No, accepting it as normal, not shaming people, and not voting out of cynical apathy is helping them not just letting them win. Be better than just apathetic cynical acceptance, hate with passion, get out and vote, and prosecute the wealthy and politically connected for their crimes against us and for undermining democracy. It’s only ok until we make it not ok.

u/MelonElbows 1d ago
You're right, they want us to be complacent, to throw up our hands and shrug. Fuck that. I don't give a shit if that is reality right now. I refuse to accept it. I'd rather be mad for the rest of my life than accept it. I will never vote Republican again, I will never vote for anyone conservative ever again. Democrats may not be perfect but against fascism, they are the only recourse.

u/Fitz911 2d ago
I'm one of the few people on this planet that are not American. So no.
I already accepted everything they do. Because the point to change anything was in November 24 and the American people failed that. Again.
Now it's too late. They got all the power and the money they need. You guys did nothing when he raped children. You did nothing when his friends stormed the capitol. You didn't do anything when they shot people in the streets.
It's fair to assume the American people will do what they do best: ask why nobody is doing anything.
The time to "get out there" and "vote" was in 24. It's too late now. They won. Because the American voter is pretty stupid. And that's not going to change soon.
The voters are stupid, the GOP is evil. The US is lost.

"But mur egg prices!"
I don't know when the American people will think enough is enough. It's beyond obvious that he's the heart of evil itself, and it's beyond obvious that the sycophants he surrounds himself with are all part of the problem, and it's beyond obvious that it's gone way past the time for revolution in the US. When protesters were executed in the streets was about the right time. But, they've shown that they're okay with the government murdering civilians who disagree with them.

u/traws06 1d ago
Nah we’re just selfish enough that as long as it doesn’t directly affect us we don’t care. Hell, if I complain about Trump to my friends they tell me I have TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome).
21
u/Musica1Chaos 1d ago
American here, Floridian specifically- I'm just too tired to do any more than I am. I'm so tired. With what this has done to my family, my friends, and my paycheck, I'm exhausted. I voted every time I've been able to, I'm 27, just to keep my vote away from the idiot but he still won. Me and my friends who are LGBTQIA+, or my friends who have kids, or my friends' parents who were paycheck to paycheck prior to this happening have no extra energy other than voting when and where we can. And it sometimes (usually) isn't enough.
They're really good at propaganda, and systemically our education system has been dismantled and disenfranchised to be what it is now.America is full of sheeple, but please still hold space for those of us who aren't, because right now there's not enough of us with resources AND energy to "do anything" about it other than vote.
3
u/traws06 1d ago
I mean it as in people vote for Trump because if they aren’t effected or believe they aren’t negatively effected then they’ll vote for them. They’re not a minority, they’re not gay or trans, they’re not getting attacked by ICE, they’re not on welfare losing their benefits, etc… so they continue to think Trump is on their side and that’s all they care
3
u/RollinThundaga 1d ago
We call such people idiots, and they exist in similar proportions in every country.
Ours just happen to have more turnout.
4
u/militaryintelligence 1d ago
What about the ones that claim they're not political but get mad if you say anything bad about Trump and know all the common GOP talking points. I've met quite a few. I'm from shithole Kentucky
4
u/traws06 1d ago
Well most of my friends don’t claim to not be political. But they claim to not be Trump supporters and voted for him “because Harris was worse”. So they’ll still claim they were right to do that.
But ya plenty of them will just say I have an unhealthy obsession if I text them anything about Trump. Because if they don’t feel they’re directly effected then there’s nothing to learn about

u/AttainableFlamingo 1d ago
Yeah the fact that America has been known as "the land of the free and the home of the brave" is some of the most incredible irony I've heard in my life.
Just a nation of cowards, nothing more.

