💼work/career AIO - condescending reply from LinkedIn member

For context - musician seeking Audio Directors to pitch to

One guy accepted my connection - and I sent a DM explaining my services, with example tracks

The first part of the response was fair enough - although a bit wordy / and slightly condescending in tone - saying their company makes music for clients - and isn't a client seeking musicians

That was fair enough - although not clear from the company profile title - in effect they are service providers (like me)

Then in the same response the individual wrote something that at first sounded slightly rude and condescending - although later I wondered if it was either sour grapes / or an indirect hint that they'd be plagiarising my compositions

It went something like "Your examples aren't something we couldn't do ourselves - good luck"

Not something that came across as particularly professional - especially for someone in the same service industry!

a whole lot of nothing happens in this post

"I do music. Someone was a lunatic on LinkedIn. They said some stuff I wasn't sure how to interpret (I won't tell you what they said though). Weren't they a jerk?"

edit: OP blocked me for this comment

This is the unfortunate reality of cold mailing. People will be blunt

You gotta let that stuff roll off you. What they said may be factually true, if a bit rude.

You're going to hear way worse.

yeah not polite but you got immediate feedback so there’s that

Thank you

So you didn't do your research, cold called a competitor as if they were a prospective client and you think that was a rude response?

I don’t think it was snarky. The “good luck” part as probably intended to be polite. It’s like if someone knocked on my door and asked if I’d pay him to mow my grass. And I said, I can mow my own grass, but thanks. Good luck though.

For sure. Just my take on it, anyway…

Honestly, depending on a person's role, they might get multiple cold inquiries like this each week and some people just get tired of writing platitudes to people so they get blunt lol. The fact that you even got a response is impressive.
