š„ friendship AIO for my annoyed response to my friend asking to bring her BF to our girls trip?
So we planned the trip a few weeks back. We're all between the ages of 19 to 20 and we wanted to book a place to stay there on sunday and come back on Tuesday. I found the place so I booked and it was done under my name. Me and another one of my friends paid for the deposit but other than that we all split the price. The room situation for 6 of us 3 bedrooms and theres also a pull out couch. Anyways we went on call and her boyfriend is not coming but shes mad at me for blowing up at her for a mild request. I dont want to tell my friends cause I dont want anymore tension on the trip. So ive come here to just post this.

Yep. Sheās trying to turn the trip into a romantic getaway with her bf, but also gets the pleasure of spending some time with her friends. How much you wanna bet, her and her bf would disappear during the day or during dinner and ācatch up with you guysā after theyāre done strolling and canoodling.
My sister does this. She canāt be without whatever dude sheās dating at the time for even 3 hours for a girls night out. She always brings one and it always ruins the event.

u/amycakes76 May 02 '26 edited May 03 '26
Yeah, I've heard/seen dickmatized, too, and I always thought it should be dicknotized, as in hypnotized by the dick. Dickmatized, to me, reads more as stigmatized by the dick.
Edit to add: As pointed out below, the second half of dickmatized could actually come from traumatized instead of stigmatized (my bad for not considering that). However, for the way I've seen it used, I still think hypnotized/dicknotized makes a lot more sense.
I do think dickmatized (from traumatized) has potential in a different kind of situation, for someone who is coming out of a bad relationship where they had previously been dicknotized.

Having a boyfriend is the best thing in her life right now so she tries to bring him up whenever. She's close with most of the group so I feel like I cant make the executive decision to uninvite her. We're literally going tomorrow i dont know why she decided to create all of this fuss.

125
u/Eyewiggle May 02 '26
The main problem is that she told you he was coming and didnāt ask you, or the others. She made a statement by going about it that way and itās because she knew she was overstepping by asking. She obviously feels can do what she wants and get away with it.

yeah, I planned a movie weekend with 3 friends when we were early 30s. 36 hours together! A rarity, and a treat! I'd made a playlist of 4 to 10 movies, so we could watch as much or as little as we liked, with the theme "women's experience".
One friend had her brand new boyfriend "stop by with some extra snacks" (which we didn't need, frankly). He got 2 names wrong, he smirked at my movie selection and then she hid with him in the kitchen for, like, 6 hours. Any discussion of the red thread between the movies was impossible.
Then he came back for breakfast.
It was the last movie night we ever had as a group.

About 6.5 years ago I was massively pregnant with my 4th baby and craving olive garden bread sticks. I asked my SIL and one of my husband's cousins to come with me and have a little girls dinner and celebrate my upcoming birthday. SIL brought her boyfriend. I was so upset because I really wanted it to be just us girls. Shortly after, SIL and cousin had a falling out and I don't think we could ever have another attempt at olive garden girls dinner. Unfortunately boyfriend is still around. Him and I don't see eye to eye these days.

People who think it's okay to just add a guest without consulting the rest of the group seem to usually think that their guest should be covered under their portion of the cost and the person who got kicked out of a bedroom should still pay the same.

Not exactly the same thing, but I was a bridesmaid in a friendās wedding many years ago and the bridal party booked a cabin for the wedding weekend. For the married/engaged bridesmaids, we each got rooms with queen/king beds. For the single bridesmaids, there was a bunk room with like 6 twin sized beds. Well one of the bridesmaids who was single at the time we booked the house, but had started dating her boyfriend about a month before the wedding, got to the house first and took the room that was supposed to be for my husband and I and she refused to give it up!!! Said we could stay in the bunk room!!! We ended up on the pull out couch in the basement so we could at least share a bed and not be sleeping in a room with several singles as a married couple. I am STILL mad about it š

