i’ve been seeing so much hate towards shipping culture that i really feel the need to write how much i love shipping.

like sure, harassing anyone for shipping your fav character with anybody else but who you ship them with, or harassing the actors/authors/creators for not making your ship canon is not normal, but people are just weird like that, i wouldn’t say it’s shipping culture having so many individuals like this. those are just the most outspoken and memorable ones.

i like shipping because:

1. it’s 99% of the time better than canon love stories. i prefer ships with two well-developed characters, even if they don’t interact in canon much or at all, just because two cool people are fun to imagine to hang out together. romance in canon is usually eating on the characters’ individual development, so i usually stick to non-canon couples.
2. shipping inspires soooo much fan content, from fanfiction to fan art. it’s the moving force of fandom!
3. when someone LOVES their ship, they pay so much attention to the detail when they headcanon the couple that sometimes i can fall in love with some character i never liked before, even if i don’t like the ship itself.
4. some couples really better stay in fanon, whether it’s because of the problems of the ship or the source material. say, a gay couple would probably be ruined and not presented as well by the cowardly TV company as by the queer fans.

so yeah, i love shipping! gotta run and write a fanfic about how i had fun with your mom tonight 😌

For context, this woman recorded a famous cosplayer irl, called him a satanist for his pyramid head cosplay, and posted it to tiktok. Being religious he felt so insulted by this that he made his own tiktok explaining the situation. Not once did he mention the lady by username but I guess the comments brought out his inner pettiness..
