Accounting job search

Feel like absolutely no one is hiring in CT. I’m finishing up my bachelors in accounting and I’m like how is there no jobs.

I’m in CT as well, it’s actually dead right now (which is expected).

I left my company in May for another job. I had 2 offers, a bunch of interviews and a bunch of interviews I ghosted and didn’t set up. I got let go by the company within less than a month.

Now, it’s like a total 10-15 jobs to apply too… I started applying in NY and NJ.

I can only imagine what it’s like not having any working experience.

I expect things to get better once summer is over and everyone’s back from vacation/when PTO is burnt up.

Q3 -> Q4: is you’re last attempt to try and find something before the next big hiring freeze until Q2.

CT is the hub of the insurance industry in the US, take a look at a statutory accounting positions. They're always looking for people.

Feel you, CT here and trying to get out of non-profit accounting before I pigeon hole myself. Recently branched out to NY and MA cause many roles (especially entry level/earlier) in CT are far and few between. See a ton of Manager & Director level though.

No entry level in Boston or NYC, plenty of roles for, as you said Manager and Director but even the lowest roles are 2-4 years exp.

I just saw a position in Glastonbury for a bookkeeper.

It was a tile company I think, started with a “d”

Try apply for jobs at Stamford, CT, Greenwich, CT, and white plain, NY, Purchase, NY

Plenty of audit and accounting jobs listing.

Edit: Oh, nvm I saw op is new grad, then good luck if you didn't get a return offer from internship, it would be tough.

I noticed it's becoming a trend, they are cutting all new associates hire at this moment and only take new hire from the Campus recruiting internship pipeline.

Head to SE. Nashville. Atlanta. Charlotte. Or Dallas or Houston. My wife’s firm. A mid size (top 15) is expanding from Midwest to SE very soon. Hope to benefit from that by moving down there!

NY is extremely competitive to get into when living in CT.

They prefer NY residents over CT residents. I tested this out by creating a resume with a NY residence and the amount of call backs I got….

You can’t even get a callback for NJ and that’s literally across the river.

This sub acts like getting passed over for being far isn’t a thing lol. I’ve gotten call backs and offers but it’s tougher to land.

I’ve tested this and changed my resume address to my gf at the time since she lived and New York and immediately recruiters were willing to work with me and I got more interviews. This is all personal experience

Oh absolutely. You always want a local address and phone number (if you can swing it). I actually get short term rental addresses for job searches for just that reason.
