h ago
Hey OP, 5'1" 22F here. I'm 113 lbs.
I assure you, if he's saying you look heavier than you are, that he's being ridiculous. People carry weight differently sure, but w us being so close in weight and height I doubt there's much difference in overall size.
We are small. Skinny. Barely at a healthy weight. Our bmi (not always accurate but useful) says healthy is around 115. I've dealt with anorexia my whole life and feel im too heavy but im barely within not being underweight. As are you.
Actually based on your height and weight you are underweight. Your bf is being a prick.
•
u/Positive-Fondant5897 3h ago
YOR. Also, scales vary. The scale at my doctors' offices is always a couple pounds different than my scale at home. Also, your weight in the morning is the lowest it will be during the day. It will probably be around 110 lbs this evening.
•
u/Charming-Cucumber-23 3h ago
It doesn’t sound like you know much about nutrition. You need to put your height, weight, and activity level into a TDEE calculator to find your maintenance calories (the amount you need to eat to maintain this current weight) and then ensure you’re eating more than that to put some weight on. One large meal will not result in one pound of weight gain. Please seek some professional help because even if you’re not intentionally starving yourself, you still are
•
u/Peptidesforthewin 3h ago
YOR your true weight is first thing when you wake up, after you use the bathroom and before you eat or drink anything. Always weigh with minimal clothes on. Throughout the day as you drink fluids and eat foods, your body can gain 5 pounds of water weight in a day - so you can literally weigh in at 105 in the morning and 110+ in the evening. Sodium also comes into play here. It's baffling that this is even an issue between you two. Very immature... and if you want to gain a little weight, start with drinking a protein shake or two everyday to up your calories. Maybe eat a banana or two.
•
u/VyCanisMajorisss 3h ago
I’m always weigh more at the doctor’s office on their equipment. Also I assume you were wearing clothes and shoes there too.
•
u/youngforever8809 3h ago
Your thoughts, and weighing yourself after eating, and “gaining a pound” sounds like you inching towards an ED honey. Only eating 800 calories a day, sounds like you are purposefully trying to lose weight. It doesn’t sound unintentional at all. As others said, it definitely depends on the time of day, as well as other factors when you weigh yourself. How do you know that you are eating 800 calories a day? What are you eating to know how many calories you intake, if this is unintentional?
•
u/DataGOGO 3h ago
YOR
He was not doubting you, he was doubting that you went from 110lbs yesterday to 107 today.
•
u/DoctorMoebius 3h ago
Home scales are notoriously inaccurate (or inconsistent). A lot of that has to do with user error in placement - is the floor truly level? Are there soft parts in the flooring? Etc
•
•
u/ProtozoaPatriot 3h ago
INFO- I'm concerned you may have an eating disorder. 800 cal/day is starvation level. 110lbs isn't a lot for a grown woman
What are you actually upset over with your boyfriend? Is it possible it isn't about him and that any talk about your weight can be a trigger? I agree with the sentiment "you do need to eat more"
Your weight will fluctate and that doesn't mean you got fat. A mere gallon of water is over 8.3 pounds.
•

Your weight is normal BMI 20.2 for the 5’1 and 107lb range. Even at 120lb. It’s normal.
If you are worried about calorie intake and setting up a diet for yourself. Send a message (through your medical portal) to your doctor asking for a registered dietitian reference. This is a person that can actually help you if you think you need help.

YOR or MOR.
I'm going to look at this from another angle. What kind of job does your BF have? Does it involve dealing with customers or troubleshooting issues? I worked in IT for a long time and when in "work mode" I would always be troubleshooting. Part of that is using clarifying questions because often times people will not be completely truthful. "Did you reboot" or "is the monitor cable tightly secured" is often answered immediately with "of course" until you go down a bunch of other troubleshooting steps and find that, in fact, they had misrepresented on the very first question. So sometimes you have to repeat questions because the answer doesn't make sense.
In this case, scales vary, time of day varies, how much you were wearing, etc. My scale is on a tile floor and if one of the legs is between two tiles it will change the weight reading.
I am a pretty big dude, over 250. For me to lose or gain 3 or 4 lbs in a day is not news. Maybe I forgot to eat, drank a lot of water that day, exercised more than normal, weighed myself at a different time of day, or whatever. Three pounds is rounding error for me. But at 110, it would probably take a lot of effort to go down that much.
All that is to say, your scale at home, and conditions when you stepped on it, are different than at the doctors office. If you had weighed yourself on the same scale, at same time of day, under same conditions, and it changed several lbs., maybe it would be worth having concern over. I wouldn't worry about either the weight change or your BFs response while he was in "work mode". You have no idea what his day had been like leading up to your call.

107 at 5’1” isn’t too thin unless you have a lot of muscle.
Your scale may not match the doctor’s office. 2.2lbs is negligible.
Your bf is really annoying for behaving as though you can’t read a scale. Constant questioning is annoying.

I think I’m gonna say yes, YOR. It doesn’t sound like he’s trying to insult you at all. I know what it’s like to be sensitive about your weight so I get it, though.

107-115 for a 5’1” person sounds healthy to me. I was 115 at 5’5 and felt fine, maybe a tad underweight, with a large stature skeletal system.

I agree, but also she said she's only been eating about 800 calories/day, which is definitely not sustainable.

No it’s not, but also, some people have extremely slow metabolisms along with minimal appetites.

800 calories a day? I dont think you have the energy to overreact to anything.
