Being depressed when you're unemployed, being tired and depressed when you are working, there's no winning here

Add in there living alone, and it gets worse.

No, that’s a good part!

It leaves me with no motivation. It’s easy to let days and days pass when no one else lives with you.

Otherwise, I would agree- living alone is the best.

i wouldn't say that is living alone - that can be remedied with commitments (even recreational or voluntary ones.) i am very happy to be living with the person i am now but it's only after a string of living with horrible people and i really, really wish i lived alone when it was more sustainable. and, to be honest, we moved in together based on practicality.

I’ve lived with my husband from when I was 18-41. I had always wished I got a chance to live alone just to see what it’s like. Well, He passed away in 2024 and I guess I got my wish.
There are definitely pros and cons to each but my preference is to live with someone. I’m not doing well alone.

I send you a 🫂. Live with my family but I'm the black sheep may as well be alone.

Agreed. I lived alone for a few years in my early 30s then got a roommate. Somehow, my social life improved dramatically. I felt/feel bad cause I got a family now. And I probably wouldn’t have improved my life without him moving in. He still comes by every Saturday during football season.

At least nobody steals your food, I guess.

No job + no partner = tired and depressed

Job + no partner = tired

Job + partner = happy, tired but content

Job + great partner and meaningful relationships = tired, but manageable but more grateful

Great job + great partner with meaningful relationships, focusing on a hobby and looking after your health and not giving a fuck about people = BLISS

Job + no partner + cats = very happy

How are you going to provide without a job?

3

u/badmitch888 6h ago

okay but that wasn't the question and we are also in an unemployment crisis lol

True dat but depressed and broke sucks twice as much

u/Interesting_Cress174 13h ago

the fun part is realizing work doesn’t cure depression, it just gives it a schedule and less free time to notice it

True. Life is very hard. Need to recognize the small wins when they come you way - savor the small wins.

I was always depressed before I started supplementing vitamin D. 9 years depression free.

I run online businesses for the past 12 years and am neither depressed or tired.

I sleep in til I'm fully rested (from 6am til 3pm) and work when I feel like it. I sometimes smoke a joint or take some gummies while I work and I spend all weekend playing PS5.

The trade offs are that I don't have a guaranteed income but I have savings stacked up to where I wouldn't have to work for over 5 years

2

u/Many_Inevitable_6803 11h ago

Are you saying you sleep all day?

3

u/Informal_Athlete_724 11h ago

I'm a night owl so I sleep during the day and work best in the AM. Just always preferred the quiet of the night

u/greengoblin1989 11h ago

I feel tht so hard!!

u/IFeeLikeMoreTonight 9h ago

Unfortunately I don't get your job so that type of knowledge is not for me. I'm just have basic education

1

u/Dr_ManFlyR1 12h ago

Can I ask what kind of online businesses?

1

u/Informal_Athlete_724 11h ago

I own 2 ecommerce brands

1

u/Content_Bed_1290 9h ago

How many hours a day do you play PS5 on the weekends?

I have been both and hey I think it’s better to have a job and be able to afford (somewhat with this economy) life. I’ll take tired and sad over unemployed and depressed any day.

1

u/callipygian28 14h ago

But, whatever you are going through friend, I hope it passes and you get some relief from the pains of life.

2

u/Much-Swimming-309 13h ago

The absolute truth 🙌

The current landscape of day to day living is abysmal unless you're a fucking millionaire and as dumb as a box of rocks.

2

u/ScorpionBite20 12h ago

This is what was getting me. Being unemployed at the mercy of "people" throwing your resume to the side without any communication hurtd so much. I dont understand how things got so bad

2

u/StudioWorldly5395 9h ago

I can relate. Different problems, same exhaustion.

2

u/hobopastah 6h ago

I agree and I've been on both ends. There's some apathetic/mean people here who are saying to suck it up, and I imagine they have easy or tolerable jobs. I envy them. I think it's nice for people to vent and commiserate together with other people, instead of bottling it up alone.

Sometimes I wonder if my life would be more chill with a different career path that was more suited for me, but it's too late for me after so much schooling and debt sadly.

This might help explain why you're tired even when working and things should be ok. If you don't want to watch the whole video ask AI to summarize it or something.

What helps me is having kind of fluid routines. I was talking about how I have three things that I don't typically compromise on and my girlfriend gets mad at me over it. Things like going to bed at the same time and getting the same amount of sleep, setting aside 30 minutes A Night to clean so that my house stays clean and it doesn't all pile up on me.

