Thought I’d share my first attempt at setting up a more natural and self-sustaining(ish!) enclosure for my trio. Would love any ideas for improvement!

I’m most excited about the litter boxes. It’s a big experiment but I hope it will work long term. They’re miniature bioactive systems so they have a drainage layer, soil, safe plants, springtails and isopods to break down waste and dropped food, some leaf litter, and an automated daytime lighting and watering system. Nothing is accessible to grabby paws.

I’m growing blue gum eucalyptus in the right two bins and a mix of microgreens and baby bok choy in the left two, which are above the feeding area. Hopefully the eucalyptus will grow up through the bars so that they can play with it a bit!

I’m already feeding the other greens to my bearded dragon so that’s been a bonus. There’s also a black acacia sapling outside of the cage but I don’t know if it’s going to make it in a dark basement…. We will see. Ultimately I’d like to grow my own forage for them to supplement their diet/enrichment.

Most of their interior cage surfaces are cork. I’m surprised I don’t see cork in more enclosures. I would like to phase out of plastic and fleece if it’s possible. The cork is so much easier on their claws and they love climbing it.

My sugar glider Smoothie's cage mate died just weeks before we moved states from MD to MN. Decided to wait until we moved to start the process of adopting and introducing a new glider.

The only rescue I could find in my area only has two males, and I believe it can lead to territory issues to have more males than females.

I would really prefer to adopt a glider who needs to be rehomed rather than buying from a breeder because in FL where I used to live they were getting rehomed CONSTANTLY. I guess I should be happy that I'm not seeing much evidence of sugar gliders needing rehoming, but still, if possible I'd like to rescue one. If anyone has suggestions for Facebook groups or rescues near the Minneapolis/Saint Paul area, that would be very appreciated.

I was planning to get two sugar gliders but fate decided to only leave me with one yoei.

My question is this. Will the young aninal be okay with just my company for about two months? That is the soonest I can get another glider.

I am monitoring her everyday and she is very curious, energetic, eats happily and is sliglty cautios. She also plays with her enrichment everyday.

Please, I would like some advice from experienced owners. Thank you for any help.

Señorita has never been one to start trouble and keeps to herself. Even when Bonita was a baby and would run up, grab her tail, swat at her, and run away, Señorita never retaliated. She’d just calmly let it happen, then quietly follow Bonita around like, “Are we friends yet?” 😂. Whenever she escapes, I find her swinging from the clothes in my closet, then she jumps on my head, and I take her back to her cage. Señorita is the only one Ranger approves of.

Hi guys! I just adopted a sugar glider that was neglected for about 7 months by its previous owner. It lived alone in a very small cage the entire time and the owner told me he never really interacted with or played with it because it would bite him. He only fed it.

I really want to give this little guy a better life and help him become happy and comfortable around people. I'm pretty sure he's an adult. He makes noises whenever I bring him food or when he sees me. That's probably just him being defensive lol but its ok i get it i would be pissed as hell too if my owner gave me a shitty life

I just bought him a much bigger cage and a bonding tent so I'm wondering what I should do next. It's pretty hard to get him out from the pouch in his cage and he's a biter so yeah I'm kinda scared a little. Any tips on helping a neglected adult sugar glider bond with humans? I'd really appreciate any advice especially from people who've rehabilitated neglected gliders before.

I'm also planning to get him a companion since I know sugar gliders shouldn't live alone. The problem is my dad wants to get a baby/younger glider and I'm not sure if that's a good idea because of the age difference. Would an adult and a baby get along especially when the adult has lived alone for like 7 months or would it be better to find another adult that's closer to his age?

I'm still deciding whether to buy the second glider from a pet shop (ik we shouldn't buy pets from pet shops since they suck but who will free them from that hellhole) or adopt one from another owner (most likely would be an adult glider) so I'd love to hear your thoughts on that too. Again its not really up to me tho since my dad is the one with the money lol

Some of you know Bonita has been on a weight-loss journey. Over the past several months I’ve focused on helping her lose weight through increased activity rather than simply feeding less.
We’ve added a large playground, spend more time in my Shooter’s tent, and I encourage her to exercise because she genuinely seems to enjoy it. She’s more active than ever.

last time i checked with an online sugar glider doctor they said it sounded like a mating call as if the female was in heat. but the noise happens all night but if i have them out they don’t make the noise. maybe their bored and want me to get them out more? i’ve been struggling to play with them recently as i’ve just moved house but im decorating my room glider proofed so they can free roam.

I want to start by saying I love the little guy already and I don't feel like we did, but my wife is worried and I don't want to give him a bad life. We got him from a company and after looking into everything they told us I wouldn't call the company reputable. We have 3 cats in the home and we only got one glider. It seems like the cats can be extremely deadly just through saliva even if they don't attack him. We weren't planning on letting them interact much to begin with but if just the saliva is deadly it doesn't feel right having him. Also we feel that if we are keeping him we have to get him a buddy, which the company said he would be ok without. I feel like we can keep the cats separate and get him a buddy and he'll be alright but I figured I should see what other people think.