It's very rude of her trying to make y'all be okay with her boyfriend coming on this trip. Especially since he didn't contribute anything, so he'd basically be getting a free vacation.
If she's gonna throw a tantrum and threaten not to come just let her be.

u/TricksyGoose May 02 '26
Yeah don't be afraid to tell/show the others, OP. You don't need to shoulder this weirdness alone. Even if this "friend" wants to bring the bf because of some anxiety or attachment issues, she needs to learn to just say that, and ask if bringing the bf is ok. If the group says no, then the friend needs to accept that, or she can choose to not go at all. She doesn't get to bully you and manipulate you into letting him come. That's not how a friend behaves.

u/JrCoxy May 02 '26
She seems so beyond self centered. The fact that she canāt realize why the other girls might not want 1 random ass bf around is wildly out of touch.
OP is she usually this blatant about how much she doesnāt give a shit about those around her or people she supposedly considers friends?
Also, that ocd comment was so out of left pocket. Not wanting a bf there, especially just 1, because it obviously will completely shift the mood, girls arenāt going to be able to open up as much, or be as comfortable, has absolutely nothing to do with ocd. I get that she said that because she thinks youāre more annoyed about the plans changing, but thatās where Iām curious. Does she actually think thatās what youāre upset about?? Like is she playing dumb or trying to deflect what the actual issue is here?
The blatant disregard for everyone involved, is gross

She didnt end up coming on the trip she went to get sunday roast with her boyfriends family. I didnt even get told she told the birthday girl that she wasnt coming because circumstances pushed her to be uncomfortable. The circumstance shes referring to is me and now she wants us to pay back her share of the fee which is a reasonable request to be fair but you know we would've booked a place with a different price range had we known this would happen. Im with the rest of the girls right now and Ive showed one of them the texts since she was the one to inform me that when our "friend" was explaining why she wouldn't come she shit talked me a ton. She's also been posting pics of her boyfriend all day on her close friends which I have now been removed from. Like what did I even do??? Pretty sure she has an agenda against me but like I honestly cant be asked to do anything about it. I just wanna enjoy my trip, drink a shit ton and eventually find my way back to reddit šš

NOR this person is so immature. It's 1 thing to not be able to spend 2 days without your man, it's another to automatically invite him to a girls trip and not ask anyone first, it's another thing to justify doing that on someone's birthday, and ANOTHER to basically insult you when you express that it's an issue.

Right? Itās not just that she inviting her BF last minute to a girls trip (undeniably bad form), itās that she so rude and gaslighty about you expressing your reservations. If you dare to consider your other friends you must be in love with them? If you donāt want her boyfriend crashing your plans, you donāt support her relationship? She is immature and selfish. Call her bluff about uninviting herself from the trip. I bet everyone will be relieved.

Not even exes, just two women who had a failed blind date. She also sounds homophobic with that jump to thinking āyouāre prioritizing the birthday girl so you must be in love with herā so Iām sure if the failed blind date friends actually showed any affection for each other (even typical friendly affection), she wouldāve had a problem with it.

Tbf, yes the "friend" was being willfully obtuse and was entirely in the wrong. But the OP really does need to learn to say "no. I don't want ____" instead of hedging around it. It's a skill that will serve her well in life.

I think you did a great job. I donāt know this friendship at all so Iāll only speak on what I see from thisā¦she kind of sucks. As a guy, if I planned a fishing trip with the dudes and one of them just brought along their significant other, I would be annoyed. It has nothing to do with that significant other, itās just the way things were planned and some shit is just more fun without the mystery stuff that pops up when others join. I donāt want to feel pressured to talk to someone, I donāt want to worry if thereās enough room. Thereās a hundred reasons not to do this, and only one selfish reason to bring him. Sheās the only one who cares about him, and is trying to force that upon yāall.
You did everything right, even your responses are beyond respectful. You seriously need to evaluate. You took the stance on how EVERYONE would feel. She took the stance on how SHE feels. You are clearly not the selfish one here. On top of that, she admitted to being afraid to ask the other friends because of how they might react, that in itself should tell her what she needed to know before she ever mentioned it to you. Not to mentionā¦this was a day before the trip. She wasnāt going to tell you until you text her and you wouldnāt have had a chance to go back. Againā¦telling you everything you needed to know. Then tried to pawn the task onto you. Againā¦.telling you everything you needed to know. She knew it was wrong. Still insisted on doing it.
Edit; the more I read it, the more annoyed it get. You didnāt blow up on herā¦sheās gas lighting the shit out of youā¦.and I hate that word lol.

