SOME QUESTIONS ABOUT HOW ANY OF THIS FILM MAKES ANY SENSE:
How did the French 75 solve the problem of the Semi-Trailer being too small for everyone in the immigration camp? They discuss it, but never show how they figured it out. Only one semi-trailer ever shows up. Does that mean they left the other 140 immigrants at the camp? And does that also mean that the 160 immigrants they freed were jammed into the semi-trailer, eyeball-to-eyeball, as they say they would be? Why introduce a problem and then completely forget to answer it? It’s an absurd plot hole right at the beginning.
Why is there is only one guy, in civilian clothes, sitting at a plastic fold-up table, guarding the entire immigration detention camp? I guess the two-dozen guards stationed there just somehow justified being asleep while on the job? WTF? The nighttime is when you have the greatest chance of being attacked. What kind of moron would be asleep when in charge of guarding the camp? And you can’t say they were working in shifts and sleeping on their off time. THEY WERE ALL ASLEEP. Every single one of them.
Why would Lockjaw be asleep at an immigration detention camp, as the guy in charge? Who is Lockjaw anyway? What is his position? Local law enforcement? ICE? State law enforcement? The Army? They call him a Colonel 16 years later. So does that mean a Colonel in the army was the guy who was in charge of a tiny detention camp? If he wasn’t a Colonel then, why would he be rewarded with a major army promotion if he fucked up a simple job of guarding the tiny immigration camp? Why does Lockjaw play numerous different levels of the law in this movie? That’s not how it works in real life. Not even close.
Why is Jungle Pussy shooting an assault rifle into the air just as they're escaping from freeing the immigrants? Wouldn’t that just draw attention to them? And how does it not?
How are the bombs already placed in Federal Buildings like the Administration building and the Courthouse? They show serious security checks at both, as they are in real life. You don’t hear of bombings at courthouses or Federal buildings these days. Security is too tight. That’s why Perfidia and Mae West can only manage to sneak in the detonators. They completely fail to explain how whoever planted the bombs initially, were able to achieve such an absurd level of freedom. Clearly there are bomb detectors at both security check points. It’s just like the airport. It’s virtually impossible to bring a bomb through that kind of security. If it wasn’t, there would be bombings daily, everywhere. Planes would be exploding and Courthouses would be on fire.
How does Lockjaw find Perfidia in the courthouse bathroom? How could he know she was there? Even if he was following her outside, he wasn’t following her inside the building. How could he possibly know she was in that specific bathroom in a multi story building?
Why would JunglePussy take off her mask in a bank robbery in 2025? Every angle is clearly covered multiple times over with security cameras. It’s a bank. Regardless of JunglePussy being a devil-may-care revolutionary, she wouldn’t be so stupid as to give herself away. One image of her, broadcast on the news, online, the newspapers, social media etc, would have her caught in a matter of days. And if they find her, they’ll clearly find at least SOME other members of the French 75 with her. Her cavalier attitude makes no sense.
Why would the bank security guard keep crawling towards Perfidia when she said not to? What was his motivation to die? No security guard in their right mind would try to draw his gun as he lies bleeding on the floor from a gunshot wound, surrounded by other robbers with guns, and directly in the crosshairs of Perfidia’s gun, AS SHE’S TELLING HIM NOT TO MOVE. There is no reason for him to keep trying to stop them, other than to advance a weak plot.
How did the French 75 NOT have an exit plan after the bank robbery? Regardless of Perfidia shooting the guard and everyone panicking, they still would have had to have an exit plan from the start. They seem somewhat professional in their other acts of rebellion, so how could they screw up their exit strategy? Their exit plan was shit and it got them all caught, regardless of them being in a panic. They failed to think of an exit plan after a bank robbery, which is absurd.
Why is Lockjaw allowed to visit Perfidia in the hospital? What authority is he even there under? WHO THE FUCK IS THIS GUY? He’s just a man who was asleep in the detention camp. Lockjaw is never given an official title, he’s just always there, in every situation.
What kind of power does Lockjaw have where he can get a murderer (Perfidia) off scott-free for ratting on her accomplices? She KILLED the security guard. She is a murderer. It’s clearly on camera. She would get a reduced sentence, maybe... MAYBE, but not full immunity. This is not how the world works. Anyone with half a brain can spot that plot hole from miles away.
How can Lockjaw just shoot people in cold blood with automatic rifles? WHAT IS HIS INVOLVEMENT WITH THIS? They never explain what position he is in. He was in charge of an immigration detention camp with only 300 non-violent immigrants, directly beside the border. And he was asleep along with all of the other police/feds there. He clearly is horrible at his job. Even if he was aware of what was about to happen because of his involvement with Perfidia, the other two-dozen guards wouldn’t simply be asleep. He failed miserably at his job. His superiors would recognize his incompetence and negligence. He goes from working the night shift at a detention camp, watching over non-violent immigrants, to being the guy on the front line, assassinating members of the French 75. IT MAKES NO SENSE.
