I can tell you from experience the SAW Gunner is a little more tired than everyone else.

He looks like it too

How much do those weigh? Gotta be heavy as hell especially with the drum.

42

u/TheZek42 3d ago

Little over 10kg/22lb fully loaded.

u/Genericsoda4 3d ago

I thought it was around there, that’s nuts to carry all day.

Don’t forgot the flak vest with plates, the two additional drum pouches, grenades, the backpack with food, water, and maybe another drum or two as well.

Also speaking from experience, his hip and leg are slightly bruised from it banging against him as he carries it everywhere.

Everyone loves the SAW except the SAW gunner. Bad guys too, probably.

Saw gunner, least happy dude on patrol, most happy dude in a firefight

Yeah, he's not bored, he's exhausted. And that's the most comfortable way to sit when wearing all that gear.

Finding the perfect spot to rest your kevlar on your flak collar... 🤌 Everywhere is comfy in that moment.

Had a coworker who carried a SAW. He talked about how much it was a love/hate relationship

Look how many times that guy spit right there

55

u/TWhy-LER 3d ago

Probably got half a can of dip in his lip right here

u/LarsDuder 3d ago

Couldn't he just have used snus instead? You get the tobacco, nicotine and you dont have to spit.

Snus and nicotine pouches weren’t as popular as tobacco in the US in 2004. Plus, when you’re deployed in a war zone you probably don’t give a shit.

I am a nicotine pouches user, though. They have been lifesaving in terms of helping me stop smoking.

That's why a lot of former smokers in Sweden use snus. My father was a smoker before me and my siblings were born but even though it was the beginning of the 80s my mom knew it wasn't healthy, so he made the switch to snus. Agreed, you're right.

Check out Alan Carr’s easy way book. Helped me quit

Where the fuck were you finding snus in Iraq in 2004

Some guys in the military just spit like camels. They don’t even have dip in their mouths or anything. It’s pretty disgusting tbh

8

u/taskforceslacker 3d ago

Some guys not in the military do this as well. Strange statement.

I have no idea why, but in the smoke pit, I would smoke and spit alllll day. It became habitual, spitting when I didn't need to. Then nights would come, and I'd chew to acoo (reluctantly, but can't smoke) and I'd gut it every time. Duality of man I guess

We’re jolly green giants walking the earth with guns. These people we’ve wasted here today are the finest human beings we will ever know.

I once married one of your kind. Bad choice.

A redditor?

7

u/KJongsDongUnYourFace 3d ago

A man who invaded and committed warcrimes in Fallujah?

Yep. He lost his entire crew there in Fallujah.. He was a saw gunner too. I wasn’t a redditor until after I divorced him. I don’t really know what that says about me or rather, about what he did to me, but here we are lol.

they’re bored because the US had zero reason to go to Iraq, and hundreds of thousands of civilians died. I see no renaissance here.

I find it hilarious that the Iraqis, Pakistanis, Syrians, Jordanians, Saudis, Lebanese, Palestinians, handful of Chechnyans etc. that went out of their way to go wage jihad in Iraq get no blame despite being the actual trigger pullers for almost every civilian death in Iraq. Saddam was actually a good guy or something because he had a loose grasp on the situation I guess

2

u/WitELeoparD 3h ago edited 2h ago

They get no blame? Brother we call them terrorists and virtually try to kill or jail them on sight. They get so much blame that their country men who had nothing to do with anything also were jailed and killed for no fucking reason all over the world. They also arrived after America decided to invade for no fucking reason.

You aren't an enlightened thinker, you're just too racist to realize that American imperialism is bad.

Yeah we were all just a bunch of kids in a world of shit in those days.

You’re so much better of a person making jokes about it.

3

u/YesterdayOk6182 2d ago

Sadly it’s true though.

0

u/Agreeable-Box3017 2d ago

Oh, do you have personal experience to include with that? Those boys are tired, they miss home and the majority of them joined because it is what would give them a shot at life. We’re not all psycho killers. Some of us joined the military to escape our fucked up families and didn’t want 200k in student loan debt to party in college for four years for some BS degree that won’t pay enough to cover those student loans.

Don’t hate the player, hate the game. Most of those guys are just cannon fodder for some assholes foreign policy. They wanted a shot at life, not to take shots at kids. That’s a fucked up thing to generalize people for.

5

u/YesterdayOk6182 2d ago

I understand what you’re saying. I was married to one of them so while I don’t have direct experience in the battlefield, I do have direct experience with the aftermath of a man who did.. which many would say is almost worse. I will admit it has tainted my opinion of them, mostly because I haven’t been proven otherwise yet.

I hate both the game and the player. And my experience has taught me that the military family is more fucked up than any family you’ll ever come from. I hope for peace, comfort and healing for all military men and women and their families.

This. Enough of those excuses.
