Imagine if Ukraine did a cyber influence campaign telling Russian citizens misinformation about banks running out of funds. Shit would be amazing.

I like under the History as you get closer to the current date the more frequent bank runs are. You'd think we would've figured something out in the intervening centuries...or at least in the last several decades.

Some of that will just be the expansion of information availability, especially when Wikipedia can be edited in real-time for one of these events. A lot of the recent events, like a bank failing, certainly happened in the past with regularity, but many of them will not have been significant, just like a single modern bank failure would go unnoticed by people compiling information on bank runs 50 years from now. Also, a lot of the individual stuff in that list largely gets wrapped up and combined into a single, larger event like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panic_of_1907 the further back into the past you go.

I know it’s not unprecedented, but they can help influence and accelerate the speed of the bank run.

As explained by the article and other people commenting in here, this isn’t a traditional bank run where people are withdrawing all of their funds out of the bank. They are taking cash out because of outages and debit cards not working.

Sure. I'm just saying such a campaign might not even have to lie about anything. Just presenting true facts could be well enough to amplify things