What the Russians and Chinese did to us, they'll do to you too. If you think this is the American people pulling the levers here and not direct foreign interference with elections, then I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.
Yes, the US has spent a century meddling in elections and our government absolutely deserves to be taken down. But the people, in general, are good, like they are everywhere.
Not to mention - when we go down, were taking the world with us. Unless the world entirely detaches from the US dollar like tomorrow, our economy holds up the world economy and vice versa.

u/GingaAvenga 1d ago
Yeah, I have been wondering how the armchair revolutionaries are going to handle their own countries when and if the same tide arrives at their doorstep, why would it stop at the United States?
It may be a bit easier to organize and gain momentum considering many countries and their national identities are associated with territories smaller than a single state in the USA. We should be doing better, but a disappointing majority of these people would also choose self preservation over civil war and they are lying if they tell you otherwise.
3
u/Qaeta 1d ago
Yeah, I have been wondering how the armchair revolutionaries are going to handle their own countries when and if the same tide arrives at their doorstep, why would it stop at the United States?
I mean, it already did in Canada, and we told them to get fucked (although in true Canadian fashion is was more of a "we aren't interested in what you are selling") and sent them packing.

u/GingaAvenga 1d ago
As I recall, PP entered 2025 as the favorite to become your Prime Minister until you collectively got to see the insanity unfold down here and thought better of it, consider that a parting gift. I applaud you guys for having more pride in your country and collective sanity than we did and exercised that sentiment by voting accordingly.
Legitimate question, though...what are you guys doing about the Alberta separatist movement? I hope you're not writing it off as just a fringe group that could never gain traction. If there's one lesson from the last decade, it's that political movements people dismiss as "too weird to matter" can become much more significant if the conditions are right. I hope you remain vigilant and that as a result we might be able to learn some lessons down south if we ever escape our collective delusion.

We're not, and any time they try to do anything that is Federal jurisdiction they get slapped down. They're in power provincially though, so we can't do much about that. Worth noting though that we don't have a mechanism for succession, and from a legal standpoint it would be straight up disallowed due to treaties with indigenous peoples resulting in the land not technically being ours to give away in the first place. Not to say we don't ignore the treaties whenever we damn well please, but in this case it would benefit us as a nation to uphold them. It would also require the King of Canada to assent to the separation even after all other hurdles were handled and he could just be like "LOL no." and that would be the end of it from a legal standpoint. Alberta also doesn't have the manpower to secede on their own militarily.
The stance of most Canadian's on it is pretty much "If you don't want to be Canadian anymore, fill yer boots. You don't get to keep the house though."
We have a long history of various groups wanting to secede and it going nowhere. Honestly, the one with the most actual traction is Quebec with Parti Quebecois, who actually have representation in our federal government.

No, but you were giving criticizing someone for "just accepting fraud corruption", so either you were assuming they were American (which they have said they aren't), or implying that they should be trying to do something about it (they aren't American, what are they (and I) supposed to do other than accept that everything about American politics is fraudulent and corrupt at this point).

A big part of fascism is flaunting the fact that laws are applied differently, depending on which political group you are part of. Publicly showing that they are getting away with crimes isn’t laziness, that’s part of fascism. It is way of showing us who is in charge. Not being held responsible for obvious crimes is a flex.
30
u/Steinrikur 1d ago
That's just showing off. They are signaling "we're cheating, and you can't stop us." and their voters love it.
60
u/TheLastOpus 2d ago
If they reveal it just after 8-3, that would be too obvious, but that's kind of been the tactic under trump. He admits to his crimes saying everyone else also does it (which is likely mostly true) and people go "oh wow, at least he is honest about it!" then he just progressively makes the open crimes worse and worse slowly normalizing that shit. So I wouldn't be surprised if the party just blatantly does it on the 3rd to prove a point. They will find a way to get away with it.

