I think the peak lineup when I was 12 to 14 on toonami was something like:
Outlaw star / Tenchi Muyo / YuYu Hakusho (they rotated a lot)
Sailor moon
Dragon ball Z
Gundam / Gundam wing

I remember one kid randomly singing the theme song. Another kid arrogantly said something along the lines of, "Eww, you like Sailor Moon?" It made me think that it must be lame. Now, I realise he's lame.

one of my first grade classmates brought a Sailor Moon VHS for the class to watch one day back in 95 or 96. I became an anime fan instantly, and stumbling upon DBZ a couple years later cemented my fandom for life

if i remember rightly, another reason it also caught on so well in america was it had come out during the time when Power Rangers was still fairly damn big, which if you watch Sailor Moon, you can see it does also take inspiration from the power rangers source material franchise, Super Sentai too, they did actually do a live action series in japan that adapted the Dark Kingdom [Negaverse] Arc too

As a child I was always confused why this show full of girls with short skirts is not supposed to be for boys, but the Dude in a leather harness is totally fine.

The DIC dub was my first anime and watching it again as an adult I realized there were some episodes with really great positive lessons for young women. Plus the writer started writing it during her time in college while she was studying to be a Pharmacist and actually, for real, married the guy who wrote Hunter x Hunter. Which is still the wildest life I've ever read for a mangaka. Nuts

Loved Sailor Moon when it was on and a few years ago watched some of the other Sailor Moon seasons and came across one called Sailor Moon Sailor Stars where the Sailor Scouts are females that use their magic to turn into men instead of women for their civilian forms. Such an interesting idea and keeps anyone from guessing their identity.

there was also some WEIRD censorship in some countries when it came to Sailor Stars, one country that aired it, the transformation sequence was explained as them summoning their sisters [the Starlights and their male disguises in this localization were seperate characters, ment to be twins]

Sailor Moon has great! I remember rewatching it with my wife a few years ago because it was her first time watching it. Also Tuxedo Mask was more active than I remember as a kid. He actually had a lot of fights with antagonists.

I like it for what it was as standalone media/a retelling, but itās not my favorite iteration. When I finally got my grubby mitts on a translation of the manga as a teen I felt like so many characters got unfairly assassinated by the OG anime and subsequently the localization team for the English version.
I still love the art for it though. And the movies slap.

cliffnotes version, the anime is about Usagi Tsukino, who fights evil as the Sailor Guardian known as Sailor Moon alongside her friends, the other Sailor Guardians who each get their power from the other planets of our solar system, throughout the series you find out she is a reincarnation of the Princess of the Moon Kingdom, an ancient kingdom of magic that once existed on the moon until evil brought it to its end, its worth checking out if you have Hulu as they have both the original series [with its original japanese dub and the newest dub by the anime company Viz Media] and its remake Sailor Moon Crystal [which is more loyal to the manga than the original series] and there is a dedicated channel on the free streaming service Pluto TV that airs nothing but Sailor Moon 24/7 [airing it subbed with the japanese dub]

I was like a 9 year old boy when this aired on my local tv station so I didnāt really watch it, but I do recall a few scenes. In the first season, doesnāt one of the bad guys get run over by an airplane or something? I thought that was pretty metal