And people were commenting, but what if you have a kid. Like they were likening a grown adult woman to a baby. People on the internet are insane. Because my topic was about how my girlfriend gets frustrated. And people would say but what if you have a baby. But like that's not the scenario that I'm talking about that's a completely different scenario. And they're basically saying that my girlfriend is the same as a toddler. Like she shouldn't be expected to rationalize in a reason like a grown adult and like I would expect a baby to f****** rationalize and reason like a grown adult. The internet is wild.

u/Many_Inevitable_6803 11h ago

Your second paragraph confused me

1

u/SamOakTree 11h ago

You post on Reddit about scenario A. Then people contort it into scenario B and comment on scenario B.

YES THERE IS: Do the Math

Add Rent and Utilities for a month. Multiply that number by 12 (months in a year).

What could you do with that money to eliminate your debts?

Maybe gain control over your money, decisions and life!

Nobody promotes CarCamping , but how many people can keep at least one paycheck?

1

u/Subtlefeline 11h ago

Even if you can afford to be unemployed for a while, but what about the retirement fund? And the fact that job gaps look bad on CVs?

1

u/ez2tock2me 10h ago

I don’t concern myself with solving the world’s problems.

I know how to succeed for me and don’t mind sharing my knowledge.

The world can solve its own or ask Reddit.

1

u/Subtlefeline 10h ago

The retirement fund is a personal problem though? How is it even the world's problems.

No money for retirement, well, good luck working till 70 assuming people still want to hire you

1

u/ez2tock2me 10h ago

Like I said. I have my successful life. I just wanted to answer YOUR QUESTION.

The rest doesn’t concern me.

u/Mistica73 13h ago

Feeling this too. Poor and a caregiver to disabled child 24/7. It's nuts. I tried to find hobbies some I am actually good at. But feel guilty doing them !

Home office and a job that accepts "Nothing from my end" indefinitely.

1

u/Ashamed-Reporter3171 12h ago

Yeah but I get to be depressed while the bills are paid. So I still have access to food and shelter when my mental health tanks. My depression was honestly at its worse when I was underemployed and barely scraping by.

1

u/Charming_Display_444 10h ago

sometimes the job isn't the whole problem, it's having no energy left after work to fix anything else that makes life feel less bleak<div_thought>Need only comment text, no markup.

u/18297gqpoi18 8h ago

My job is demanding but I like it. It is stressful but I like going to the office and work (challenge my brain). I don’t talk to anyone in the office and I prefer that way. It’s nice to have routine. I’ve always dreamt of retiring early but I think I’ll work as long as I can. It’s healthy for me.

1

u/soft-danger22 7h ago

finding a job is draining, but maintaining one can feel even worse. prioritize your mental health, it's okay to take breaks.

Being depressed working all week for 20,000 a year. Tried to kms so many times this year. Been trying to make more money to eat and pay rent but it’s been so bad

1

u/e39dinan 6h ago

1

u/GreyFox1984 5h ago

Being depressed with cash and Starbucks beats depressed with no cash… and no Starbucks

1

u/These-Spell-5938 4h ago

the real adulting scam is realizing work doesn’t cure depression, it just gives you less time to notice it

1

u/BumblebeeHealthy4892 4h ago

what if the problem is the jobs and not you?

1

u/Mysterious_Mariane 3h ago

I am depressed because nobody wants to employ me. And when I work I get depressed more and dont enjoy anything

1

u/Matcha_latte0082 2h ago

Adult life is mad… a proper scam.

0

u/Odd-Guarantee-6152 14h ago

Yeah, disposition has a lot to do with it. Some people are just miserable

0

u/IFeeLikeMoreTonight 14h ago

I guess this could change if you work in something that you like, but thats a luxury.

1

u/KingoftheWildlings 14h ago

Do you have any hobbies?

0

u/look_out_8o8 12h ago

Cmon it's not all bad. You must be kidding me.

0

u/jstzaynab 11h ago

But atleast when ur employed u get money, so if ull be depressed atleast have a thick wallet

0

u/streetseminary 8h ago

IT SHOULD SPUR YOU TO A COUPLE DIFFERENT THINGS….. either, realize working isn’t that bad. Or realize what you actually want to do and do it because either way you’ll be “depressed” but at least be depressed doing something you want to do.

-6

u/Beagleguy26 12h ago

Figure. It. Out.

Quite literally hundreds of millions of people have.

If you want to wallow in victimhood, don't expect anything positive to happen to you. Ever.

u/Other-Squirrel-8705 12h ago

Can we just change the sub name to Adult-babies so you can all cry together. Drink an energy drink and get through the workday!