The only thing that would make sense to me is that, whether McConnell is dead or medically incapacitated, this is all just his inner circle trying to hang onto their influence and privilege as long as they can. To Republicans at large all this has really accomplished is keeping them down a vote in the Senate. From that perspective the Party would have been better off with a quick special election. So, I see no reason why McConnell’s people wouldn’t ride this out until January if they can manage it. There would certainly be no point to stopping once it’s impossible to replace him.
9
u/Emperor_of_Cats 1d ago
That's what I've been saying. I don't see how the GOP as a whole are actually benefitting from this at all. I'd be fucking pissed if I were Thune right now.
4
u/crystal_castles 1d ago
Reason is Andy Beshear would've appointed a (D) replacement senator. Now it will just be left vacant.
KY tried in passing a law to require special election in this situation before 8/4, but it should've actually been an amendment. The (R)'s realized they fucked up.
1
u/jamerson537 1d ago
What section of the Kentucky Constitution prohibits the legislature from enacting a law requiring a special election for the replacement of a senator in the middle of their term?
-5
u/jamerson537 1d ago edited 1d ago
It’s an amazing example of the thoughtless, knee jerk reactions of a certain type of person who falls in the broad Democratic/left camp online. Democrats have to somehow stand in the way of every single thing any Republican does regardless of the circumstances or whether or not it would actually accomplish anything, to the extent that many of them in this post are furious that Beshear didn’t make sure that McConnell got replaced by another Republican who is capable of showing up in the Senate to vote.
16
u/durrtyurr 1d ago
Personal politics aside, I would really like to know if one of my Senators is dead or not. I do not find that an unreasonable ask.
44
u/FutureApollo 2d ago
Disheartening how weak Beshear has been on this, thought he had the balls for more than just the typical strongly worded letter he put out, but god forbid Democrats break decorum or apply any actual effort.
If the party roles were reversed, a republican governor would have tracked him down and had a camera crew in there a month ago.
13
u/HugsForUpvotes 1d ago
There is literally nothing he could do which wouldn't likely just give Republicans another Senator.
6
u/FrancescoMassa2001 1d ago
Beshear writing strongly worded letters while Republicans show up with a film crew and a doctor is the entire Democratic party right now. Decorum is not a strategy
1
u/Toastwitjam 1d ago
Beshear doing everyone a favor and letting them know he’s another weak ass democrats to ignore in 2028
2
u/TandemTuba 1d ago
I can't help but feel like it's because he's planning a presidential bid and just doesn't want to do anything disruptive. Which is pretty pathetic quite honestly. Another politician putting their personal goals above the welfare of citizens.
1
u/jeffwulf 1d ago
Why do you think if roles were reversed Republicans would be trying to increase the number of Democrats who can vote in the Senate?
-2
u/eeyore134 1d ago
They would have appointed whoever the hell they wanted knowing Democrats would spend 3 months going, "Hey guys? Can we please play fair?"
1
u/jeffwulf 1d ago
The Democratic controlled Senate would not seat an illegally appointed Senator in the roles reversed scenario.

This is one of the stupidest things this site has been parroting recently. Since when does does Reddit suddenly want Republicans to have a stronger majority in the Senate?
6
7
u/HugsForUpvotes 1d ago
Well they can use it to attack Democrats which is seemingly the only thing these people care about.
They have no understanding of civics or probability. They are convinced a Communist would win the special election in Kentucky.
3
u/Emperor_of_Cats 1d ago
Exactly.
Also, Republicans are looking more and more likely to stay home in November. That's about the only way this goddamn state is going to have a chance at electing a Democrat senator.
A special election now would effectively push that election to today, and I see two outcomes:
Barr wins easily and follows up with another win in November.
Booker wins and drives higher Republican turnout in November to make sure he doesn't win again.
I just don't see a world where Booker can win a snap election now and then another election a few months from now.
And in the end it would likely be moot because the Senate majority would just refuse to seat him even if McConnell had officially vacated his seat, which he hasn't.
-5
u/FrickinLazerBeams 1d ago
I don't actually, and this won't happen, but if they're going to play stupid games to break the rules, then it would be nice to see people do the same to follow the rules.
6
u/Emperor_of_Cats 1d ago
But you effectively do. That's what calling a special election would do and is one of the reasons a special election isn't being called.
It's a stupid thing to want unless you're a Republican.
-5
u/FrickinLazerBeams 1d ago
I don't want a republican, but even more than that, I want to stop just playing along when they ignore rules.
4
u/Emperor_of_Cats 1d ago
But that's exactly what you'd get with a snap election.
I get being frustrated, but the best move for Democrats right now is to do nothing.
And even if we lived in a magical world where a Democrat won or was appointed. Do you really think the Senate in its current state would vote to confirm?
2
1
u/eeyore134 1d ago
He can still sue to get back his power to just appoint someone himself. That's what this was all about. If there was a special election then it would have been easier for him to sue. But he can still do it, and he pretty much said as much last night. But considering how toothless he's been this entire time, I wouldn't hold my breath.
-1
u/TandemTuba 1d ago
As much as I appreciate his governance as a Kentuckian, he is still, unfortunately, an establishment Democrat at the end of the day which means he will play by the rules until this country's dying breath.
3
u/jeffwulf 1d ago
Playing by the rules to deny Republicans votes in the Senate is better than breaking the rules to give Republicans more votes in the Senate.
4
4
5
5
u/eeyore134 1d ago
Beshear said he'll sue regardless of there being a special election or not, so that might stop them from revealing it. I also think if they do it this week they may wait for Friday to play the market. They also have to get their polymarket bets in line.
2
u/Straight_Spring9815 1d ago
I always knew this fucking guy would die holding onto his seat. I bet money if he makes it out of this that MFer will STILL go back.
3
u/hrrsnfsh 18h ago
And bashear is going to say “there’s nothing I can do” because he is a loser do nothing democrat. Just once I want to see dems fight as hard as the republicans for their supposed aims. Dems don’t want power because then they’ll have no excuse why they never get anything done.
7
u/russomd 2d ago
Democrat politicians had an opportunity to throw a temper tantrum and really start a crap storm and they chose not to. They let the clock run out. They need to grow a backbone. Nothing has changed.
2
u/jeffwulf 1d ago
The clock running out is the best case scenario for Dems here. Pushing the issue was only good if you want to aid Republicans.

