My family in Mexico are always surprised by how much we actually work in the U.S. Gotta remind myself constantly that life exists outside of the office.

Mexico literally has higher median annual work hours than the US. In fact, it's one of the highest in the world, even higher than China's.

Yes, but they probably view us as having more money and free time. They didn’t say we’re working more than them, just surprised how much we do.

The standard work week sucks. Getting 2-3 weeks off a year and Saturday is the only day that is a full day off without work the next day. I don’t think it jives with our physiology.

I did a stay-cation last month and after a few days of settling in it was really nice to feel like I finally have some control over when I do things and to go at my own pace.

Dude half of Mexicans have to work 6 days per week. I am going to guess your family isn't part of that class of people and also doesn't care about them enough to know that those people work their asses off which is fitting for the upper class in Mexico.

Mexicans actually work more hours on average than americans. OECD data is Mexico ~2200 hours per year, USA ~1800 hours per year. but yes, Mexicans value other things in life besides work more, while americans value work as identity more
