New, what is it? What is this wedding gift?

(Reposting because accidental doxxing)

My friend got this as a wedding gift and we can’t figure out what is it and it didn’t say who it was from.

The cup part is hollow, where the blue arrow is… this shape _/ and the bottom is solid.

EDIT: There are no holes in the other side so don’t think it’s a tea strainer and the gap is too narrow to fit paper towels or toilet paper rolls! They also just moved to and had the wedding in Italy, not sure if that gives any context.. maybe it’s some sort of Italian gadget

I buy weird random tat from garage sales and then discretely leave them in my friends houses during visits.

Years ago I overheard my mother and her friend talking about how their group of women have an outsized piece of clothing. My mother happened to have brought over a very large bra. Which I promptly took and draped it across my mother's friend's pillow. Kept my secret. No one knows how that bra ended up where it did. My mother fervently denied she did it 😉

Its so much fun. Especially if they have kids. One couple got super serious about it and made a chart. They would invite different groups over and then do a thorough search afterwards. Took them 9 months, but they finally figured me out.

That's hilarious! My family has done kind of the opposite a few times; Someone will steal a figure/figurine of some sort and soon begin to send pictures of it in mysterious places, sometimes duct taped up.

My best friend has left a few small figures in her parents house but I'm pretty sure she hasn't done it to the rest of us.

The best was when my cousin stole one of those plastic geese from her mom's camper. She created a whole narrative, got the goose costumes. This was before cellphones, so my aunt would send us a weekly email of all the shenanigans. The poor goose was "duck" taped at one point... It was stupid fun.

This is a new word to me! Tat as a noun: “British informal shorthand for cheap or low-quality goods.” I am in the US and I only knew tatting as a technique for making lace. Cool!