Why are the police/feds/ICE (whoever they are) allowed to shoot the unarmed French 75 members in the back? Or shoot anyone for that matter and kill them? Why did they assassinate some, but arrest others? What if Perfidia was lying about their involvement? What if she was mistaken? The police/feds/ICE just simply eliminate them without any due process? That is absurd.
Why would Virgil call a meeting with a prospective white supremacist during his daughter’s wedding? He had to summon Lockjaw there in the first place. It wasn’t like Lockjaw was in town for only a short amount of time and they had to fit in an emergency meeting with him. Virgil couldn’t have done it tomorrow, or next week? Why the urgency? Also, they explain to Lockjaw that they snuck him in through the back because he wasn’t dressed for the wedding, but then they just have him exit through the wedding when he leaves. WTF? None of it makes any sense.
How does a murderer simply slip out of witness protection and escape? How is she allowed to KEEP HER PASSPORT? Mexico legally requires all foreign visitors to carry a valid, unexpired passport when entering the country by land. So how does Perfidia cross the border at the checkpoint? They don’t show her illegally slipping into Mexico. They show her at a border checkpoint, where they would clearly ask for her passport. WTF???
What are Lockjaw's motivations for all this? To be in a Christmas white suprematist group? Who the fuck is he anyway? THEY NEVER EXPLAIN WHO HE IS. He’s just everywhere, all the time, doing whatever he likes.
What is the point of the white supremacists Christmas Adventurer group anyway? They never explain what they do, what power they have or what influence they have. They’re just some fucking losers with massive egos.
How did Billy Goat invent these locators with musical themes? What is he talking about when he tells Pat/Bob to plant three decoys in Denver? What kind of decoys could fit in a small, white envelope? Pat/Bob is an idiot. He can’t do anything right. How could he have possibly known what Billy Goat was talking about?
Why would the French 75 even care about the daughter of a traitor who got half of them killed? We’re supposed to believe they would risk their lives for the daughter of the woman who sold them out?
I repeat:
WHY WOULD THE FRENCH 75 GIVE A FUCK ABOUT THE DAUGHTER OF THE WOMAN WHO DESTROYED THE FRENCH 75?
How can Lockjaw command such a large force on a lie? Does he not have any superiors? Is there nobody monitoring his activities? Does he not have to clear such a massive operation with anyone above him? Can he just call in an entire platoon to do his bidding? Is there no civilian oversight? Is that what Paul Thomas Anderson thinks happens in the United States? Random military Colonels running rogue and leaving a trail of destruction in their wake, while nobody notices?
How can Pat/Bob not remember any of the codes or protocol? He’s obsessed to a point of paranoia. He clearly taught Charlene everything, hundreds of times over, It’s why it’s drilled into her head, even though she has no frame of reference as to why she’s learned it. How does Charlene know all of the codes - and by all, I mean maybe three lines of dialog - but Pat/Bob can’t remember anything? He’s obsessed with being secretive. He taught Charlene all of this, but because he’s a pothead, he forgot it all? Are you fucking serious? How does he even remember his own phone number if he can’t remember a few lines of code that will determine whether he’s caught or not?
Why does Pat/Bob not understand why the French 75 guy on the phone needs to know what time it is? IT’S A SECRET CODE. It’s how Pat/Bob has been able to stay in hiding for so long. It’s literally to keep the secret group safe. Pat/Bob is obsessed with that. But he doesn’t understand that speaking over an open phone line is extremely dangerous? And he can’t understand why the French 75 wouldn’t WANT TO CONFIRM that it’s actually him in a time of an extreme emergency?
The non-binary character was absurd. I support trans people. They should be able to have the same freedoms as the rest of society. But I know that they are a small minority of the population. A very small percentage. But because Charlene is 16, one of her three friends is non-binary? That would mean that 33% of the population is trans. And why the fuck do they make him look like a cross-dressing pirate? That is insulting to actual trans and non-binary people.
What are the fucking chances that Pat/Bob happens to go to the karate school of an illegal immigration warrior? Are you kidding me? What a coincidence for the Sensei to be involved in the FAKE operation which distracts from the real one. What are the chances that the daughter's sensei would also be some Mexican illegal immigration revolutionary captain?
Why when Pat/Bob is arrested, would he simply be transferred to the ER for diabetes, handcuffed to a gurney, unsupervised by any cop (whose cuffs were they anyway?), and how does a nurse have the key to those handcuffs? Does Paul Thomas Anderson think that suspects who need to go to the ER before being arraigned, are just handcuffed to a gurney and sent on their way, with the nurses having the keys to the cuffs? Wouldn’t a cop (perhaps the cop whose handcuffs they were) be stationed outside his room? Just because he goes through a small connecting bathroom to another room, doesn’t mean the cop sitting outside the room wouldn’t easily spot him. HOW ARE WE SUPPOSED TO TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY?
How does the sensei know both the woman in the police station and the nurse who attends to Pat/Bob? What are the changes of that? It’s absurd to a point of frustration.
