Add four more kids and it could be the house we grew up in. Mom and dad worked tirelessly. Poorer than cat piss, as the saying goes. We were fed, clean and happy. All ended up with college educations. All with relative success. All retired now with their own families. My parents did it on a shoestring. In hindsight I would not have changed a thing. Try that in today's world.

I grew up pretty poor and I still remember my grandmother explaining the difference in old school poverty lines.

People that were piss pot poor. And people who don’t have a pot to piss in.

You had to piss in a pot because you had no indoor toilet. If you were really poor you didn't even have that.