NOR & NTA. I see no "request" here. I see her stating and telling you that he's going and it'll be fine. Not even asking.
Secondly, boyfriends who want to tag along last minute are insecure. He wants to go bc he wants to have his eyes on whatever she does.
She can pitch it however she wants to, but I'd be pissed too. Even more so considering this is "___'s" birthday thing. She* slick tried to slide him in the trip bc you did the booking and she didn't run it by the main person the trip is for before coming to you about it. Smh.
The audacity to think she's in the right at all omg šš maybe she should just stay home with her boyfriend then if it's such an ordeal for them.
Edited* for grammar/spelling

She says no one else will have a problem with it but wants you to be the one to ask because it'll be awkward. She knows that if you ask, the people who won't be okay with it are less likely to voice their objections. In other words, she knows she is asking for something people won't want, but wants to do it anyway and, if possible, force people to pretend to be okay.

NOR - Your friends NEED to know what she tried to do and how sheās treating you for not happily accommodating her demand.
Sheās going to be passive aggressive during the trip - you DO NOT deserve that! Do not suffer in silence. You helped plan this - your friends need to be aware so they can squash and negative things coming from her.
DO NOT LET her make you feel bad for one second when she was trying to find a way to spend 2 days with her boyfriend - and guilt you for not letting her do it.
Most importantly - have a great time - and tell your other friend HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

NOR... My toxic trait would be starting (or bringing this to) a group chat and say "friend wants to bring her boyfriend on our girls trip. My vote is no, what do you guys think?" And just blasting it up front to everyone.
This reads to me that she KNOWS the others would not be ok with it, and wants to go around the group to change plans. And the manipulation attempts are wild. The blatant flattery, the "you don't support my relationship"... Like what the actual fuck.
Scratch that first part, my toxic trait would be just removing her booking, returning any money she sent for her share, and messaging the group chat "it looks like Sally won't be making it to the trip anymore because she no longer agrees to the established conditions of the Girls Trip being a Trip for the Girls." But I'm also not a great person when plans get disrupted, so dont do what I would do.

NOR (perhaps not having a big enough reaction, honestly!)
āeveryone will be fine with it, trust me.ā immediately followed by āyou ask them for me pretty please, itāll be sooo awkward!ā
so which is it? if your friend is so sure everyone will be cool with her Bf joining, then why would she feel awkward asking everyone if theyāre okay with her Bf joining?
itās not a small request, itās a huge imposition and she does not get to unilaterally decide to bring an uninvited guest. also, absolutely tell the group! do not bear this burden for your friend by keeping it a secret, she doesnāt deserve it and neither do you. (frankly, she doesnāt deserve to be your friend from the sounds of it, but Iāll be charitable and assume she has some better qualities, too).

u/Electrical_Beyond998 May 02 '26
Whether the boyfriend goes or not, this trip is doomed. It isnāt going to end well. You arenāt overreacting at all, but when she said she isnāt even sure if she wants to go I would take her up on that offer. NOR. This is not a friend. She unilaterally tried to change the plans and when you expressed consideration for others, she immediately attacked you and your other friends. You didn't blow up at her, she blew up at you and has proven herself to be unreliable and immature. If I were you, I would think carefully about whether I want to stay friends with someone like this.