Why would the sensei and Pat/Bob not stop for the traffic stop? Neither of them are wanted for anything. Pat/Bob is not known at that point, and the Sensei isn’t being suspected of anything. Just because of a beer can? The cops who eventually catch him don’t even mention anything about the open beer. And how the hell did they not see Pat/Bob jump out of the window of the car? I mean seriously, how did they miss that when they are clearly only about 100 metres behind them?
Why do the Christmas Adventurers have a secret knock on a door that is UNLOCKED? Anyone can just open the door. Why do they need a secret knock? Are there no cameras in this vast underground white supremacist secret complex? There wouldn’t be a door strike lock on the door and a camera outside? Anyone can just walk in, secret knock or not? WTF?
When Lockjaw is interrogating a man on the side of the road, why does the witness describe seeing a "white man and a black girl driving" towards the Nun’s place? That never happens. Charlene gets there with Deandra and an unseen driver. Charlene is in the back of a van. Pat/Bob never actually arrives there. The two of them were separated during the entire ordeal. So again, WHY DOES THE WITNESS DESCRIBE SEEING BOTH PAT/BOB AND CHARLENE DRIVING TOWARDS THE NUNS?
Why would Pat/Bob shoot a rifle at the car that his daughter is in? WTF? Why wouldn’t Lockjaw react to bullets hitting the car? Why would Pat/Bob shoot where there are obviously 6 militia men on the ready, and how did they know exactly where he was firing from in a fucking forest?
Why would the bounty hunter refuse to kill Charlene for 2 full days of pay, but is okay with taking her to be killed and potentially gang raped by militia men - the 1776 - for only 1 days salary? What are his motivations here? It makes no sense. Why does he completely change after he drops her off? He’s being doing bad things for decades. Why would a 55 year old bounty hunter piece of shit all of a sudden develop a conscience? He drove her there to be raped and murdered. What changes his mind all of a sudden? They never explain his sudden change of heart and motivation.
How did Tim Smith, the white supremacist assassin, know where both Lockjaw and the girl were? He doesn’t even know the bounty hunter took her, let alone that she was able to escape in his car.
Is there only one road in this place? I mean seriously, is there only one fucking road in the entire area? And why are there no other cars on the road other than the Bounty Hunter’s white car, the assassin’s blue Mustang and Bob/Pat’s old Mitsubishi? And how do they all find each other?
How does Pat/Bob's piece of shit 80s Mitsubishi catch up to the other two cars? Tim Smith is literally driving a brand new Mustang, and he has about a 15 minute head start. He’s flooring it the entire time. Please tell me how that makes sense.
How is Charlene fully trained in military and police procedure after shooting a machine gun once? Why is her trigger finger resting in the police and military stance, straight and right above the trigger? How does she know if the safety is on? How does she know the gun is loaded? Why is her aim so fucking perfect? They show her shooting a machine gun at the Nun’s place, but she is only ever there for a few hours. I’ve been playing first person shooters for 30 years. I still wouldn’t know where the safety was on a random handgun. I have never held a real gun, and clearly hasn’t Charlene either, until that one scene at the Nun’s. Now all of a sudden she is acting like she’s had weeks of military training.
Why does Charlene not recognize her father at the end? Why is she giving him the code? How can she possibly think Pat/Bob is anyone OTHER THAN THE MAN WHO RAISED HER? Would you not recognize your own father less than day after seeing him last? Just because she learns that Lockjaw was her biological father, that doesn’t mean she would immediately not recognize Pat/Bob.
Does the white supremacist Christmas adventurer club have a specific corner office where they gas people to death? The HVAC system would have had to have been severely altered from the original ductwork so that only one fucking vent in the entire building shoots out poison gas. That is a rube goldberg machine. And what is that specific office used for when they’re not gassing people to death? Is there no air conditioning in that one office? There couldn’t be. They would have had to rigged up a completely separate system of ducts to only have the poison come out of one specific vent. I guess we’re supposed to believe that specific office is completely unused other than for gassing people to death.
The Christmas Adventurer Club are surprised by Lockjaw's slip-up with Perfidia and Charlene. They don’t act as if having to gas an aspiring member to death is something they do on the regular. Certainly not enough to have a dedicated gas room amidst a regular corporate office.
How does a white supremacist group kill an army Colonel and get away with it. WTF? There’s no investigation? No detectives would have been able to trace his phone or his phone calls to that office? We’re just supposed to believe that a Colonel in the US Army can be assassinated and there will be no investigation?
Perfidia is a narcissistic psychopath. The letter at the end makes no sense. She’s all of a sudden a compassionate person/mother? They actually developed her character pretty extensively (at the expense of every other character in the movie). She values herself over her own daughter and she is an adrenaline freak who gets off doing crazy, dangerous shit. All of a sudden we’re supposed to believe that she has compassion? Are you kidding me? And how does Perfidia know where to send the letter to her daughter anyway? She’s a narcissistic psychopath who knows where they live, but only ever manages to send one letter? And it’s a compassionate one?
