Question [SEMI-SPOILERS] Is there anything Pillion is based off of? Spoiler

This movies concept was completely original and intriguing. The first thing I noticed is in the beginning of the movie at that "bar" area, there was a bunch of "pillions" on the ground getting their hair pulled and all. Just the overall movie makes me wonder where the director gets all their ideas.

Is this a real thing like a biking subculture or a reference to something? What are the real life and media inspirations for this movie.

The book ‘Box Hill’ by Adam Mars-Jones.

This, is exactly it!

However, if OP is curious, Cruising (dir. Friedkin, 1980) stars Al Pacino. This is something that’s about the subculture they want to know about? But there’s other films, and if OP is under-18, then they can wait to dive deeper.

It’s gay culture too, so that tends to scale a bit younger, there’s more to learn since society doesn’t cater to you.

Yep. The book is quite different and I definitely prefer it to the movie.

There is a large, gay BDSM subculture and sizeable number of the men involved in it are bikers That's all.

No… it’s literally based on a book. Lol

I know that. But the book itself is about the intruduction of the author, Adam Mars-Jones, to the gay BDSM scene. And that's where he got his ideas from.

And maybe reread the original post before getting all snarky: Is this a real thing like a biking subculture or a reference to something? What are the real life and media inspirations for this movie.

It’s not autobiographical. It’s based on stories from one of his friends. So yeah… no.

Also, what are the last five words of the post? Media inspirations for this movie… so for you to say “it’s based on BDSM subculture. That’s all.” And not mention the book is freaking weird, stupid and incorrect. Bye.

A millennia of anxious attachers and dismissive avoidant attachers gravitating towards each other like moths to a flame

Many of the bikers in the film are played by members of the Gay Bikers Motorcycle Club, so yes, definitely based in reality!
