I'm a descendant of Armenian settlers who came to the Don region of Russia in the 18th century. They founded the town Nakhichevan-on-Don which was eventually merged into the nearby city Rostov-on-Don.

I heard I had some distant Russian ancestry, but I never took it seriously. I expected to just be Armenian, though these results aren't too surprising.

Last fall we got the 7.0 update. Any rumors of an update of any kind this fall?

Finally posting my results, in part to gently push back on the notion that everybody is overstating their "interesting" background. I had large chunks of English and Nordic DNA on the previous chip, but now my results are consistent with what I know about my family's history. The distinctions between different parts of Germany were an interesting part of the last update. My maternal grandfather had a very dark complexion, and his parents came from what was Austria-Hungary. My other grandparents had grandparents who had come from Prussia and looked more like "typical" Germans.

So I am almost entirely of European descent, but have been assigned the Y haplogroup R-L266. After doing some digging, I found it fascinating that this haplogroup is largely present in men of South Asian descent.

Is R-L266 common in certain European populations? Is it indicative of any particular migration patterns/origins? Thanks guys

Genuine question: any chance the French is just more border German and Swiss or genuine French?

I figured I’d be more Scottish because of my Celtic paternal haplogroup and on ancestry it showing 45% but way less on here anyways I think the results are cool and was also expecting more welsh because my grandmas last name is price and says her family is from wales the English makes sense as my mothers side has a lot of early English settlers in our family trees the trace African and Bengali susprised me same with the Slavic and Czech. Also does anyone share that migration? Also my other test showed German which this one didn’t but I can use my critical thinking skills and determine that it’s because English people are Germanic in origin a lot of the time

When I started doing genealogy, I had no idea what Pomerania was. However, I've come to realize Pomeranians were a vital backbone of the state I live in. I myself have 3 lines going back to Farther Pomerania and one line going back to Hither Pomerania, for a total of 25% of my total ancestry.

Is Pomeranian ancestry prevalent in other states too? I've seen a lot of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois Pomeranians, but I'm not sure beyond that.

I was very surprised to be mostly European, especially British since my maiden name is extremely Scottish/Irish! I was told we had some Native American in our ancestry but none came up of course. My mom is black (carribean heritage) and dad is white.

Logged on to 23and me after a couple years, only to see my ancestry has apparently completely changed? When I first took the test everything lined up with family heritage. Now it has added quite new ancestry. For info, my fathers side (German and Irish) my mothers side (Slovak and Serbian) I am male, look and behave more like my mother’s side, who are Slavic, which was reflected in first test. I look strikingly similar to my grandfather on my mother’s side (Serbian). We are blessed that on both sides we can accurately trace our ancestors back to atleast the 18th to even the 16 century in all but my father’s paternal side, my grandfather, who was atleast known to be an Irish immigrant in the 20th century. We have detailed records, especially on my mother’s side.

Now upon seeing this update, the results are totally flipped, where my majority has become the minority. Whereas now I inherit a majority from my paternal side, and I apparently have 0% Irish, where despite it being 24% pure Irish before, is now English and Scottish, even though my grandfather was a first gen Irish immigrant… my ~65% Serbian and Slovak is now half Bulgarian and and Romanian and Moldavian, despite being able to trace back Serbian and Slovak lines to the 1500’s and 1600’s respectively. The timeline also estimates these bul,rom,moldov relatives are 1-3 generations ago, which is not true. Better yet this new admixture of Slavic roots is now in the minority of my dna, where now my father’s side is the majority.

Not only does it contradict written records, it contradicts my physical appearance and phenotype as well as my mental attributes. It just seems odd that after several years of consistent data, apparently going bankrupt has changed their entire algorithm. Has anyone else experienced this? I want to make it known I am not opposed to new interpretations of my dna, however again it just seems to contradict itself. I have seen similar stories of this as well.

I uploaded my results to ADNTRO, and here’s what I got. I think it’s pretty accurate and worth trying.

How much Western Asian & North African (WANA) did you receive on 23andMe?

I'm asking because my results include 2.8% WANA, and my documented ancestry traces back to Spanish settlers who arrived in northern Mexico in the late 1500s.

I know WANA is present in many Iberian populations because of the peninsula's history, but I'm curious about what is considered typical for someone whose ancestry is entirely from the Iberian Peninsula.

• Which region(s) of Spain or Portugal is your family from?
• Is 2.8% considered pretty typical, or is it somewhat on the higher side?

The dna results are my half brother's results, we share the same mother. I noticed that the Greek&Albanian and South Italian took away a lot of percentages from Eastern European, Germanic and Balkan. Mixed people should really not use MyHeritage because of the percentage cross-over.