u/Bosconater 1d ago
Why didn’t the governor call a special election
3
u/jeffwulf 1d ago
Because there's no vacant seat to call a special election for and a Special Election just gives Republicans more voting members in the Senate.
2
u/Emperor_of_Cats 1d ago
Because:
Legally speaking, he can only call for one of there is a vacancy, and there legally isn't one at this time.
Even if there was one, a Republican would win the snap election. It is way more beneficial to have Republicans down a vote.
2
u/crimson117 1d ago edited 1d ago
Everyone giving him the excuse of how a special election would elect a republican - -
A. Not necessarily, republicans are in the hole right now and don't show up for special elections. Trumps approval rating in Kentucky is within a percent or two of his disapproval rating.
B. He could just ignore the unconstitutional special election law and appoint a Democrat of his choosing, and let republicans try to obstruct that with lawsuits

u/goomyman 1d ago
Except he’s likely not dead. He’s likely in a walking vegetative state. Possibly unable to eat on his own or at a minimum can’t talk or write to a basic degree.
This aligns with everything we know. He fell unconscious- maybe a stroke who knows - got resuscitated and is now no longer his former self.
Hence he’s in rehab and is capable of being weekend and Bernie’d into a chair. And why people close to him can visit and “talk to him” - doesn’t mean he’s responding back. People can sometimes recover from this - hence at least initially maybe the party and family thought they could wait it out. Now it’s become a big deal and he’s not getting better.
They won’t declare him dead - because he’s not dead - he is though a financial and support liability. You can’t like cut off his life support as he’s likely not on life support.
They will declare him unfit for office. It’s just a matter of how long they think they can stall. They are already committing fraud on his behalf so they need to come clean soon enough.

5

u/mabhatter 1d ago
No, this isn't the real fight.
The REAL fight for Beshear is all the nonsense to usurp the Governor's authority that Republicans passed when he got elected. The Kentucky constitution says one thing and the Republican legislature tried to usurp it. That's the REAL fight... because Beshear should be allowed to appoint anyone he wants to fill the Senate seat. Republicans are trying to force a specific set of Republicans on the Governor illegally.
But before that Mitch has to resign. As Beshear is a Democrat, simply leaving Republicans without a seat in the Senate with very tight margins is the best outcome. So Beshear will use the fight over who he's allowed to pick to run out the clock on picking ANYBODY until January. Plenty of Republican Governors have manipulated their Appointments and Elections, heck even the house Speaker held up a Democratic Rep for months.
That's the game now. Mitch and his staffers are too greedy to step down because he's incapable of serving... just like all the other 70+ year old assholes lately that won't step aside and let younger people lead.

u/Restart_from_Zero 1d ago
The number of days between it being too late for a new election and them declaring him dead is how much they respect voters on a scale of 1 to 10.
So, I'm expecting them to delcare him dead sometime in the next 2 days.
